Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) and Moderati Bring Fan Remixing to the Masses
Romplr Propels Music Beyond Ringtones with Remixing as Fans Make It Personal
July 14, 2009, SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bellrock Media's U.S. subsidiary, Moderati, today announced the next generation of digital music with "Romplr™", a patent-pending interactive music platform debuting with award-winning artist, Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. The Soulja Boy Tell 'Em Romplr allows people to create their own mixes from three of Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's hits – "Crank That", "Hey You There" and "Turn My Swag On". Using the key elements of the song, Romplr makes it easy for fans to create their own unique versions and share them with their friends.
Consumers have proved that they want their media to be interactive – the rise of social media, video gaming and interactive TV have paved the way but, until now, music has not been an interactive experience for consumers. With Romplr, fans can now connect to artists' music in a whole new personal way by creating their own versions of a song and being part of the creative process. In addition to the core song elements, the Soulja Boy Tell 'Em Romplr will feature seven additional samples, offering fans the tools to really connect with the music and personalize Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's tracks. Fans can then record and share their mixes through Facebook Connect, through email or on Romplr.com, the online interactive music companion site.
"IGA remains committed to creating and supporting new and compelling ways for fans and artists to connect," stated Ted Mico, IGA's Executive VP of Digital. "The Soulja Boy Tell 'Em Romplr application allows us to create a unique experience for the fans and the hip-hop community, and we look forward to working with Moderati to expand this program even further in the coming months."
Romplr is the first in a series of Romplr branded music applications to be produced by Moderati. Also launching today is Romplr Dance, which contains three original dance tracks that can be remixed by fans. Romplr will also be extended to other mobile platforms such Blackberry, Android, Java, Ovi and other popular mobile storefronts.
As one of America's largest mobile content agencies, Moderati has recently cemented its position as a leading creator of compelling Smartphone experiences. The company's Virtual Zippo Lighter iPhone application has reached over four million downloads and is ranked #18 on Comscore's all-time highest iPhone application downloads list. With the launch of the Romplr application, Moderati is turning their attention back to music by offering a fun and engaging platform for both fans and artists.
"Over the past eight years we've enabled the music industry to deliver over 100 million entertainment experiences to consumers," said Jon Vlassopulos, CEO of Moderati. "Romplr will become the next great platform for the music industry to reach a new consumer base that wants to not only listen to music, but also wants to interact with it, personalize it and share it with their friends. We look forward to working with many more artists, as we bring the Romplr experience to fans worldwide."
