HIP-HOP TRANSCENDS BOUNDARIES AGAIN AS NEWFEW SIGNS BREAKTHROUGH DEAL WITH PUMA

Breakthrough Hip-Hop act, NEFEW, stamped with an American/Swiss postmark have secured a break through endorsement from sports apparel giant PUMA. The duo, managed by Swiss based company On Our Feet Entertainment consist of Polemikk and PA-Double. Combined, NEFEW take on the coveted role of Opinion Leaders for Urban Lifestyle as they represent PUMA INTERNATIONAL.

The list of athletes and soccer players whom have been tagged with the PUMA brand heralds' icons such as Pele, Diego Maradona and the Italian national soccer team. LA's Stones Throw Records is widely regarded as the standard bearer for creativity in Hip-Hop. As the home for many of the finest MC's and Producers in the art including the likes of Madlib, J-Dilla, Penut Butter Wolf and of course tonight's acts Guilty Simpson and MED they stand out from their competitors through the consistency of their output.

The same can be said of London's No.1 Hip-Hop party providers, The Doctor's Orders. Having enjoyed four and a half years of incredible events throughout the capital, and now further a field with their new Brighton monthly, they were the obvious choice for this event that will be boasting the finest talents from both sides of the pond on the stage and turntables.

Guilty Simpson is part of the incredible music tradition that is the sound of the Motor City, Detroit. The tradition that takes includes The Motown Sound, the punk of The Stooges and the free thinking rock of MC5 is the product of a tough working class city where the sound of industrial machinery seems to feed into a musical creativity unmatched by any other city. Guilty is one of the new school of Detroit MC brought to the fore through their work with the late great production genius of James "J-Dilla" Yancey. Having appeared on his albums for both Stones Throw and BBE Records alike Guilty Simpson has gone on to release the critically acclaimed "Ode To The Ghetto" that has become a classic among fans of underground Hip-Hop and has finished work on the Madlib produced "OJ Simpson" due for release in 2010 that is sure to go the same way. With gritty yet amusing tales of life of the streets that never fall into cliché few paint visual pictures as clearly as Mr Simpson so expect to be transported from South London into his world while he hits the stage with all his force tonight.

MED, formerly known as Medaphoar, is as skilful with words as his name would suggest. The California based MC came to prominence through his work with Madlib in the form on the Madvillany album, with Quasimoto and went on to shine on his 2005 solo LP "Push Come To Shove" which featured incredible productions from the like of Just Blaze, J-Dilla, Oh No and of course Madlib himself. An instant classic with the indie Hip-Hop heads it has been a long wait for his second album coming in 2010 from which he will be performing tracks on the night. Again the majority of the production is handled by Madlib so is sure to be another rough diamond. Having not performed in the UK since 2007 this is a rare appearance that is not to be missed.

Spinning for the live performances and blessing us with a set of his own besides is DJ Dez. As the DJ for Detroit's legendary Slum Village he has travelled the globe rocking crowds as part of a live force that has tragically been torn apart by the deaths of J-Dilla and then Baatin. As a producer in his own right Dez takes on the name Andres and is responsible for some of the most incredible fusions of Hip-Hop, House, Disco and Soul that have been heard in recent years. With a strong following among underground beat diggers, among whom his releases and mixes trade for substantial sums of money, he is sure to add to this fan base tonight.

Spin Doctor has been doing as much as anyone in the UK to help push what he considers "Real Hip-Hop" to the masses over the years and will continue to do so tonight as he treats what is sure to be a packed house to his trademark blend of Soul drenched leftfield bangers and classic boom bap. Joining him on the decks will be one of the most creative men to have come out of the darkness of their own studio in recent years Paul White. With his follow up to the incredible "Strange Dreams of Paul White" due to be releases on Stones Throw's sister label Now-Again in 2010 he is certainly a name to look out for in the new year and will be warming up the party with a sonic journey through the huge range of music to have influenced him thus far.

Room 2 of this beautifully refurbished South London venue will be hosted by Livin' Proof. Their team of residents; DJ Rags, DJ Snips, Khalil & Budgie will be playing the platters that has seen them build a regular and dedicated crowd for their monthly free party at Market Place.

Sportn' Life Records signed Fatal Lucciauno as their second act, releasing his debut album, "The Only Forgotten Son" in 2007.  Fatal has a smooth, rugged sound, like Tupac.  He's been writing poetry since he was 8-years old, he values history and is also a credible voice of the street. From being homeless as a kid to hustling the streets of the Central District as a teen, he's seen it all. Fatal's music takes you through the many challenges he's overcome, making it a powerful expression of tenacity and courage. SoulBrew are ecstatic to also welcome Ashley Beedle to one of their parties for the first time. Having cut his teeth as a DJ in the early 80's spinning Disco & House his background in sound systems have infused him with a passion for everything from Reggae & Soul to Techno & Jazz, he will be encouraged to explore all of this influences on the night. His first production work as the Black Science Orchestra re-worked classic Disco into House and quickly became a favorite of Frankie Knuckles and Masters At Work. Both as part of X-Press 2 and on his own Ashley has topped charts around the world and remixed tracks by a diverse array of artists including Elton John's "Are You Ready For Love", Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up" & Lilley Allen's "LDN". Always keen to collaborate Ashley has worked under various guises including Disco Evangelists alongside David Holmes, Ballistic Brothers, Roots Revolution Jamayka Boys (championed by many as the first Dubstep production) to name a few. His diverse style is influenced by the melting pot that is his beloved hometown of London so he is happy to be playing for an open minded home crowd on this special night.

VH1 - Diddy Cast LA Launch Party - November 16th

November 11, 2009 - Hollywood South Productions is thrilled to announce that the new cast of Vh1's hit reality show, "I Want To Work For Diddy", will be holding it's own LA launch party in an exclusive Beverly Hills location, to celebrate the launch of the new season and the return of Season 1's breakout star, Poprah!

Already the new season has sparked quite a mania amongst reality fans around the country with Diddy himself leading the way via his frequent and often intense interaction with the hopeful contestants, all fighting tooth and nail for the coveted position as his new "personal assistant".  The cast is just as diverse as the last season, but there is quite a twist in the story line.  As if the challenges they face to prove their worthiness to work for the icon under constant scrutiny, pressure and sleepless nights, is not already difficult enough, this time they'll also have to deal with the return of reality's favorite villain. Poprah, who has was actually nominated last month by Fox Reality for favorite reality villain via her role on Season 1, has been commanded by Diddy himself to return the competition as a mole, and to be his eyes in ears in the competition, unbeknownst to the other contestants who think she's returned just to give them hell and some serious competition for the job!

Already the drama has begun, and sneak peak's from next week's episode make it pretty obvious fans have only seen the tip of the iceberg. Recent spikes in activity on social networks "twitter" and "facebook" clearly shows that reality fans around the globe are ecstatic and anticipate that this will be the best season yet!

Cast members are already slated for the event and are flying from around the country to attend the LA launch, amongst many other celebrity invites, and media outlets. Word has it, that the event will also be hosted by Poprah, of Season 1 & 2, who was formerly an international recording artist on BMG, has just recorded a new single inspired by her experience on the show and will feature some of the show's most popular cast members.  So just as she's donned herself the hybrid of P. Diddy and Oprah, Poprah, she's now created the ultimate event hybrid, video shoot meets launch party. "That would be a "Vaunch Party", she exclaims! Hey, maybe in this economy, that may not be a bad idea.

Music is a burst of choices. Not only what note to play when and with what instrument, but whether to play a note at all. Salvador Santana, the 26-year-old keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter with strong Bay Area roots, knows what it means to navigate the infinite options of music. His 2008 project with the Salvador Santana Band--simply called SSB--pursued the scope of his ability. But for Santana, it wasn't enough. He has no choice but to push himself further.  Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut "Keyboard City" around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana's writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. The legendary founder of the Wu-Tang Clan rallied support around the album by featuring himself on remix of the title track "Keyboard City" earlier this fall. The long anticipated debut hits the streets in February of 2010 followed by extensive touring with his keyboard-laden band featuring a three-person keyboard assault with Santana at the head.
 
Money Mark inspired Santana in a beautiful way during the creation process. "With all the people I've ever collaborated with or just working by myself, I have never produced so many ideas into songs as I have during these Money Mark sessions. That guy is just a machine," said Santana.
 
Money Mark opened up a new way of recording that was previously unknown to Santana. "He has mentored me by showing me that it's cool to be all over the pace. It's cool to sit there and work on a song, then out of nowhere, interrupt that flow and work on another idea. To just go with it.", Santana elaborates.
 
Santana is pushed by a need to step out of his comfort zone in a quest for new ideas. Easy going and humble, Santana exudes the Bay Area vibe. He began playing the drums at age three--sitting on his father's lap, controlling the snare and tom, as his father worked the hi-hat and kick drum--but his true love was discovered when he began taking piano lessons when he was six. Later, he studied at San Francisco's heralded School of the Arts before attending Cal Arts in Valencia, CA. His education, passion and lineage has turned Santana into a monster on the keys, leading him to say that he's "a musician first, a vocalist second and a performer second-and-a-half."
 
Music truly thrives in his veins. His maternal grandfather was blues pioneer Saunders King and his paternal grandfather was the internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. And, of course, his father is 10X Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana...who's also a frequent collaborator (Salvador co-wrote "El Farol" from 1999's smash album Supernatural).
 
But with his upcoming solo project, Salvador Santana will truly become a brand of his own.
 
"With the Salvador Santana Band record I was very passive and insecure, only because I wasn't listening to my gut, allowing my second opinions to get to me. Knowing what I know now, I could have played that part better. I don't ever want to have that feeling ever again."
 
In addition to his musical desires, Santana has worldly efforts on his mind. After a trip to South Africa and inspiring work with Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), something triggered inside of Santana to make sure his music wasn't only about personal glory. Once the record is released and he begins touring the project, Salvador will be posting various non-profit organizations on his website that will receive a percentage of the profits. "I want to use music in a positive way, and give back to people in need. There can never be enough people who do that." And there can never be enough musicians pushing their art to the brink.

Manifest Challenges Artistes to Unite For The Cause During Hip Hop History Month

Nassau, The Bahamas… With November 12 marking the 35th anniversary of Hip Hop, the founder of the Bahamas Hip Hop Fest and multi-award winning artiste, Manifest, is challenging all persons affiliated with the genre to join The Cause and create a positive sound and image worthy for youngsters to emulate.
"Once upon a time, people expressed themselves without cussing and calling each other derogatory names," he said during a statement that was released worldwide. "Nowadays, men greet each other with what once considered taboo or offensive – calling each other the 'n' word and dog and stuff. Women tell you straight up they are the baddest 'b' word and try to see who can have the baddest boyfriend or baby daddy and allow themselves to be showcased like meat because of what they see in music videos."

Manifest, born Lavard Parks, says that in the decade that he's been an artist, producer and CEO of his label Dunamus Soundz, he has only released work that can be played in front of anyone anywhere, because he knows that long after he is gone, his legacy will be remembered.

"If I die tonight, my baby Jojo will be able to put in my albums and hear clean music that expresses tough times, good times, positive vibes and a focused mentality," he said. "He will pick up any magazine and see his dad without drugs and liquor and want to live up to that standard. We in the hip hop industry have failed the generation that followed us and grew up on our music. We want to get respect when we don't respect ourselves. Instead of talking dirty about somebody's mother, sister and daughter, we strip her down and spit out lyrics about what kind of you know what she is. How do we expect kids to respect the law when we are singing about shooting cops, smoking, throwing back forties and such? How do expect people to respect themselves when we keep telling them that cars, cash, sex and drugs is the way to go. You can't blame people who dress and listen to hip hop to be boxed as a trouble maker or have a red flag in the air when they come into stores. They expect what we've been delivering through the media without apologies."

According to Manifest, as celebrations to mark Hip Hop history month erupt globally, The Cause is a challenge that focuses on reclaiming the generation of  disillusioned hip hoppers who are conforming to a lifestyle portrayed in mainstream media as the 'hip hop way of life'.

"Smoking, drinking 40's, gun toting, stripping and promiscuity, cars, cash, overconfident men, under-confident women and this blatant disrespect for the law of the land and the law of God is not hip hop," says Manifest. "We need to put an end to all of this negativity and stereotype associated with hip hop and start providing these lost kids with a serious dose of hip hope. With The Cause, we challenge all artists – music, graphic, writers, etc – to create at least one positive piece or song in any upcoming project. We will have a unified logo to say that they supported the cause and we are going to the top to endorse such products.
