Jehuniko interviews Sick Jacken of Psycho Realm

Jehuniko interviewed Psycho Realm's Sick Jacken and it is posted on www.illuminati2g.net. Psycho Realm, one of the last soldiers with a real worldwide cult-like following who speak on self-empowerment for Chicanos and expose lies by the Government greed machine. Jehuniko, with the help of Latina Beatz, was able to ask about unreleased music featuring Jacken's legendary brother Big Duke, their upcoming compilation album and much more. This is an interview not to be missed. If you don't know their history, do your homework and read below.

Tragedy and triumph. Two sides of the same ever-spinning coin that rules the game of life. No man can predict when or on which side the coin will land, and peoples' wildest dreams and worst nightmares come to life with its every flip. Life's winners are those resourceful individuals who manage to turn tragedy into triumph. The members of Los Angeles super-group Psycho Realm are no strangers to struggle. Sick Jacken and Big Duke emerge as a shining example of solidarity and success against almost insurmountable odds.

Psycho Realm is a Latin Based hip hop group started in 1989 by brothers Jacken (Joaquin Gonzalez) and Big Duke (Gustavo Gonzalez) from the Downtown, Pico Union area of Los Angeles. The bond shared between the members of Psycho Realm is one built on blood, sweat and tears.

The first recorded Psycho Realm song "Scandalous" was released on the soundtrack of the film "Mi Vida Loca" in 1993. That same year B-Real of the rap group Cypress Hill saw Psycho Realm performing at Olvera Street for an "End Barrio Warfare" concert. Their performance inspired B-Real to the point that he wanted to join the group.

With this time period being the height of Cypress Hill's career anything Cypress Hill related would get major publicity.

In the mid-'90s Jacken, Duke and B-Real of Cypress Hill united and delivered a staggering blow in the name of West Coast hardcore hip-hop with their self-titled debut album released in 1997 on Ruffhouse/Columbia Records. Raw, cutting-edge, and uncompromising the record was embraced by the streets and the critics alike for its winning combination of rock-solid beats, reality-based themes, and authoritative voices. Psycho Realm album was labeled as an addition to the Cypress Hill Family by the sticker placed on the CD case.

Due to conflicts with the record label and B-Real's contractual obligations with Columbia Records, the Gonzalez brothers left Columbia Records by the end of 1997. As Sick Jacken explains,

"The machine was just trying to censor us, we didn't do it for them so they ended up releasing us".

Independent and no longer locked down they lacked the big budget for promotion and distribution but it gave the group the creative freedom it desired to control it's own destiny in music fastest growing genre.
With B-Real unable to devote more time to Psycho Realm because of his commitments to Cypress Hill, Duke and Jacken formed Sick Symphonies in 1998, an independent label devoted exclusively to the Psycho Realm/Street Platoon/Sick Symphonies team.

Unfortunately, just as winter follows summer, their world was turned upside down in 1999 when Duke was shot during a random incident at a fast-food restaurant, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Crippled but defiant, the squad continued on, releasing Street Platoon's debut album "Steel Storm" in 2001, two more Psycho Realm albums: "A War Story Book 1" in 2000,  "A War Story Book 2" in 2003, Sick Symphonies present: "The Terror Tapes" in 2006, and "DJ FM's Street Mixes" 2007.

Because of his success with Psycho Realm, Sick Jacken has also guest appeared on many albums both in the rock and Hip Hop community (see discography).

At the present moment Jacken continues to grow as an artist and continues to release quality albums into the marketplace satisfying his loyal fan base's hunger for his style of music. His latest venture is a 50/50 joint venture with his newly formed label Rebel Music Group distributed by Universal Music Latino.

Sick Jacken's latest installment from the Psycho Realm catalog and signature sound is a collaboration with DJ Muggs, Legendary Producer, Pioneer, and founder of the Hip-Hop super group Cypress Hill. The album entitled DJ Muggs Vs. Sick Jacken "Legend of The Mask & The Assassin" was released September 2007 on Jacken's RMG label.

With tours being scheduled in 2009, and a spring/summer release of Sick Jacken's solo Spanish album on his RMG/UML imprint. Look for the Psycho Realm family to be a major force in both the Latino and Hip-Hop Markets in 2008 and beyond.
