Battery Records to release long-awaited Q-Tip album Kamaal the Abstract

Innovative recording cements Tip's rep as greatest MC/producer of all time

June 30, 2009, New York, NY- In these hard times, we can all stand a ray of hope. Hope in hip-hop now comes from the legendary Q-Tip, he of A Tribe Called Quest fame. His long-delayed album Kamaal the Abstract, slated originally for release in 2001, is finally dropping September 15th on Battery Records. A musical hybrid, Kamaal was commendably avant-garde at the time of its creation. Amazingly, it's even more apropos in 2009; given the dearth of musical merit and capable MCs in today's hip-hop, the time is ever-so-right for Tip.

Kamaal the Abstract is an intensely idiosyncratic and revealing record. To that end, Q-Tip produced the entire album himself, even playing several instruments. What comes from Kamaal is a daring mélange of soul, supa-cool jazz, headnodding hip-hop, and organic pop magic in the vein of Stevie Wonder or Prince. Check for the superlative figures of saxophonist Kenny Garrett, a one-time member of Miles Davis' ensemble, on the breathy "Abstractionisms." Or the fluid flute lines of Gary Thomas, another Davis sideman, on "Do U Dig U." Elsewhere, note Tip's ambitious production, arrangements, and even sung stylings.

But make no mistake: Kamaal the Abstract still boasts all the earmarks of Q-Tip's inimitable mic control. Listen to him blaze through a spiced narrative on "Even If It Is So." Or paint vivid images on "Blue Girl." The album has been re-mixed and re-mastered for sonic impact, though it retains the original album artwork.  Neil Levine SVP/GM of Battery Records is proud to release this buried treasure from Q-Tip:  "Kamaal the Abstract/Q-Tip is a true visionary and ahead of his time. These songs sound more contemporary now than when they were first recorded". Kamaal the Abstract drops September 15th. Better late than never.

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. LEAGUE ADD ASCAP RHYTHM & SOUL AWARD TO THEIR LIST OF GROWING ACCOLADES

Los Angeles, CA – Adding to their growing list of awards and accolades, Tampa production trio, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, brought home an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award from their recent trip to L.A. this past Friday for their work on last year's smash single, She Got It.

The name of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League is quickly becoming synonymous with rich, theatrical sound, filled with live instrumentation (between them the guys play about 12 instruments) and it is de rigueur for their work to be singled out in album reviews; Rick Ross' Deeper Than Rap being the most recent. The industry is definitely taking notice as artists from those up-and-coming and seeking a bonafide single to music's elite flock to book time in J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League's Atlanta studio. Recent and upcoming collabos include Maino's Here Comes Trouble, for the film and soundtrack to Antoine Fuqua's upcoming film, Brooklyn's Finest, P Diddy, Fabolous, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Plies, Yo Gotti, Busta Rhymes, Drake, OJ Da Juiceman, Ghostface and of course, Mary J Blige with whom the trio won a 2006 Grammy for their work on The Breakthrough.

Stay tuned for more J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League updates coming soon.

D. Black To Release New Album Ali’Yah

Sportn' Life Records & MYX Music Label Team Up To Release New D. Black Album September 15

(June 30, 2009 – Brooklyn, NY) D. Black, a Seattle, Washington-based emcee, is proud to announce the release of Ali-Yah. The album, D. Black's sophomore effort, which features production from Jake One and Vitamin D, will be available September 15 via Sportn' Life Records/MYX Music Label.

There are defining moments in every career. Moments of ascension; moments when taking the step from one level to the next is not only inevitable, but necessary. For D. Black, an emcee many first heard on the track "God Like" from producer Jake One's White Van Music, that defining moment is now, and it comes in the form of the emcee's sophomore album, Ali'Yah (Hebrew for Ascend). Praised for his polished rhyme flow, D. Black's new record, and the sound he self-describes as "deep-rooted soul with heavy slapping drums," will help define him as an emcee and a person. D. Black says, "I began recording a different album almost 2 years ago. In the midst of creating that album, I realized it wasn't for me; I was making music contrary to my inner person. Ali'Yah captures me in the midst of a spiritual journey that has altered my way of being even in my physical life." The result, an album inspirational both musically and conceptually, is finally ready.

D. Black has been a staple of the Sportn' Life Records roster for some time. However, the Seattle rapper's new LP, Ali'Yah, will be released jointly through Sportn' Life Records and MYX Music Label. MYX Music Label, the Bay Area-based label that recently released the highly acclaimed debut album from Keelay & Zaire, Ridin High, is a label quickly making a name for itself in the hip-hop world. Partnering with Sportn' Life Records for the release of D. Black's new album is another big step for the label. Karim Panni, MYX Music label head and long-time fan of D. Black's work, is excited to be a part of the project, seeing the partnership with Sportn' Life Records as a no-brainer. Karim says, "You see two artists collaborate all the time, and for an artist like D. Black, with such a great new album, we thought combining the resources of two record labels would be a great move to give this album the attention it deserves." On September 15, the fruits of the partnership between the two labels will be realized as fans finally get a chance to hear Ali'Yah.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, D. Black's musical roots are deep, with his mother and father both involved in pioneering hip-hop groups in the Seattle music scene. In 2006, D. Black released his debut album, The Cause & Effect, a huge regional success, allowing the emcee to share the stage with Nas, Freeway, Bun B, Clipse, Paul Wall, The Boot Camp Click, and more. After being mentored by Vitamin D, a staple and veteran of the Seattle hip-hop scene, D. Black began making a name for himself by working on projects with producer Jake One. One such collaboration resulted in D. Black being featured on Jake One's White Van Music, on the track "God Like," helping to cement the Seattle emcee as a household name beyond the Pacific Northwest. Jake One and Vitamin D were also both instrumental in helping D. Black create his new album, offering guidance and production on the record, along with D. Black, whose own production work has been featured on projects from Young Buck and 50 Cent. D. Black's new album, Ali'Yah, will be available September 15 via Sportn' Life Records/MYX Music Label.

ACE HOOD GETS RUTHLESS, HIS SECOND ALBUM ON DJ KHALED’s WE THE BEST MUSIC, VIA DEF JAM, RELEASED JUNE 30th

Two singles working at Urban and Rhythmic radio formats and video outlets:
• "CHAMPION" FEATURING JAZMINE SULLIVAN AND RICK ROSS
• "OVERTIME" FEATURING AKON AND T-PAIN

RUTHLESS follows Ace Hood's 2008 debut GUTTA, with singles "Cash Flow" featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross; and "Ride" featuring Trey Songz

"Hood's street stripes remain intact… more moments like this and he can truly ace the test of time."

– XXL magazine, RUTHLESS album review, (August 2009 issue)

(June 23, 2009 – New York, NY) South Florida rapper Ace Hood – named to the "Freshmen of '09" roster at XXL magazine – heats up the Internet and urban media scene this summer with the release of his second album RUTHLESS, arriving in the physical and digital marketplace on June 30th.  Ace Hood was the first artist signed to Terror Squad member DJ Khaled's We The Best Music, an exclusive partnership with Island Def Jam Music Group.

Kicking off the new album are two singles working their way up the Mediabase Urban and Rhythmic charts: "Champion" featuring Jazmine Sullivan and fellow Def Jam artist Rick Ross (which went up on iTunes one week ago) jumps to #55-bullet on the Mediabase Urban/ New & Active side, with a 2 million audience.  News of the video premiere for "Champion" will be announced in the days ahead.  "Overtime" featuring Akon and T-Pain, which has scanned over 32,000 digital sales to date, boasts a Mediabase total audience of 1.5 million.  The "Overtime" video, which was 106 & Park's "New Joint of the Day" when it premiered last month, continues to be aired on BET.

"Champion" and an edited (clean) version of "Overtime" can be heard at Ace Hood's MySpace website http://www.myspace.com/acehood, which has amassed over 37.8 million total plays since its launch last year. Other full-length tracks from RUTHLESS on the site include "Born An OG" featuring Ludacris, "About Me" featuring Ballgreezy, "Broward Anthem" featuring All Stars, "Straight Outta Broward," "Loco Wit the Cake," and "Ruthless Freestyle."

RUTHLESS is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Gutta, Ace Hood's debut album released November 2008.  Gutta contained the Top 30 Urban breakout single "Cash Flow" featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross; co-written with T-Pain, Rick Ross and DJ Khaled (who is heard on additional vocals) and produced by the Runners. The second single, "Ride" featuring Trey Songz and produced by The Inkredibles, hit #14 on the Billboard Rap Tracks charts, nudged the R&B/Hip-Hop Top 20, and crossed over to the Hot 100.  Ace Hood earned the distinction of being named to the "Freshmen of '09" roster at XXL magazine.

Antoine 'Ace Hood' McColister set his sights on the big time three years ago, when he turned to rapping after his high school football career was short-circuited by an injury.  He signed to local indie label Dollaz & Dealz, and recorded "M.O.E." ("Money Over Everything") which enabled him to perform and network around South Florida.  In November 2007, he showed up outside Miami radio 99-Jamz, where local contenders were gathered to show off their rhymes for a spot on DJ Khaled's birthday bash at South Beach's Club Mansion.  Khaled was so impressed that he came outside to meet the rapper for himself and grab his demo.  He phoned Ace's manager and a freestyle studio audition was set up for the very same night.

"I signed Ace because of his swagger," Khaled told XXL.  "We went in the studio and made a lot of hit records. His energy is just incredible."  For his part, Ace is looking forward to big changes in his life this year.  "This album is definitely gonna be a classic," he confidently says of RUTHLESS.  "People are expecting a lot out of me not only because I'm on Khaled's label, but because everyone knows that the ace is ranked as the highest."

3OH!3 Hits #1 at Top 40 Radio Nationwide With “Don’t Trust Me”

Explosive Duo Headlines Vans Warped Tour; Alternative Press Cover Appearance Set for August

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – June 30, 2009) – "Don't Trust Me," the blockbuster hit single from Photo Finish recording duo 3OH!3, has hit #1 on the new Mediabase Top 40 chart. The Boulder, Colorado-based electro duo will celebrate their #1 success as headliners on the just-launched Vans Warped Tour (see itinerary below). This marks the second consecutive Vans Warped Tour for 3OH!3, whose live set was unquestionably among the 2008 festival's biggest crowd-pleasers. 3OH!3 — a.k.a. Nathaniel Motte and Sean Foreman — will be among the cover stars featured on Alternative Press's upcoming Vans Warped Tour issue (August 2009).

"Don't Trust Me" has proven an across-the-board sensation, achieving RIAA platinum certification as it topped iTunes' "Top Alternative Songs" chart, while simultaneously rising up as a top 20 favorite on the comprehensive "Top Songs" tally. The infectious single is a multi-chart favorite, having hit the top 3 on Billboard's "Hot Digital Songs," the top 5 on "Pop 100 Airplay," and the Top 10 on Billboard's "Hot 100." The "Don't Trust Me" companion video clip remains a sales triumph, coming in as the week's #2 "Top Alternative Music Video" on iTunes.

In other news, 3OH!3 has contributed an original theme song, titled "Sex On The Beach," for the new season of MTV's blockbuster reality series, "The Real World: Cancun." Earlier this year, the duo traveled south of the border to Cancun, Mexico, where they taped a performance and appearance for an upcoming episode. Other recent TV appearances for 3OH3! included MTV's new "It's On With Alexa Chung" and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!."

"WANT," 3OH!3's breakthrough debut album, has proven a true digital phenomenon, with over 3 million tracks sold to date. Produced by Matt Squire (Panic At The Disco, Boys Like Girls), the collection sees 3OH!3 unleashing tongue-in-cheek rhymes and beats that incorporate '80s pop, electronica, and crunk hip-hop to deliver a knockout punch. "WANT" has drawn copious critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone naming the duo as "Artists To Watch," hailing their "unhinged" live sets, "tuneful emo-pop hooks," and "spastic electro grooves and aggro rapping."

3OH!3's MySpace page — located at www.myspace.com/3oh3 — has proven wildly popular, with total plays now approaching 180 million. The page has long been among the networking site's most popular artist pages, with over 300,000 friends and counting.
