MI’s Audio Engineering Program Preps Its Students for Long, Fruitful Careers Using State-of-the-Art Technology in Classes Taught by a Staff of Legendary and GRAMMY-Winning Producers and Engineers

February 18, 2009, LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Since Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu) launched its world renowned Audio Engineering Program (also known as the Recording Institute of Technology) just over 15 years ago, the department has equipped thousands of talented students for successful careers as producers, engineers, artists and numerous other high profile positions in the music industry.

The history is exciting, but the program is hardly resting on its formidable laurels. Under the guidance of Monica Mancillas, its director since 2006, MI's Audio Engineering program has been in a major expansion mode of late, debuting its exciting new Post Production Audio Program in the fall of 2008.

Students who complete the required two-quarter coursework for their Certificate in Audio Engineering now have the option to continue with an extra one-quarter emphasis in Post Production Audio. Instruction takes place on the newly built state-of-the-art THX-certified dubbing stage, a room created by famed studio designer Jay Kaufman that houses the Digidesign ICON D-Control and is a formidable rival to many of the commercial studios in Los Angeles. The focus is on applied, hands-on learning, with small classes and workshops that place students on state-of-the-art consoles from the first day of classes. The school's studios, the SSL room, THX Certified Dubbing Stage and Neve Vx room, are all million-dollar, world class facilities rivaling LA's best professional facilities.

While outstanding facilities and equipment are important, a program is only as effective as its instructors. The Post Production program has an impressive slate of renowned teachers, all of whom are widely respected in their respective fields.

All of the students' training culminates in the creation and development of the final recording project, which they mix and master themselves. MI's role as a gateway to the industry is front and center as students function in A&R capacities to discover and recruit the right singers and musicians (from MI and outside) to work on these assignments. Personal project advisers are on hand to guide their progress on projects that range from rock to hip-hop and instrumental jazz.
