Chris Brown – I Apologize, I’m Not Homophobic

Chris Brown tells TMZ he’s sorry for going off on Raz B yesterday on Twitter, and making crass sexual references that many say were homophobic.

Brown tells TMZ, “Yesterday was an unfortunate lack in judgment sparked by public Twitter attacks from Raz B, who was bent on getting attention.  Words cannot begin to express how sorry and frustrated I am over what transpired publicly on Twitter.”

Brown goes on, “I have learned over the past few years to not condone or represent acts of violence against anyone.  Molestation and victims of such acts are not to be taken lightly; and for my comments I apologize — from the bottom of my heart.”

Brown ends his apology with this:  “I love all of my fans, gay and straight. I have friends from all walks of life and I am committed, with God’s help, to continue becoming a better person.”

G.U.N.S. (Goons United by the New School) – They Cypher (Prod by Jahlil Beats)

Southern swag, with a lyrical twist reminiscent of the Northeast, it’s  “The New Era”. South Florida based rap group Goons United by the New School, is blasting away the stigma that all young Southern rappers only make dance songs. Representing the new generation of rap listeners and heavily equipped with talent, the only shots being fired by the dynamic quartet are lyrical bullets.

Their music is diverse; catering to the ladies, the teenagers and adults. If you ask Young A.C., T-Stunna, Pebo Florida, and Jay Balla, they’ll tell you, “we see ourselves as one of the best rap groups in hip-hop right now.” It’s time for new energy and the members of Goons United by the New School are on a mission to “revitalize the game.” Their music is a representation of their struggle, a reality they know as life growing up in the streets of “Deepside” Broward County.

Riding the wave of constant evolution that is Hip-Hop, while “taking it back to when lyrics were respected” and paying homage to their predecessors in the rap game. Influenced by rappers Young Jeezy, Plies, Soulja Slim and Outkast their distinctively South Florida rhyming style with a lyrical twist that’s so Northeast makes them a blast from the past with the swag of the new school.

Young A.C., of Pompano Beach, FL got his start in music in the 5th grade. “I’ve always liked music from rap to country and just about everything in between”. His appreciation for music led him to write his first song, which he performed, for his peers in the school cafeteria. Young A.C. immediately went from the school cafeteria to the recording booth; from recording booths to touring with well known South Florida MC’s like J.T.Money, Trick Daddy, Jacki-O and Trina.

Like Young A.C., Jay Balla, of Fort Lauderdale, FL also had a young start. His first solo single ‘Swang’ played on underground radio stations throughout Broward County. It wasn’t long before his name buzzed through the streets of South Florida. By a chance meeting at an event, Young A.C. and Jay Balla realized their talent together could shake up the industry.

T-Stunna, of Lauderhill, FL remembers receiving his first karaoke tape player at the age of four during Christmas. T-Stunna would play his favorite tapes for hours and make childhood rhymes.  From the four-year-old imitating rappers with his Karaoke machine to winning rap battles after school on the stoop of his grandmother’s porch, it wasn’t long before he and his peers realized Jay Balla’s talent for rhyming.

Pebo-Florida, of Lauderhill, FL was born and raised in the South but credits a lot of his rhyming skills to the influences of a lot of East Coast artists. Pebo-Florida gained his love for music watching others participate in battles. He finally took a chance and battled none other than Young A.C., after the match up they both realized they complimented each other, Young A.C. respected his tenacity and a friendship was built.

All united by their talent and love for making music, Young A.C. T-Stunna, Pebo-Florida and Jay Balla are Goons United by the New School.

Lil B The Based God Signs to Amalgam, Preps New Albums

After a year of leveraging his social networking platforms releasing highly controversial statements from his twitter account; threatening both Kanye West and comedian Lil Duval with rape; calling himself a “pretty b*tch”; starting and ending a dispute with Joe Budden; as well as flooding his fans with wide range of his “rare” music as free downloads via Hulkshare; and utilizing YouTube to unleash a massive influx of home grown videos such as “Looks Like Jesus”, “The Pretty B**ch is Back”, “Paris Hilton”, and “Ellen Degeneres”; it should come as no surprise that the self proclaimed Based God, Lil B takes his internet social savvy and signs to the pioneering new media outfit, Amalgam Digital. The rising entertainment company comprised of a destination site, major label roster, and distribution powerhouse is most known for launching Hip Hop’s first genre specific digital store, also serving as an open platform for all independent artists. In a short period of time, the company has dominated the independent sector showcasing it’s unique brand of artist development and has become a launching pad and label home to acts such as Joe Budden, Max B, Young Riot, Curren$y, Saigon, Peedi Crakk, Dj Benzi and many more.

Now that the ink is dry, Lil B The Based God will be releasing his first official digital-only solo album “Angels Exodus” on January, 18th 2010 as a prelude to his forthcoming “Glass Face” album, both on Amalgam Digital, which will handle the marketing and worldwide distribution of these releases exclusively.

Lil B’s albums will be made exclusively in the digital-only format and available at the www.AmalgamDigital.com online store. Regarding the nature of the releases and his relationship with his new label, Lil B made the following statement:

“This is Lil B. Shout outs to Amalgam Digital, they been ahead of this for a while. We are putting out these two albums called Angels Exodus and then Glass Face. It’s  going to be historical works of art with these albums. On Angels Exodus it’s going to be real hiphop and sticking to the script. I’ll be going far outside of the boundaries and staying far away from the script too. The Glass Face album will live up to it’s name. These albums are something everyone will understand. They are the reason why I’m 10’ tall and everyone else is just 6’7’’…no diss. You know I love everybody” – Lil B The Based God

Lil B is widely recognized for his association as 1/4th member of The Pack, a rap group that was instrumental in ushering in the Bay Area’s “Hyphy” movement and most known for their hit song “Vans”. At the age of 19, Lil B was the first rapper to author a book, titled “Taking Over” which demonstrates his positive philosophy of “anything is possible”.

With the new media revolution in full force, and the backing of the digital music space innovators Amalgam Digital, Lil B is now poised to deliver his music and message to both the long time fans as well as the first time listener. KnightPKF – Young G

The record entitled “Young G” by KnightPKF, Ice T’s newest artist, brings hip hop back to its original standing where artists used their lyrical talent to convey the realness of situations they’ve been through, situations that numerous listeners can relate to. In the song itself, KnightPKF states “rappers want to talk about model after model, they don’t talk about their mothers drinking bottle after bottle,” referring to the stereotypical songs we may hear today. This is what sets KnightPKF apart from upcoming rappers — he doesn’t fit the stereotype that we’re used to hearing on the radio or seeing on television. In the video for “Young G” you can see that KnightPKF is passionate not only about music and making a way for himself, but he’s passionate to pave a road for everyone to gain a different perspective and mindset about life and making a way for themselves as well. With the raw and real lyrical content of this record, there’s no denying that KnightPKF is a Young G who is striving to make things better all around him.

Song By Cash Money Inspires New Anthem To Encourage Reading

When Shadow Play Entertainment President Cyrus Webb began looking for a theme song to promote its literacy campaign for 2011, he didn’t have to go any further than two of his friends that shared his passion for encouraging reading: Herschel Dixon of Louisville, KY and Chris Ervin aka Dj Down South of Raleigh, MS.

“As a father, Herschel has made books a large part of his daughters’ lives,” says Webb, 35. “He came to me with the idea to rewrite Cash Money’s popular song “Get Your Roll On” to promote reading among young people as part of our Hip Hop and Books Campaign. It made perfect sense, and from there we got together and wrote the song. The only thing left to do was get someone to record it.”

Choosing Dj Down South was a no-brainer for Webb. “Down South had been a part of our Hip Hop and Books literacy campaign since I co-founded it in 2008 with Platinum-selling recording artist and bestselling author Corey “C-Murder” Miller in 2008,” says Webb. “He saw what we were trying to do, and the rest is history.”

The song “Get Your Read On” will be used as the theme for not just the Hip Hop and Books campaign but Webb’s entire initiative to encourage reading among all age groups and backgrounds. “We have to do whatever it takes to get people enjoying books again,” says Webb. “This song is just one part of my plan to do that in 2011. I am already working on a video for Youtube featuring the song, and we are gathering an impressive body of influential individuals together to promote reading’s importance as well.”

Celebrities that have already joined the campaign include actress/director/author Cherie Johnson (Punky Brewster/Family Matters), actor/author/recording artist Tray Chaney (HBO’s The Wire), Vanessa and Angela Simmons (Pastry), recording artists Fizz and Booz and many more.

“Get Your Read On” is available for free download at www.esnips.com/web/getyourreadon. Webb hopes that people will share the song and use it as a catalyst to make books a part of their daily lives.
