Spotrushaz celebrate groundbreaking song on NBA Video Game Soundtrack

Local rap group, Spotrushaz will soon have their music heard by millions of video game enthusiasts around the world as their 2006 single "Iron" is featured on the soundtrack for 2K Sports best-selling basketball game, NBA2K10. The tenth installment of the popular video game features 2009 NBA Champion, Kobe Bryant on the cover and an all-star cast of artistes on the soundtrack.

Spotrushaz will share soundtrack honors with big names such as: controversial rapper/producer, Kayne West ("Amazing"), Miami-based hit-maker, Flo.Rida ("ROOTS"), Hasidic Jewish Reggae musician, Matisyahu ("One Day"), Canadian Rock group, Metric ("Help I'm Alive") and former G-Unit Alumni, The Game ("Champion") among others.

Spotrushaz is a four-member group that has represented hip-hop music and culture in Trinidad and Tobago since 1999. The group has released several hit singles to local and regional radio and television stations and in 2006 they created history in making "Iron".

Group member, Nigel "BDangerous" Telesford claims that the infectious song, which rides a Soca Riddum produced by Aaron "Shortman" Peters, is "the first hip-hop track to include live iron instrumentation in the world". He said that this achievement validates the group's unique style and is a glowing tribute to all their hard work. He said:

"We are extremely proud to represent T&T on the soundtrack of this best-selling game and of course, we feel gratified to be chosen in the first place. We're celebrating our tenth anniversary this year and this is a fine crowning achievement because it was a purely organic case of them hearing our music online and being impressed enough to reach out and get us involved in the project. This is a first and definite achievement for hip-hop from T&T and it's also a first for NBA Superstar, Kobe Bryant, who has never appeared on a video game cover before. We're elated to be in such fine company on this groundbreaking release."

Local copyright music organization, COTT was instrumental in ensuring that the deal went smoothly and gave kudos to Spotrushaz for attracting such interest from a major US Company. Mechanical Licensing Officer, Enrico Camejo said:

"The Copyright Music Organization of T&T congratulates Spotrushaz on this outstanding achievement. From the time they joined COTT and even before that, Spotrushaz was always one of the groups we expected to achieve major success because of their unique approach to making music, as well as their perseverance and dedication to their craft. This deal took a few weeks of negotiation back and forth and COTT commissioned our affiliate in LA to negotiate on behalf of Spotrushaz, so we're thrilled to have the deal go through successfully and see the final product released."

Camejo added that this achievement also validates COTT's longstanding view that local artistes can create quality music of any genre, which can be appreciated by the rest of the world. He said:

"This is a great example for local hip-hop and R&B artistes to follow and be inspired by. Spotrushaz continues to pioneer and innovate in this genre and prove that Trinidadians and Tobagonians are capable of making any kind of music and making top quality music that can generate royalties and sustain their careers in the global music marketplace."
