Innovative recording cements Tip's rep as greatest MC/producer of all time
June 30, 2009, New York, NY- In these hard times, we can all stand a ray of hope. Hope in hip-hop now comes from the legendary Q-Tip, he of A Tribe Called Quest fame. His long-delayed album Kamaal the Abstract, slated originally for release in 2001, is finally dropping September 15th on Battery Records. A musical hybrid, Kamaal was commendably avant-garde at the time of its creation. Amazingly, it's even more apropos in 2009; given the dearth of musical merit and capable MCs in today's hip-hop, the time is ever-so-right for Tip.
Kamaal the Abstract is an intensely idiosyncratic and revealing record. To that end, Q-Tip produced the entire album himself, even playing several instruments. What comes from Kamaal is a daring mélange of soul, supa-cool jazz, headnodding hip-hop, and organic pop magic in the vein of Stevie Wonder or Prince. Check for the superlative figures of saxophonist Kenny Garrett, a one-time member of Miles Davis' ensemble, on the breathy "Abstractionisms." Or the fluid flute lines of Gary Thomas, another Davis sideman, on "Do U Dig U." Elsewhere, note Tip's ambitious production, arrangements, and even sung stylings.
But make no mistake: Kamaal the Abstract still boasts all the earmarks of Q-Tip's inimitable mic control. Listen to him blaze through a spiced narrative on "Even If It Is So." Or paint vivid images on "Blue Girl." The album has been re-mixed and re-mastered for sonic impact, though it retains the original album artwork. Black, an emcee many first heard on the track "God Like" from producer Jake One's White Van Music, that defining moment is now, and it comes in the form of the emcee's sophomore album, Ali'Yah (Hebrew for Ascend). Eleven dishes for dinner were served with several Mr. Chow's favorites including Ma Mignon, Fresh Seabass, Beijing Chicken, and one special dish created by Mr. Chow which was prepared using Frida Kahlo Tequila, fresh garlic and lobster. Upstairs in one of the private rooms, several BET executives enjoyed the festivities, including Chairman Debra Lee and President of Music Programming/BET Awards Executive Producer Stephen Hill.
Around 10:30 p.m. North Camden Drive was filled with every luxury vehicle with talent waiting to get into the most-talked-about post awards party. A white stretch limo slowly drives down the street with BET Awards Host, Jaime Foxx, wanting to attend as well. Celebrities tired of waiting in the valet line, quickly rushed out their car and walked their way to the party including Sherri Shepherd and Kym Whitley while paparazzi followed them to the red carpet.
Invited guests received Heineken branded souvenir coins which were the signature ticket into the party, and the only way into this exclusive, high-profiled event. Troy Marshall, VP of Promotions, showed Fabolous the Dr. Dre 'Beats By Dre' headphones which were displayed at the entrance of the Heineken USA room. June 30, 2009, Atlanta, GA - CunninLynguists' new mixtape, Strange Journey Volume One (Bad Taste Records) will hit the street on July 14 instead of June 30 as originally announced. Production issues have caused the two-week delay.
All songs were produced by Kno of CunninLynguists. In addition to a slew of new songs, the record features remixes, production work and interesting collaborations. The single is "Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)", which is now available digitally. A video of the first single is available on all major video portals. The mixtape features appearances by Slug of Atmosphere, Killer Mike, Khujo of Goodie Mob, Skinny Deville and Fishscales of Nappy Roots, Mac Lethal, Tonedeff, PackFM, Looptroop Rockers, Hilltop Hoods and others.
There has never been an anomaly in hip-hop quite like the southern trio CunninLynguists. (June 29, 2009) – Roy Brown, CEO of HyDra Management, LLC, and Real To Reel Film Productions, LLC has confirmed that HyDra Management has reached an agreement in principal with Select Records to distribute their newly formed Record Label HyDra Management Records world wide!
Select Records who was a major powerhouse in hip hop in the 80's and 90's and has several Platinum and Gold Records to their credit with artist such as "Kid n' Play, Chubb Rock, M.O.P.., UTFO, The Real Roxanne, The Jerky Boys and Many others. Fred Munao of Select and Roy Brown are finalizing the details of the deal which has been agreed to by both parties and the final agreement will be signed in the next few weeks.
Select remains a very prominent record label but for the past 10 years has been out of the Hip Hop spotlight. They have had many hits and are currently flying high with the group "Edible Red".
The new Hip Hop label "HyDra Management/Select Records" is being headed by long time independent artist manager Roy Brown. Roy formed Onyx Management Services, LLC with several partners in 2001 and went on to sign many artists, released 7 CD's and promoted Showcases at "The China Club", The Copacabana, "Sob's" The Remote Lounge, Babalu's, The Latin Quarter and many other venues throughout the tri state area. In December of 2008, Roy left Onyx Management and formed a new company, HyDra Management Services with new Partners Simone Burkley and Tracy Denton. In a short period of time, HyDra has made a name for themselves by being involved in every aspect of the music industry from their Recording Studio in Mount Vernon , NY to their commitment to promoting unsigned artists. HyDra's first official act after formation was to record the singles "Tipsy" and "Clap Reload" by Tha Council. Tha Council went on to perform these tracks at the Faces in the Crowd showcase competition at Rebel and won first place. This caught the attention of SRC a&r Jamal Meeks which led to many other appearances throughout the east coast.
Roy also formed a partnership with best selling author Shannon Holmes called Real to Reel Film Productions, LLC and is currently in production of their first feature film "Hard White" being shot on location in The Bronx and Mount Vernon .

Miami's profile has risen thanks to the city's role as host to the famed "Art Basel" and most recently "Primary Flight." "Primary Flight" is the internationally acclaimed, site-specific, street level mural installation that takes place during Art Basel. Miami Graffiti by photographers Jim and Karla Murray is the first book to capture Miami's graffiti scene. Popular KFC Hitmaker Song Contest Returns to Recognize Everyday Pride in Community
LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary lyricist MC Lyte and chart topper David Banner will add sizzle to KFC's search for the next hot musician in this year's "Hitmaker" song contest, now in its third year. Last year's contest drew 300 percent more entries than it did in the first year.
