Geosocial music service blends Internet radio with location-based apps
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 21, 2010 — Soundtrckr, the first geosocial music application for smartphones, has been nominated for the 2010 Mobile Premier Award in Innovation (http://bit.ly/6xs218). The MPAs are the world's largest competition for mobile sector startups, with international media partners including TechCrunch, Mashable, and Mobile Zeitgeist.
Soundtrckr was recognized for its novel blend of Internet radio, geolocation, and social networking. Built for mobility and immediacy, soundtrckr aims to help users discover new artists and meet new people based on where they are and what they're doing in the present moment. Through its partnership with MediaNet, soundtrckr offers access to the largest streaming music catalog in the world, featuring over 7 million songs from all major and independent labels. Soundtrckr users can create and broadcast radio streams, tune into the streams of friends in real-time, and geo-tag songs to locations for other users to discover. Soundtrckr went live on the web (http://www.soundtrckr.com) and in the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.com/apps/soundtrckr) on December 11, 2009.
"We're honored to be nominated by our peers for such a prestigious award," said soundtrckr Founder and CEO Daniele Calabrese. "With the increasing prominence of mobile and location-aware services, there's been an incredible surge of innovation in the sector. The Mobile World Congress and the Mobile Premier Awards showcase the best of that innovation, and we're very excited to be a part of it."
Nominees for the MPA in Innovation were selected by local chapters of Mobile Monday, a global community of mobile industry professionals. The Awards will be held on February 15 in conjunction with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which over 50,000 people are expected to attend.
