+ DMC DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS CELEBRATES ITS 25TH YEAR
+ DJ JEPPA AND DJ RASP BATTLE THEIR WAY TO WINNING THE UK FINALS
+ THE LEGEND TONY PRINCE SPEAKS!!
For 25 incredible boundary pushing, trend setting, scratched, cut and mixed years, the worlds largest DJ organization, DMC, has been the authority on the DJ battle. The DMCs annual World DJ Championship competition brings together the worlds brightest DJ talents, vetted by a series of gruelling global heats. By doing so, DMC continues to host one of the most entertaining and jaw dropping shows you will ever witness. This years show is no different. In the 25th Anniversary of this prestigious competition, DMC is bigger than ever
The DMC UK DJ Final and Battle For UK Supremacy took place on July 9th at the O2 Academy, Islington. The main competition featured the 8 best DJs in the UK who have been battling it out across the country over the past 6 months for a place in this years final. Each DJ played an incredible set, but only one DJ could be the winner. The competition was tight, and with only a matter of points between them, but as the smoke cleared, Jeppa was crowned UK Champ. Furious P came in second, and Johnny 1 Move snatched 3rd place.
Earlier in the night 17 DJs took part in a no-holds-barred knock out competition to decide who would be the Battle for UK Supremacy Champion. With turntable dexterity, Rasp scratched his way to victory, and will battle at the World Finals, on September 11th at the Indig02 against a host of DJs - including last years World champ, the UKs own DJ Switch who will be defending his title.
Newly titled UK Champ DJ Jeppa will be battling against the worlds best on the second day of the World Championships: on September 12th at the Indig02. With it being the 25th Anniversary, tickets will go, expect big special guests, it is bound to be a massive weekend of musical genius.
With World Championship winners over the years including the superstar likes of the Scratch Perverts, A-Trak (Kanye Wests DJ), Q Bert, Craze and Mixmaster Mike (Beastie Boys), fame and respect could well accompany the bountiful prizes on offer courtesy of our sponsors Technics, CKIN2U, DrunknMunky, Rane, Numark and Ortofon.
+ DMC: A BRIEF HISTORY
From its humble DJ record service beginnings in the early 80s which is still the worlds largest DJ Service, to creating Mixmag the worlds most successful club culture magazine, a street wear brand and music compilation CDs [including Back to Mine, described by NME magazine as 'probably the greatest compilation series ever'], DMC has been vital in the growth of the DJ as a highly influential modern day cultural icon.
25 years of hard fought battles later, and DMC has built an army of dedicated followers worldwide, housing successful branches and competitions in 25 countries. In the UK, host venues have included The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena ,The Millennium Dome, Brixton Academy and the Hammersmith Apollo. Whilst the Championship Finals were staged internationally in Italy, Paris and New York, the spiritual home for the DMC World DJ Championship has become London. With DMC making appearances everywhere from Richard and Judy and Blue Peter to MTV and even being entwined within the plot of an episode of CSI: NY, it is clear to see the organizations impact on popular culture.
The inspirational performances of the world champions have advanced the art of turntablism and go down in the history books for pushing the limits of what humans can do with technology.
+ THE LEGEND TONY PRINCE SPEAKS!!
From starting the event many moons ago, being a pivotal force behind the infamous Radio Luxembourg, meeting Elvis and The Beatles, to being the first to put on Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and LL Cool J in England, Tony Prince has more stories than we can fit in a hundred press releases. Tony Prince is available for interviews.
"I remember the first time a DJ scratched in the DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIP, it was Americas DJ CHEESE in 1986. To introduce the scratch technique was one of many innovations DJs have year after year brought to this event over 25 incredible years."
"In this time an estimated 2 million DJs have entered the event in over 40 countries whilst a mere 20 DJs own the double set of Technics golden turntables which denotes their success. Were proud at DMC that weve maintained a worldwide music event for this length of time. We never would have believed back in 1985 that wed still be spinning a quarter of a century later. But then we didnt know how the DJ would take his art to a level that now places him in the musician category."
"Ian Gillan of Deep Purple once said to me that DJs are parasites of music. I begged to differ then and I now have the proof he was totally wrong! A proof that has been in evidence for 25 years!"
