Review:MGK’s Lace Up

Machine Gun Kelly’s debut album Lace Up has quite a few things going for it. First, it’s a straight from heart album from a guy who proclaims “We too grounded to be Hollywood, man” and we feel like believing him.

The music and lyrics have a level of maturity that leave you feeling good when you are reminded that this is his debut effort. You know this is an artist still trying to find his groove and when he does manage to do so, albeit intermittently, it sounds good.

With Drumma Boy on the synth and help from Wacka Flocka, MGK presents an effort that veers to presenting his psyche to us but fall short because of commercial considerations that have to be kept in mind, for example in the numbers Invincible and All We Have.

Propaganda – “Excellent”

ARTIST: Propaganda
ALBUM: Excellent
STREET: 9/25/2012
FORMAT: Album
GENRE: Hip Hop | Rap | Inspirational

Sonically, this strings driven album displays very unique blend of backwoods blues with some California sunshine that is very hard to categorize. With production solely carried by Beautiful Eulogy (Courtland Urbano, Braille and Odd Thomas) the listener is treated to more than tracks, but musical movements that are almost orchestral. Like his previous release, Prop continues to display his versatility, seamlessly switching between rap and spoken word poetry. However, unlike Props previous releases, there is not 1 sample on this record. All the guitars, vocals and keys were all made from scratch by Beautiful Eulogy. EXCELLENT is strong drums, street level lyricism fused with philosophical poetry.

Long.Live.A$AP Debut To Miss Halloween Deadline

Asap Rocky’s album Long.Live.A$AP’s debut will in all probability miss the Halloween deadline. This was disclosed by the rapper in an interview on the sidelines during the VMA function.

Asap said “A year ago if I would’ve told people I’m gonna make you wait a year to drop my [album], they probably would’ve been pissed, now that the time has come I think everybody’s gonna be happy with it.” “I really feel good about this, I really feel deeply good about this, because I put my all into it, and it’s a different aspect of me,” he said. “It’s just showing my capabilities and how much of an artist I really am — not just a rapper.”

Looks like, the “Goldie” rapper’s project will see the light of day only later this fall.

Video – Slaughterhouse “Throw It Away” Featuring Swiss Beatz

The video “Throw it away” by Slaughterhouse features Swiss Beatz and Eminem; the single is a part of the album welcome to: OUR HOUSE from the Shady Records stable. It is the first time that the Slaughterhouse quartet of Royce da 5’9”, Joell Ortiz, Crooked l and Joe Budden have come together to worth with Shady records.

Here’s a bit of trivia for lovers of authenticity; the video for this number has been shot in a slaughterhouse, it has been directed by Syndrome. Eminem makes an appearance at the end of the video. Em has also served as Executive Producer of this album.

This is what Budden had to say about it “I think all of us have been around long enough and are humble enough to know the appropriate time to be a sponge, and this entire process, all of us have done nothing but that, as well as sponging off each other,”
