Stockton- Thursday, November 6, Lil Wayne's "Obama, Obama, Obama" refrain cranks out through the speakers during the Clef Notes Entertainment, Obama Party, at FAT'S Grill & Bar.
RP-9, a local up and coming rap artist, had his newest and latest song, "Get Money" kick off the night at 9:00 p.m. through KWIN's radio station airwaves on Alexia's Unsigned At 9 segment where votes for this hit are wanted at www.kwin.com.
He was expected to perform during the Obama Party but, instead was unable to do that. A bad case of confusion and assumptions left radio star RP-9 out in the cold. It didn't stop him from staying around and updating his industry peers. The Obama Pary line-up went on to include other local stars such as P Kiz, ApeX, Trell Mix, Lunnie, L'Jay and a few youngsters from Modesto who didn't stay long after. Producers Quick Strike, Douglas Lennard and Roth Goldstein were also in the house supporting their artists and Obama. Other artists in the house included, Macknifi$ent, Swayz, and finally, Shogan, who will be having a CD release party at the Alano Club, Friday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m.
As music pulsed through the blood and life of everyone at FAT'S Grill & Bar, so too did the positive energy of President Obama. As the crowds expressed their thoughts and opinions about Obama becoming the first black president, local citizen Marvin Smith said, "It was a challenge. Obama is a good spokesperson." Rap Artist Trell Mix said, "We need someone with a fresh new mind." And 22 year old Johanna Bradley said she did not vote for Obama but for McCain. "I like the fact that Obama is very natural and 'green'. I didn't like that he was raised Muslim and though McCain is not a good politician, he served our country in war."
No matter the religious preferences or depth of political skills one possesses, the fact is, Barack Obama is our new president. In celebration of that, a few R&B Soul, Rap and Hip Hop artists came together to pull off another exciting night, filled with, "Positive, conscious and progressive hip hop," according to ApeX, who delivered the strongest lyrics of the evening. ApeX is another must-listen-to artist. He shares with his audience the passion of awareness and raps, "Wake up," as he continues to shine the light on difficult issues Americans face today.
This is another refreshing performance in the hip hop scene, as ApeX brings intellectual messages with the art of hip hop. "We link Hip Hop and other genres of music, with interests and academics so we can give back to the youth and community through educational music. It's what the youth want."
On the same route to change as Obama looks to be headed, Stockton's hip hop scene too, is on the rise and on its way to new growth. Watch for more about these artists. Currently, you can find the majority, if not all of them, on MySpace.com.
