Sugar Hill Music has brought a copyright infringement lawsuit against rap trio Naughty by Nature and their and their publishing company Warner-Chappel Music over the trio’s rap number “Uptown Anthem” or more specifically its hook “We Gonna”, it has attracted Sugar Hill’s ire which regards it as a flagrant copyright violation. How? Is that possible? Getting sued for using the phrase “We Gonna”!
The song dates back to 1991 and is the group’s most noted hit. It now attracts attention for damages “sustainedĀ as a consequence of defendants infringement of plaintiffs copyright and to account for and pay to plaintiff all gains, profits and advantages derived by defendants from such infringement of plaintiffs copyright.”
