ABOUT TOMMY THE CLOWN
Youth mentor and performer Tommy the Clown is known throughout Los Angeles and beyond as the Father of Clowning and Krumping, a freestyle hip-hop dance movement created during the 1990's as a positive, non-violent release of aggression and frustration. His message is simple, to focus and do well in school, to stay away from drugs and gangs, and to instead join peers in using improvisational dance as an outlet for creative self-expression. Although he originally invented the dance style to enhance birthday party clown acts, today Tommy the Clown has a youth following of "hip-hop clowns" and takes his performances to schools and communities to work with children of all ages, teaching dance classes and sharing stories of how he turned his own previously misguided life around.

Tommy says of his first time teaching at Lula Washington's "I am really looking forward to teaching at this amazing school and pinnacle of our community. I think it is a perfect fit and I hope to continue my relationship with Ms. Washington and the school."
