For the past 6 years SoulBrew have been doing what SoulBrew do best – throwing carefree, unpretentious parties with the very best guests for a fun loving crowd of guys and gals that love their music funky. It is a formula that has worked well at every one of their previous 6 packed New Year's Eve events making it one of the most established and popular parties in town.
This year residents Spin Doctor & Andy Bird are joined by their most incredible line up of guests to date all but one of whom are doing exclusive New Year's Eve sets for this very special party. Between them they have worked with everyone from James Brown to Elton John, sold a millions of records world wide, have played records in every country with a set of decks and in the case of one man in particular have an OBE, an Ivor Novello award not to mention 2 Grammys.
You can expect a fun packed mix of sounds old and new that will take in everything including Soul, Disco, Hip-Hop, House, Reggae and beyond!
Few artists have had such an influence on dance music, not only in the UK but worldwide, than Jazzie B. The original funky dread started life as a DJ with his Soul II Soul sound system going on to run one of the most legendary parties London has ever known with his weekly Sunday night at The Africa Centre. The dub plates he cut to play to his dedicated following at this night went on to before the incredible "Club Classics Vol.1" which to date has sold over 3.5 million copies in 35 territories across the world and secured him 2 Grammys in the process. Having produced work for artists including James Brown, Sinead O'Conner ("Nothing Compares To You") and for labels including Motown, Def Jam and Atlantic there nothing this man does not know about making people dance to soul drenched sounds as you will hear as he guides you into 2010.
SoulBrew are ecstatic to also welcome Ashley Beedle to one of their parties for the first time. Having cut his teeth as a DJ in the early 80's spinning Disco & House his background in sound systems have infused him with a passion for everything from Reggae & Soul to Techno & Jazz, he will be encouraged to explore all of this influences on the night. His first production work as the Black Science Orchestra re-worked classic Disco into House and quickly became a favorite of Frankie Knuckles and Masters At Work. Both as part of X-Press 2 and on his own Ashley has topped charts around the world and remixed tracks by a diverse array of artists including Elton John's "Are You Ready For Love", Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up" & Lilley Allen's "LDN". Always keen to collaborate Ashley has worked under various guises including Disco Evangelists alongside David Holmes, Ballistic Brothers, Roots Revolution Jamayka Boys (championed by many as the first Dubstep production) to name a few. His diverse style is influenced by the melting pot that is his beloved hometown of London so he is happy to be playing for an open minded home crowd on this special night.
Keeping things rocking on the first floor by going back to back with a mix of Hip-Hop, Funk, 80's Soul and pretty much anything else they fancy are good friends Mr Thing & SoulBrew's own Spin Doctor. Having spent years DJing, often together, for crowd up and down the country and around the world they have a great ear not only for what is going to send their crowds bananas but also keep each other pushing the boundaries so get ready for a selection that is greater than the sum of it's parts.
Andy Bird will be making sure things are kept bubbling way into the earliest hours of 2010 as he takes over the controls in the basement with his typical brand of party friendly madness that can take in the soaring strings of Salsoul alongside the digital funk of Grace Jones with the occasional stop off at a forgotten pop classic that will see the ladies rushing the dance-floor. Warming things up in the basement is head honcho of the phenomenally diverse R2 records Kyri. Having released albums produced and compiled by the likes of Karizma, Rich Medina, Bobbito that take in all genres of underground dance music he is the perfect man to set the mood for this night of explorative revelry. His skills on the decks are matched by the man they call Kidkanevil that will be kicking things off with another of his incredible jazz fused sets of beats and pieces on the first floor.
