Just a few months ago Rockie Fresh was scribbling rhymes and songs in his notebook with no outlet, but he decided to stop the dreaming and make it happen. Through friendships and favors, he hustled studio time to record his tracks. The resulting debut mixtape Rockie's Modern Life launched this young Chicago hip-hop artist onto the music scene. In the two months since his debut, Rockie has established himself as an up-and-coming MC, garnering press attention from outlets such as NME, illRoots, Fake Shore Drive, Chicago Reader, and Chicago Now. Rockie has continued to grow his reputation by exciting crowds with his live show, including sharing the stage with notable artists such as Big Sean and The Cool Kids.
Speaking of his motivation, Rockie said that he wants to share his music with the world and "encourage people to be comfortable with the way they are." Rapping about what he knows, Rockie hopes listeners will hear their own lives in his songs—rare when compared to the oft-portrayed world of glitz, glamour, and spectacle. Looking forward, he wants to "go as far as his rhymes will take him, hopefully, all the way to the top."
Next up, Rockie is headed to Austin, TX to perform during the SXSW Music Conference. Rockie Fresh will be showcasing alongside The Cool Kids, 9th Wonder, Pac Div, G.O.O.D. Music recording artists GLC and Really Doe, and XXL 2010 Freshmen Donnis, Pill, and Freddie Gibbs. Current schedule of Rockie's appearances:
