New Advertising Blog Looks at the Winners and Losers in Search of the Hip-Hop Audience
March 8th 2010, San Jose, CA- Award winning journalist and author Adisa Banjoko is proud to formally announce the launch of a new blog: www.beyondurbanbranding.blogspot.com.
Beyond Urban Branding is a blog the critiques ads made by and for the Hip-Hop or "urban" audience. Various brand campaigns will be vetted for cultural authenticity and creativity. Next month the Beyond Urban Branding will begin interviewing various cultural and industry leaders. Insights on their approach to staying in tune with urban trends and compelling messaging strategies and tactics will be outlined. Additionally, a continuous discussion about exactly who and what the nebulous "Hip-Hop/urban demographic" is will take place. "Before spending a ton of money on a campaign" said Banjoko "take a few minutes to see the silly mistakes many brands are making that waste money and time. More importantly, you can get a good look wasted opportunities that they can't get back. We'll be talking everything from soda, gaming, MMA, shoes, phones, technology and food. It will all be there."
Adisa Banjoko is an award winning journalist for The Source, Maxim, Yoga Journal and VIBE who went onto do PR and marketing consulting for various rap artists, DJ's and software companies. He has spoken on various panels regarding urban youth trends and the hit and miss tactics companies use to attract them.
"For years my wife and I would talk in the car or on the phone about ads that we love and others that we hated" stated Banjoko. "Over lunch one day she said 'Why don't you just write about that'?" I played with the idea, woke up a few weeks ago and just jumped in with both feet. The response to the soft launch has been amazing and I'm happy that so many people are learning what makes an impressive urban ad. I'm already getting emails requests to critique certain ads and its fun to go back and forth with folks on twitter about it. This week we'll be looking at tech ads, so, its just starting to get good."
