too many mc's, not enough mics
Brooklyn, NY, March 10th 2009
A trio of great announcements coming from the offices of Brooklyn Bodega, producers of the annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.
First up – The date and venue for the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival are official. The New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation have officially green lighted the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival to return to beautiful Fulton Ferry State Park on June 20th, 2009. The application and permitting process is a key part of the event that many never see. Executive Director, Wes Jackson, "We are thrilled to be working once again with State Parks to produce a great year of programming. Having the Festival in Empire Fulton Ferry [State Park] is one of the key factors that make us unique. We are the only major Hip-Hop cultural event and festival hosted in the heart of THE city. We're not on a farm or in the desert or way out on the [Long] Island. We are 90 seconds from the A train. That would not be possible if it weren't for [New York State Parks Regional Director] Rachel Gordon, the park rangers, the State Park Police, our friends at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and many others for creating such a beautiful venue in Brooklyn."
Also announced today was the partnership with Sirius/XM's Subsoniq on the BHF '09 "Show and Prove" MC competition. Subsoniq will serve as the official media partner for "Show and Prove" and the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. "Show and Prove" semifinalists and finalists will be featured as Subsoniq's Artist Of The Month. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite "Show and Prove" contestant by writing into subsoniq@siriusxm.com or by checking out the Subsoniq site at www.proghiphop.com. Subsoniq is the voice of quality and progressive Hip-Hop on the Satellite radio giant. With an estimated audience of over 1 million, this partnership will give these up and coming MC's nation wide and worldwide exposure.
Subsoniq hosts Kyle and KB are long time supporters of Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival having been the Festival's first hosts.
Kory "KB" Bartholomew, host and producer of Subsoniq, "We are honored to once again work with Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. We have seen it grow from the grassroots level into one of the most premier and unique Hip-Hop festivals around. Subsoniq has always been a place where we try and give independent/unsigned groups some shine with our Artist of the Month series, and being able to incorporate and expose our listeners to the "Show and Prove" finalists was the perfect fit."
Lastly, The Bodega is adding a second stage to the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. "Due to the overwhelming response to the 'Show and Prove' competition we have decided to create a second stage this year. The idea of picking just one of these cats to feature this year felt like a disservice to our Festival family," added Jackson. " The second stage will be under the tent in the Tobacco Warehouse. It will be dedicated to local and up and coming talent. The majority of the second stage talent will be some of the great artists who don't win 'Show and Prove.' We have just been listening to so many great MC's and groups that we had to figure out a way to let you guys hear them. It is a really a natural progression for the Festival. We are very excited."
MC's interested in playing the second stage should enter the 'Show and Prove' competition by registering at www.brooklynbodega.com and sending links to their work to showandprove@brooklynbodega.com. Stay tuned for more announcements regarding artist lineup and media partners.
