New York, NY – November 6, 2009 – Since 1990, New York-based music and lifestyle marketing company Giant Step has presented groundbreaking artists and exciting brands to influencers across the country. This year is no exception with previous events including New Year's Eve in Miami with The Roots; Q-Tip, Chester French and Little Dragon at the annual Giant Step Central Park SummerStage show; Erykah Badu at Governors Island; Ben Watt at Cielo; the jam-packed New Zealand at CMJ showcase with Surf City, Bang Bang Eche and more; Winter Music Conference performances and DJ sets at Delano in Miami including Wale, Matisyahu, Melanie Fiona and ?uestlove; and the Charity Water Benefit at NYC's Private Park at Hudson with Janelle Monáe. The year isn't over yet with several upcoming events that are sure to heat up the winter chill. For a complete schedule, see below.
SVEDKA Vodka Sessions & Future Music Series
This year, Giant Step & SVEDKA Vodka launched the successful SVEDKA Vodka Sessions – an intimate series showcasing the best bands and emerging artists. With previous shows featuring Wale, Mark Ronson, Diane Birch and Peter Bjorn & John at Morgans Hotel Group luxury properties across the country, Giant Step is happy to announce the next two events in the series.
On November 18th, Nigerian soul singer-songwriter Nneka makes her highly anticipated LA debut at SkyBar at Mondrian preceded by a DJ set by Vikter Duplaix. The series heads to Miami during Art Basel on December 4th when Kanye West protégé Kid Sister performs poolside at Delano. All performances in the series are 21+ and free with RSVP on Giant Step's website.
In addition to the performances, Giant Step & SVEDKA have partnered up for SVEDKA Vodka Future Music Series. The free monthly podcast, hosted by acclaimed London-based DJ Benji B of Deviation, features emerging acts from around the globe in a variety of genres. Episode #1 is currently available at http://svedka.giantstep.net/ with episode #2 premiering November 16th.
Performances
On November 9th, Giant Step presents Nneka's NYC debut at Joe's Pub as part of her first ever US tour.
Jazzonova's Alex Barck returns to NYC with his superb mix of soulful deep house, drum & bass, boogie, hip-hop, latin and soul at Sullivan Room on November 13th. He will be joined by special guest DJ Alex from Tokyo- one half of the production duo known as Tokyo Black Star.
Giant Step's bi-weekly DJ series at Hudson has been New York City's premier Monday night event for the last two years. The strong lineup continues with DJ Spinna (Nov 16th), The Martinez Brothers (Nov 30th), Turntables On The Hudson (Dec 14) and Danny Krivit (Dec 28th).
On November 27th, Giant Step heads back to Sullivan Room with Turntables On The Hudson. The night, titled Give Thanks, will invigorate your body as you support a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will benefit NextAid.
Last, but not least, is the return of Corinne Bailey Rae to NYC. Gearing up for the release of her second album, The Sea (scheduled to come out 2/10), the highly acclaimed songstress will perform an intimate set at Hiro Ballroom on December 9th. The show has sold out with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pump Aid.
