NEW YORK-- (July 31, 2009) On Saturday, August 1st, MTV will celebrate its 28th birthday by giving Michael Jackson fans the ultimate present – three all-new tribute shows about the pop superstar. Viewers will see a mix of interviews, music videos and more about the artist throughout the day.

This historic event kicks off at noon ET/PT with the world premiere of "Michael Jackson's Human Nature." This half hour special will feature candid stories from the pop icon's friends and colleagues about Michael Jackson the human being, rather than the entertainer. Jackson touched many lives through his music and this show will tell the stories of the many people he impacted directly.

Every celebration needs some Michael Jackson hits, so MTV is giving viewers 90 minutes of MJ's most popular videos as decided by their number of streams on mtv.com. "Michael Jackson's Top 10 Video Countdown" (12:30PM ET/PT) will also feature facts and trivia about each video, as well as rare interview footage of Michael discussing his hit singles.

At 2PM, MTV will present the world premiere of "Michael Jackson's Influence on Music," an hour-long special featuring a collection of the top videos from the many artists who have been influenced by the King of Pop. From Justin Timberlake to Usher, MTV viewers will be treated to the hits inspired by Michael Jackson. British Music Experience to Host Iconic Michael Jackson Warhol Portrait

- Portrait to be Shown for Three Days Only Before Returning to The States

This Thursday 6th August the British Music Experience, the interactive exhibition of popular music situated within The O2, will display Andy Warhol's (Green) Michael Jackson portrait. The British Music Experience will be the only European venue to host the 1984 portrait before it returns to New York to go under the hammer. For just three days, the piece commissioned to celebrate the world record breaking sales of the King of Pop's Thriller album, will be added to the British Music Experience's collection.

The auction of the portrait will start with an opening bid of $800,000 - the average auction figure reached for a comparable Warhol portrait in recent years is $17 million. In the past the top price for a Warhol picture at auction is $71.7 million for 'Car Crash', and the top price for a Warhol portrait $28 million for 'Lemon Marilyn' - both sold at Christies in New York in 2007.

Government of Canada Renews Canada Music Fund and Increases Investment in Digital and International Market Development

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 31, 2009) - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that the Government of Canada is further ensuring stability for the arts by renewing the Canada Music Fund with an annual investment of $27.6 million over five years.

Minister Moore also underscored that the government is changing the structure of the Canada Music Fund in order to reduce the administrative burden and increase the visibility of Canadian music on digital platforms and in international markets.

"The music industry generates billions of dollars' worth of economic activity every year. Our Government is proud to offer greater stability in these uncertain economic times by stabilizing resources dedicated to Canadian music, while helping maintain thousands of jobs," said Minister Moore.

"We are also ensuring that a wide variety of Canadian music is accessible on multiple platforms, increasing the reach of our artists both in Canada and abroad," added Minister Moore.

The Canada Music Fund is administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage in partnership with MUSICACTION, FACTOR, the SOCAN Foundation, and Library and Archives Canada.

"We are fortunate to have strong leadership and vision from our current government, which recognizes the importance of supporting sustainable business models and believes in the cultural component and how it weaves itself into the overall Canadian identity," said Heather Ostersag, President and CEO of FACTOR.

FUNDING TO THE CANADA MUSIC FUND

The Canada Music Fund is the Government of Canada's main support program for Canadian music. Its objectives are to enhance Canadians' access to a wide range of Canadian music, increase the opportunities available for Canadian music artists and entrepreneurs, and ensure that Canadian music artists and entrepreneurs have the skills, know-how, and tools to succeed in a global and digital environment.

Main elements of today's announcement

- Sustained funding - The federal investment in the Canada Music Fund will be maintained at current levels, with $9.85 million per year in supplemental funding being extended through 2014-2015. The program will support the production and marketing of a wide range of music by emerging and established Canadian artists. The Fund's total budget will be $27.6 million annually.

- Streamlining - The number of components will be reduced from seven to five, with current support to Canadian Musical Diversity (CMD) and Support to Sector Associations being reallocated to the remaining components. This will result in the elimination of overlap in program delivery, a reduction of the administrative burden currently placed on a number of applicants, and better targeting of public funds to emerging priority activities.

- Reallocated funding - Funding from the CMD component will be redirected to priority activities as follows:

Digital market development ($900,000) - A portion of the reallocated funds will be targeted toward expanding markets for Canadian artists through digital distribution for the marketing and sale of music in Canada and abroad. This will support business-to-business initiatives, including projects that assist Canadian music entrepreneurs to connect with online music retailers.

International market development ($500,000) - The remaining reallocated funds will help Canadian artists enter new markets by connecting them with music buyers from around the world. Increased investment in international showcases will help Canadian artists book tours, sign with foreign labels, and obtain publishing deals, further diversifying their sources of revenue.

- Expanded eligibility - The Fund's eligibility will be expanded to industry players who are well positioned to assist artists in this time of change. Expanding eligibility to professionals, such as managers and digital distributors, will stimulate innovation and facilitate the development of business opportunities resulting from digital technologies.

Implementation

- Implementation of the renewed funding and changes to the existing program structure will be done by April 1, 2010.

- Applicant guides for components administered by Canadian Heritage will be available well in advance of the 2010-2011 application deadlines.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND THE CANADIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY

The Canada Music Fund will enhance support to digital initiatives to encourage innovation and expand markets for Canadian music artists through digital platforms.

- Digital technologies transcend borders, open markets, and increase competition for music businesses. CD sales are declining as consumers turn to file sharing and social networking sites to discover, access, and consume music.

- In Canada, revenues from music sales have declined 42 percent since 2001. While digital sales recorded significant growth in that period, this increase does not compensate for declining physical sales. In 2008, digital downloads represented 18 percent of music sales in Canada, compared with 32 percent in the United States. (Source: International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, ADISQ)

- Music industry business models are changing. Businesses that were once largely concerned with sales of physical formats need to diversify their revenue streams (for instance, through live music and merchandising) and use digital models (including online stores, subscriptions, over-the-air mobile downloads, and streaming) to promote and sell their content.

- Promoting and selling music online is essential to open markets for Canadian music. Our music entrepreneurs and artists must ensure not only that their content is available digitally, but also that it is highly visible to aid its discovery among the wealth of content online. Daz Dillinger (of The Dogg Pound) Gears Up For "Public Enemiez" Album On August 11th

Fans of  Tha Dogg Pound know that they never have to wait long for a new release from their favorite group members. Kurupt recently dropped his collaboration effort with DJ Quik, "BlaQKout", and it is now time for the other half of the Pound, Daz Dillinger, to grace his fans with a new album on August 11th.

The new record is entitled "Public Enemiez" and as the title suggests, it is premised around the "Public Enemies" flick which highlights 1930s gangster John Dillinger, who Daz amiably fashioned his alias after. "Public Enemiez" offers insight to Daz's most personal experiences, allowing listeners a window into what made Daz Dillinger the gangster/rapper he is.

Tracks such as "Life Stagez" and "N My Neighborhood" find Daz reminiscing about hismself and depicting the inner-city lifestyle that is, to this day, prevalent in "his neighborhood". "Tell Me What U Got", takes you on a trip through his days on Death Row Records and sheds light on his feelings about his former boss, Suge Knight. While most of the album carries a mellow sound, the party anthem "Meet Me @ The Strip Club" succeeds in switching up the mood throughout the record.

"Public Enemiez" is  a true solo album, meaning no other rappers are featured on it – something that rarely happens anymore these days. Daz did however reach out to some of his favorite R&B crooners Latoya Williams, Chris Starr, Los and Nicole Wray to assist him on the hooks, as well as his production partners Soopafly and Ivan Johnson to co-produce with him.

The state of Oklahoma has a new home town hero in Kingdom City Records recording artist, Dillon Chase.  You've heard him on several releases over the last few years on Reach Records 116 Clique-"13 Letters" and Sho Baraka "Turn My Life Up."

Dillon Chase was born in 1985 in Ada, Oklahoma and has been in the hip-hop game since 1999 but, he had a rough beginning growing up with his parents addicted to drugs and struggling to survive a lifestyle surrounded by every possible temptation a young teenager could imagine.  In 2004 Dillon became quite aware of his need for a Savior and then, he became a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  Through the next few years he met some new friends Lecrae and Sho Baraka who recognized his servant evangelism towards others and they quickly initiated him into the 116 Clique and the rest is history.

Scion's National Art Tour INSTALLATION 5: Self Portrait Arrives In Portland, OR

Scion's Installation 5 Art Tour, which will benefit Creative Capital, arrives in Portland, OR in August. The opening reception will take place Thursday, August 6th from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at three adjacent galleries: Igloo Gallery, On Gallery and Virtuoso Studios. The galleries are all located in Chinatown, 323 -325 NW 6th, Portland, OR 97209 (between Everett and Flanders), and the event takes place on the popular First Thursday. Artists Angela Boatright, Elyem, Souther Salazar, Too Tall Jahmal and Yoskay Yamamoto will be in attendance. DJ Rad! And Doctor Adam will be spinning. Too Tall Jahmal will travel, as always, with his bicycle so that he can explore the city this way. He is a bicycle enthusiast and founder of Wolfpack Hustle which organizes all-city team races in Los Angeles. His bike-centric artwork is featured on the event flyer and will be used as a poster giveaway at the opening. The fifth installment of Scion's Installation Art Tour was launched in October 2008.  The program is designed to give exposure to both established and emerging artists. Manifest Gets Digitized: Bahamian Hip Hop Icon Manifest Signs Digital Music Distribution Deal With Anvan Entertainment

Nassau, The Bahamas… Not even 30 years-old, Lavard 'Manifest' Parks is considered one of the Caribbean's pioneers of hip hop. The industry icon has been a fixture on the scene for over a decade now collaborating with some of the biggest names in the region and racking up multiple Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards including Song of the Year, Record of the Year and more. As one of the youngest producers balancing a family, successful label and nationally syndicated radio show in his native Bahamas, the founder of the Bahamas Hip Hop Fest has set the pace for the next generation of hip hoppers through the shining example he's provided with the success of his label Dunamus Soundz Records.
