Lupe to Play Go Cheryle for Senate Campaign Concert

Chicago, Illinois, January 14, 2010: Go Cheryle for Senate Campaign Concert featuring Lupe Fiasco Thursday January 28 at 8:00 p.m. at The Shrine Chicago hosted by Leon "The Destined Legend" Rogers with performances by J. Ivy and Lorenzo Owens. Lupe Fiasco will help raise money for Cheryle Jackson's U.S. Senate campaign and to remind people to vote on Tuesday February 2.  

Chicago native Lupe Fiasco gained critical acclaim in 2006 after the great success of his debut album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor.  Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z described him as a "breath of fresh air" and has been called a "hip-hop Generation Next vanguard" by critics.  In 2007 Lupe Fiasco released his second album Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, which includes the hugely popular single "Superstar."  Lupe Fiasco was named to MTV's 2009 "Top 10 Hottest Rapper List" and will release his third album Lasers in 2010. As co-founder of 1st and 15th Entertainment, a record label under Atlantic, Lupe is the current CEO and will be joining other celebrities and activists for an expedition to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro for Summit On The Summit to raise awareness of the billion people worldwide who lack access to clean drinking water.

Host Leon "The Destined Legend" Rogers is A Chicago native Leon started out as an aspiring comedian touring the nations colleges and comedy clubs and was on WGCI-FM 107.5's " The Crazy Howard McGee Morning Show" before becoming one of the current hosts on WGCI's "The Morning Riot."

J. Ivy is a native of Chicago's South Side and quickly gained fame through word of mouth about his performances and was offered a spot on Kanye West's College Dropout.  Since then, J. Ivy has collaborated with such artists as John Legend, Lil Mo, Carl Thomas, and the RZA and has showcased his talent on HBO's Def Poetry Jam three times.  J. Ivy supports the community through regular participation in Chicago Public Schools programs and events and his Dream Big Foundation, which encourages the exploration of careers in the arts.  LIFE After Life, J. Lorenzo Owens started singing Gospel music as a toddler in his Milwaukee church and grew a love of soul music from listening to records at his grandmother's house.  Enrolling in college as a business major, Lorenzo changed majors multiple times before realized that music was his true calling.  After moving to Chicago and working as a waiter during the day and honing is craft at night for a few years, Lorenzo got his break on Oprah Winfrey's Pop Star Challenge where he made it to the finals.  Lorenzo was able to team up with producers Michael J. Powell and Gerey Johnson to record and release his debut album After the Show and has continued as on of the best young voices in soul.

Cheryle Robinson Jackson is running for the Democratic nomination to take over Ronald Burris' current U.S. Senate seat.  Born on Chicago's South Side and growing up in Memphis, Tenn., Cheryle earned a B.A. in design from Northwestern University before starting graduate work at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Memphis. While at the University of Memphis she had to take a break for more than a year due to Grave's disease, a hereditary auto-immune disorder, and like so many, Cheryle had no health insurance before her diagnosis and was forced to fight for the coverage she so badly needed. Cheryle started her career at WKNO in Memphis and moved to National Public Radio (NPR) in Washington D.C. very shortly.  At NPR Cheryle quickly rose to Vice President of Corporate Communications and found her leadership skills. Moving back to Chicago, Cheryle went to work for AMTRAK as Regional Vice President of State and Local Affairs and latter became press secretary to former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich after his inauguration, leaving before the completion of his first term.  Cheryle left to become the President and CEO of the Chicago Urban League where she led the organization to a revitalization and is now ready to serve the people of Illinois in the U.S. Senate.
