Leading Hip-Hop Lifestyle Magazine Focuses on Presidential Election and Hip-Hop in Iraq
NEW YORK – October 27, 2008: The Source Magazine (www.thesource.com), the leading publication of hip-hop music, culture, & politics, announced today the release of their most comprehensive politics issue for the month of November featuring presidential candidate Barack Obama gracing the cover. Under the new leadership of renowned entertainment & media lawyer L. Londell McMillan, Black Enterprise Greenwich Street and the new Source management team, the magazine features a face-off between both John McCain and Barack Obama highlighting their views on a variety of issues and how each could impact the multiple generations of potential voters within the hip-hop community. The new issue also includes introspective, real-life anecdotes and soldier stories from the troops overseas on how the presence of hip-hop serves as a means of motivation giving them the strength needed to get through their daily battle of survival in the Iraqi war.
Within the historic issue, hip-hop culture heavyweights such as Jay-Z, Will Smith, Kanye West, Ice Cube, Lil Kim and a variety of others all take part in offering their thoughts on what they want to see as the outcome of the coming election. The magazine and TheSource.com look to direct attention to the youth and its energizing voice in the upcoming election. It also hones in on the issue of whether those incarcerated or convicted of a felony crime can vote. There is a state-by-state voters guide for those on probation, parole, or incarcerated. The Complete Source Voters Guides encourages readers to make an informed decision and to GOTV (Get Out The Vote). In addition, the issue focuses on the personal stories of various troops overseas that rely on the art of hip-hop to keep them going during their day-to-day struggles.
"This is a momentous occasion for The Source as it is the first time the publication along with the youth have placed such a heavy focus on the presence and importance of politics and public service," says co-owner L. Londell McMillan. "From the involvement of today’s top hip-hop stars to the powerful real-life stories of our courageous troops overseas, this issue and the daily initiatives on TheSource.com will invoke the feelings and emotions of all people and the hip-hop community to get out the vote."
