Legendary singer/songwriter Billy Joe Shaver will perform Friday, March 14th at 2:00 PM at the Texas Music Magazine listener appreciation party and 7:00 PM at Jo's Coffee. VH1 ROCK DOC: THE NIGHT JAMES BROWN SAVED BOSTON (60 Minutes - Premieres April 5)

The night is April 5, 1968 -- one night after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and America's inner cities began going up in flames. There is already violence in Boston's heavily-black Roxbury neighborhood, and word on the street is that it's about to get a lot worse.

At Boston's City Hall, Mayor Kevin White is trying to keep the fragile peace. One reported idea was to cancel that day's biggest gathering -- a long-scheduled James Brown concert at Boston Garden. But a call from one of Boston's most influential R&B DJs to the lone black city councilman points out the danger of that decision. Simply, he says, if the concert is cancelled, Boston might have the biggest uprising since the Boston Tea Party. And so, faced with the grim reality of making the wrong decision, the mayor and his team turn it around. Rather than cancel the show, they ask, "Is there something James Brown can do to help?"

Mayor White wants to know if James will encourage his fans to stay home and watch the concert on television. In so many words, the mayor is saying, "If you'll allow this concert to be on TV tonight, your fans in Boston will stay home and the night will be peaceful." Meaning that unlike what is happening in so many other cities around the country, Boston won't erupt in flames. There won't be rioting if James will give his blessing, which he does and there isn't.

Finally, 40 years after that remarkable and historic moment, VH1 Rock Docs presents "The Night James Brown Saved Boston," a film from David Leaf Productions. Through rarely seen footage of the concert and with the personal reminiscences of James Brown's band members, colleagues (including long-time manager Charles Bobbit), awe-struck concert-goers (including Newsweek's David Gates), Boston city government officials and the pointed commentary of several distinguished observers of African-American history (including Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Andrew Young, Rev. Al Sharpton) -- the dramatic and emotionally-riveting story unfolds.

International Hip-Hop Back For a Third Time: Artists Gather From Around the World to Make a Difference Through Hip-Hop

Hartford, Connecticut, March 1, 2008 – Hip hop garnered a lion's share of negative publicity in 2007 – DJ Drama was arrested for selling mixtapes, Don Imus pointed a finger at hip hop's misogyny and T.I. was arrested on gun charges – spawning a nationwide dialogue over the future of the culture. But one bright spot was the Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival, now poised for its third annual event on April 4, 5 and 6, 2008, sponsored and hosted by Trinity College in Hartford , Connecticut . The Trinity Festival is a coming together of artists, activists, pioneers, filmmakers, DJs, graffiti writers, and fans with one thing in common – to make a difference in the world through hip hop.

The first and largest international hip hop festival in the United States, the Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival blends the wisdom of old school pioneers with the passions of hip hop musicians from the far points of the globe.

Co-organizer and Trinity College student Zee Santiago said, "This is the first event of its kind that demonstrates how hip hop has become an international culture as well as an accepted academic area of study."

In past years, Trinity College has played host to hip hop luminaries such as Fab 5 Freddy, Jeff Chang (author of Can't Stop Won't Stop), Byron Hurt (director of Hip Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes) and Charlie Ahern (director of Wildstyle).

The 2008 festival will kick off Friday afternoon with a hip hop theatre performance led by Baba Israel and opening remarks from Trinity College President James F. Jones, Jr., and Dr. Xiangming Chen, the Dean of the Center for Urban and Global Studies. This will be followed by a keynote address from Bakari Kitwana (author of The Hip Hop Generation and Why White Kids Love Hip Hop) entitled "Can Hip Hop Make the Transition from Cultural Movement to Political Power?"

Artists scheduled to perform Friday night include Baba Israel (Australia/USA), La Bruja (Puerto Rico), Shokanti with Chachi and crew ( Cape Verde ), Abyssinian Creole (Seattle), Self-Suffice ( Hartford ), and a Senegalese "Super Crew" featuring several top Senegalese MCs backed by Nomadic Wax's African Underground live band. The performances will be hosted by Canadian lyricist Eternia and Blitz the Ambassador ( Ghana ) backed by DJ Boo (of the Juggaknots).

Saturday's activities will kick off with a panel discussion about the early years of hip hop with old school pioneers Grandmaster Caz and Tony Tone from the Cold Crush Brothers, Grand Wizard Theodore and DJ Disco Wiz. Pop Master Fabel of the legendary Rock Steady Crew will host a 2-on-2 b-boy battle Saturday afternoon with music provided by DJ Disco Wiz and a $500 prize on the line. West coast crew and Trinity-alums Trust Your Struggle will present a Graffiti Workshop and collaborate with other invited artists to create an all new mural in the center of campus. The Beat Making Workshop will give budding producers tips on how to make hip hop beats led by Connecticut production team Kemistree and Zaquan.

Saturday night's performance schedule includes Zimbabwe Legit (Zimbabwe/USA), The Perceptionists (Mr. Lif & Akrobatik – USA ), Sam the Kid ( Portugal ), Jewish emcee Y-Love (presented by Trinity College 's Hillel House), female super-group Anomolies, spoken word collective iLL-Literacy and Rebel Diaz (Chile/Puerto Rico). Performances will again be hosted by Eternia and Blitz with DJ Boo.

On Sunday, hip-hop educator Melissa Noel Green will present "The Art of Rhyme" Workshop. Global hip hop DJs will spin at the "Chill Out Lounge" during the course of all three days culminating with an open mic session for MCs on Sunday afternoon.

The event has elicited an enormous response and has been called "the best of the wave of springtime hip-hop conferences" by highly esteemed journalist Jeff Chang.  Trinity College has been described as "a point of renaissance for Hartford " by the Trinity Tripod and the BBC reported that the students and artists involved "truly believe they can change the world through Hip-Hop." The Trinity Tripod declared it "up to events like the [International Hip-Hop] Festival to pierce through the negative, capitalist-driven image now tagged to the Hip-Hop genre." XXL magazine wrote of "an event that everyone could relate to, regardless of what country they came from or language they spoke."

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE

It is December 1, 2007. Pizon is on stage in front of fans, friends, and family alike at a small yet crowded club in his home borough of Queens, New York. After some of his collaborators -- which include fellow emcee Analyze and an all-female step team from the College of Mount Saint Vincent -- exit the stage, a lone-standing Pizon addresses the crowd.

"I dropped my album a year ago on La Scala Entertainment, my own label...Rawkus Records picked it up...My album re-release party is tonight.  It is also...Timid's album release party...His album's on sale tonight...And, it's also the celebration of EJ's move to New York City.  This dude drove from Texas to New York for the show, and he's not going back....You knew that.  But what you did not know is that [tonight's] also the album release party for my new project, called And Then There Was One."

The crowd is stunned. Here they are celebrating Pizon's Rawkus 50 album (released worldwide on November 27), only to learn a brand new Pizon project to be delivered via his own La Scala Entertainment -- the label that originally released the Rawkus album -- is on the way. They don't call him one of the hardest working men in Hip Hop for nothing.

THE PREMISE

Pizon is adamant that And Then There Was One is not the sequel to I Am Hip Hop, yet he suggests they go hand-in-hand. "My album was very much like a movie, right? Now imagine the credits are rolling, and all of a sudden it cuts to a new scene with the caption: 'One year later.' This project picks up where the album left off, and briefly gives you an update on the real-life situations I described in the feature presentation." Since the album was about the loss Pizon experienced in his life, the new project addresses his having to deal with facing the world alone.

"After my album came out, I was having a discussion with Analyze about where I should go with my music. As one of my biggest musical influences, he is someone whose opinion I take very seriously." At that point in time, Pizon reportedly played him "No Closure," a song he had written and recorded for himself in November 2006 but wasn't planning on releasing to the public. "'You're crazy for keeping this to yourself,' he told me. 'This is exactly the kind of music you should be putting out.'" Analyze liked the song so much that he asked to feature on it, and after leaking earlier this year, the track is now one of Pizon's most successful songs. "A good writer knows when to be complex and when not to be. Sometimes instead of saying, 'Due to the unfortunate circumstances under which I am suffering, my psychological state in the present time is less than ideal,' it's more effective to just say, 'Yo, I'm sad.' This is raw human emotion in its purest form."

That set the course for the rest of the project, and while Pizon did work with a few others, most of it was recorded in complete isolation. "I already felt isolated mentally, so I got myself an apartment 250 miles from home, stayed all by myself, and let the music flow." Pizon got to work, and did not tell a soul what he was doing. True to the spirit of the project, many of the songs feature instrospective lyrics over dark soundscapes set by brooding pianos. In the faith-questioning "Low Gravity," Pizon raps, "What goes around doesn't always come around/ And what goes up don't always hit the ground/ It's fucked up when gravity can't hold you down," second-guessing the fundamental belief in karma that permeated his debut album. "Don't Know Where To Lie" sees Pizon describing all the things he's seen, most notably people's refusal to open their eyes and see, before declaring, "I made my bed speaking the truth, now I don't know where to lie." Despite all the emotion, Pizon does get lyrical in the traditional sense of the word, flexing his technical proficiency as an emcee on songs like "Reverse the Hands," in which he fantasizes how he would live his life if given the chance to start all over. Also included are new mixes of the previously-leaked "Drunk" and "Give It Up (Remix)." The latter is particularly interesting, being a song in which Pizon chooses to express himself without words, but rather by producing new music around existing vocals.

And Then There Was One is a special digital-only release that is currently available from iTunes and other key online retailers.  With this project out of his system, Pizon's plans for 2008 include a continued push for his Rawkus album, finishing the Fam album Family Business with Timid and EJ, high profile collaborations with the likes of D12 and others, and work on his as-of-yet untitled sophomore album.

NYC rapper documents his journey in hoping to secure a record deal.

Very few rappers push themselves to the extremes that this manhattan native does. This Lower East Side lyricist is that focused (no pun intended) on securing himself a deal that he has set himself a target of one year to ensure that he does just that.

Documenting the trials and tribulations that unsigned artists go through to live out their dreams, Fokis born William Heredia is videoing his journey through the realities of the recording industry today.

The aptly titled Road to the Riches video footage available on the rappers myspace page and on numerous other sites on the web shows Fokis  dealing with everyday issues such as staying in shape. "I know that your appearance is very important in this business and being in shape is important for your health so I challenged my self to lose 50 to 60lbs in a years time. its a battle that many people face. I know if i can achieve my goal i will inspire many people as well."

Fokis and The Road to the Riches  captured the attention of Hot 97 DJ Absolut who will be presenting the the shows soundtrack  which is set for release in the Spring. "I have come across many artist's in my time but when I met Fokis, there was something very unique about him.  Not only is he a talented artist but he is very persistent, has a good head on his shoulders and is definitely about his business. Lil' A is also a professional actor with numerous credits under his belt, while Lil' Frank is a skilled musician, who works on the music for Young Italy's songs.

I wrote a lot of these tracks on the road, and the experiences that rolled with it, and they definitely come out in the album. "The record itself has an outlaw attitude about it, and represents me very well. Emerging Latino Actor Lands Role in Major Motion Picture Film

  Atlanta , Georgia- March 3, 2008- Multitalented Actor, Musician, CEO of Power Moves Entertainment and The Source Latino Magazine, Eric Martinez gets supporting role in the film "Oblivious."  Oblivious is a theatrical release action/ thriller/suspense written by Screenwriter and veteran music producer Marlon Campbell, who was also the original film distributor for actor, movie director Tyler Perry before signing to LionsGate. This action thriller will start production this summer in Atlanta , Georgia .

Martinez , a rising actor announced today he will portray a hit man in the film Oblivious. Mr. Martinez, best known for his role in (Love Lies Bleeding) made his acting debut in the film as a gang member where he worked side by side with American actor Christian Slater. "I can't tell you how blessed and thankful I am to Marlon Campbell for giving me this opportunity, and my publicist for getting me this role. I'm sharing the big screen with actors I admire and doing what I love to do" said Martinez .

Additionally, signed on to the film is actress Natina Reed co-star of the movie "Bring It On" and platinum selling girl trio "Blaque" will make an appearance in the film. Six time Grammy Award Winning Publisher, recipient of two Congressional Awards and Best Selling Author, Jay Warner has signed on to the film as Music/Creative Director along with rapper TQ. Kandi multi talented and award winning Songwriter/Producer will make an appearance in the movie along with also co-producing the sound track.
