UNKNOWN BAND STORMS ITUNES TOP 10 BASED ON…MUSIC!?

The Band Eclypse – Eight-Member Hip-Hop Rock Group – Self-Releases a Surprise Hit

(New York, New York, September 7, 2010) “Ten Past – EP,” the debut, six-song release from New York-based The Band Eclypse, has climbed to #9 on the iTunes Hip Hop/Rap Albums Chart (#119 in overall albums) within 24 hours of its release.  Put out by the band on their own label, the EP sits next to the latest gold- and platinum-selling releases by Jay-Z, Drake, Eminem and The Roots – and no other unknowns.

For the eight-member band of mostly high school-aged players, their unforeseen iTunes chart success is the cherry on top of a very productive summer.  The Band Eclypse beat out 500 other groups to perform on the Break Stage at this May’s Bamboozle festival in New Jersey, as well as playing featured slots at B.O.M.B.Fest and select New York area club dates, including opening for fellow chart-topping rapper Sam Adams and Brooklyn buzz band Shinobi Ninja.  Previously they won two rounds at The Apollo’s Amateur Night – becoming one of the first multi-racial bands to do so.

The band has earned their success the old fashioned way – writing great, hook-filled, passionate songs and putting on energetic, ecstatic performances – no label support or glitzy “co-signs” to their credit.  In fact, no actual marketing effort to date.   They’ve won over fans one by one based on the strength of their live performances.  Their adoption of social media and constant dialogue with their ever-expanding fanbase has played a key role in their evolution.  They provide their fans a steady stream of remixes and videos straight from their rehearsal room.  They have also spread their music to the blogosphere and online radio world, appearing on acclaimed internet radio program The Gunz Show to debut their recordings.
