Even if one factors in Lil’ Wayne’s ire at being evicted from the Miami Heat arena during the L.A. Lakers game last week, it is hard to not get turned off by his rant. Was it necessary? Or…was it for real? Or was it a nicely timed publicity stunt?
In an interview with Miami’s 99 JAMZ, the rapper said -
“Let me start off by saying, I don’t apologize for that night, I don’t apologize for being who I am. That’s who I am, this is who I am, and yes I did say those things. Only thing I do want to take back from saying that night is I said ‘F**k LeBron,’ I didn’t mean to say that because me and LeBron we are cool and I’m really cool with his mom and we have a real good relationship, and that’s my homie but it just slipped out. I didn’t mean to say that. Other than that though I don’t take nothing back.”
Lil Wayne has his share of dedicated fans who know a whole lot of things about him – stats, records, relationships, beefs, workout routine, and what not and yet there’s a wealth of information about Lil Weezy that you all are blissfully unaware of. Here are 40 nuggets compiled by Complex.
Like, did you know that -
He went by the names Shrimp Daddy and Baby D before Lil Wayne.
His first album is almost completely curse-free because of his mother’s wishes.
He says that he stopped listening to other artists’ music after Jay-Z’s The Black Album.
His mom encouraged him to have a daughter at 15 because she was lonely while he was on tour with Cash Money.
He admitted to having crabs once, and called it “the worst.”
When his Cash Money contract expired in 2006, he almost signed a new deal with Jay-Z’s Rocafella for a rumored $5 million. He declined because he’s a “loyal dude,” but said it was “very tough.”
He dropped out of school at 14.
Yeah, you read that right, his mom wanted him to become a dad when he was himself a kid. Follow the source link for more such gems.
In continuing with the time-honored tradition that the folks at SOHH have been carrying on, they have for us Kimora Lee Simmons giving her take on who her favorite hip hop stars are.
And the lady obliges us with the names of Lil Wayne at the top followed by Ludacris, Beanie Sigel, Shyne, and Fabolous. It’s nice to see that the lady, a top fashion model knows her way around hip hop. Maybe ex-beau Russell Simmons has something to do with it.
The flow of words, the way how a rapper spits it out, is of paramount significance for the lady; followed by how he goes along with the beat.
No no, not like how you guys are thinking. This is touching. This was when Weezy was having all those seizure attacks.
In Karrine’s own words – “I woke up in the middle of the night and I felt weird. I looked at my phone and had all these missed calls and messages. Some of them were from people that were in Wayne’s camp. My whole body started shaking because I didn’t know what happened yet. I had to go online and read it because no one was getting back to me right away, of course. I [remember] standing in the bathroom reading about him being sick online and me being really scared. I was in the bathroom pacing until I got the text message back from him, and I just started crying. I got one message back from him and he says, ‘Babe, I’m OK.’ Everyday after that we’ve been a little closer. That relationship is everything to me, but it’s not what people think it is. It’s not sexual and it’s not financial. It is very spiritual and he’s like my battery pack. When I’m down, when I’m in a really rough space, he always pulls me out of that and he has no idea what he’s done for me.”
This one comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Lil Wayne is retiring, not immediately but sooner than you’d like him to. The 30 year old A-lister in the world of hiphop has announced that the Carter V will be his last album.
In an interview with MTV, he said “I know y’all want me around for a little bit, [but] Tha Carter V is my last album,” “I’ve been rapping since I was 8 years old; I’m 30 now. That’s a long time, and I like to do so many more things, and when I like to do something, I end up loving to do it real quick. And I love to do something, I’m fully focused on it and it only, and music sometimes is not that ‘it.’”
This iteration of the Carter series comes after I Am Not A Human Being II which releases February 19th, next year. Not much time left, but we wish Weezy all the success and hope that he continues to rake in the moolah in his new ventures and goes where Jay-Z and Dr Dre have gone before him.
Perhaps the heading of this post should’ve focused on the question whether Weezy has ever had seizures; but it seems that Lil Tunechi was indeed taken to hospital for this very reason following the mid-air medical scare; in an interview with MTV, he let slip “Please let them know that I have an air unit, but because of the sound, they don’t want the air on, so it’s super hot in here … I don’t want y’all to think I’m on nothing, man. I’m on seizure medicine. That’s all.”
So, seizures they were and ill-timed ones at that, for they prevented him from deposing before the judge in the Carter trial, he lost the case and the counter-case as well.
Yeah, that’s the classy title this track that features the ever-so-classy Ms Hilton in yet another attempt at music. Why does she even bother? Doesn’t she know that her effort is invariably going to provide mirth to one and all? More importantly, what was Weezy doing here? Making money I guess.
Here are the lyrics he spits out “Last night was awesome / Super f**king awesome / It was me, myself, and I, and her / We had ourselves a foursome.” “Excuse my french, but f**k the cameras / I wanna spend a night in Paris.”
If you like dance tracks on auto-tune, you’ll love this one.
ASAP Rocky chatted up DJ Drama and for a change it wasn’t about music, but about fashion; kinda related and a cool thing to chat about. ASAP dropped the fact that he is dead sure about his sartorial elegance inspiring Kanye West.
But perhaps what was more interesting was what the up-and-coming rapper had to say about Lil Wayne’s dressing sense “I hate the way Lil Wayne dresses sometimes,” “The lime green Ugg boot thing? I didn’t like that but that’s his style. There’s people who probably hate the way I dress – not a lot – but a few people might hate the way I dress. That’s my style. At the end of the day, I’m not judging. They asked me my opinion, how I felt, and all I gave them was my feedback. He’s got way more money than me, way more successful so I can’t say nothing bad about him.”
Over the weekend, Lil Wayne bared his softer side when he tweeted November 16th “I gotta say,I’ve done some pretty amazing things in my time but the BEST thing I’ve ever did is becoming & BEING a father.,”
The last I checked this particular tweet from Tunechi had gotten more than 6K RTs and around 4.6K favorites. Wonder why? A celeb tweets something mushy and gets so much love. Good for the lil one. Was he talking about fathering a child with actress Lauren London? The two are no longer together now, and the child is basically going to grow up in a single-parent environment. None of my business really, but all that twitter love Wayne got had me thinking. Is there a disconnect here between action and speech?
First things first, the said interview airs Sunday morning at 7 a.m. PT on ESPN’s Sunday Countdown Show. And this is what Wayne tweeted yesterday “Yo! I recently got to do 1 of the koolest things ever & that’s interview The Great Randy Moss! have to watch @ESPNNFL #SundayNFLCountdown,”
While Wayne is obviously pleased to chat up the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver; Moss too has let it be known that “I think a lot of people listen to Lil Wayne’s music over the years and for him to be able to take the music industry and mix it with professional sports, I thought it was something both sides wanted to see,” “The music world wanted to see it; the sports world wanted to see it.”
