Review:MGK’s Lace Up

Machine Gun Kelly’s debut album Lace Up has quite a few things going for it. First, it’s a straight from heart album from a guy who proclaims “We too grounded to be Hollywood, man” and we feel like believing him.

The music and lyrics have a level of maturity that leave you feeling good when you are reminded that this is his debut effort. You know this is an artist still trying to find his groove and when he does manage to do so, albeit intermittently, it sounds good.

With Drumma Boy on the synth and help from Wacka Flocka, MGK presents an effort that veers to presenting his psyche to us but fall short because of commercial considerations that have to be kept in mind, for example in the numbers Invincible and All We Have.

Machine Gun Kelly – Lace Up: The Documentary Part 1

Machine Gun Kelly has dropped a video that documents his journey in the making of “Lace up”, his recently released album.

If you’re in the mood for some inspirational viewing then do check out the video as MKG takes the viewer through a ride covering his trials and triumphs in coming out with the album. By the end of it you’ll find rooting for this kid from Cleveland who came up from nowhere to become the next white hope in the big bad world of hip hop. The video is worth watching simply because you get to hear and see the artist talk about his little daughter.

Machine Gun Kelly is all set for the release of his latest album “Lace Up” and features a treat for lovers of cross-genre music. This is how the Ohio native chose to put it – “I actually got one of the greatest metal bands to be featured on it, Avenged Sevenfold,” “It’s definitely an eargasm if you’re into cross genre.”

The metal band features in the introductory track “Save Me” and has Avenged lead vocalist M. Shadows and lead guitarist Synyster Gates performing. Other artists to feature on this album include Bun B, Waka Flocka Flame, Lil Jon, Young Jeezy, Twista, Tech N9ne, Dubo, and DMX.

The artist, known for keeping the indie flag flying, has recently signed a deal with Bad Boy Records. Let’s see where this album takes him and the kind of moolah it can rake for him.
