Unsigned Artist Wins $24,000 24-Karat Gold Keyboard

Now that the event has ended, Open Labs has calculated the Beats 'N Treats Music Festival to be a successful business venture. The two-day festival at the Mohawk club in Austin, Texas from Oct. 24 through Oct. 25 featured the Gold Rush beat competition with the grand prize a 24-karat gold NeKo LUX. After six rounds of one-on-one competitions, each contestant played their beat through an Open Labs MiKo until the final contestants played early Sunday morning. The grand prize winner was Austin resident JJ Robinson, also known as "Y2JJ" of Philliez Beats and the contest ended at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Y2JJ prevailed against Russell Lee for his sixth beat of the event, and was awarded the gold Open Labs instrument worth over $24,000 and personally owned by Open Labs co-founder and chairman, Victor Wong.

"I'm very pleased with how the entire event turned out," said Victor Wong. "We had some incredible producers travel from all over the country to participate in this event. New York, L.A., Washington, you name it, they came down for a chance to win my NeKo LUX. These musicians' material was completely professional, and just as good as anything you hear on the top ten charts today."

Open Labs CEO, Hank Coleman, concurred. "We put a lot of time and energy into the Beats 'N Treats Festival, and it was by all means worth it," said Coleman. "Most music festivals have a hard time getting off the ground on their first year, but this one exceeded our expectations."

Y2JJ was in awe about winning the NeKo LUX. "I'm kind of speechless," said Y2JJ. "It's a blessing, It was almost like destiny to get this. After the first round I was confident, but after hearing the other contestants I went back to the drawing board that night, and it turned out for the best. I mainly focused on hip-hop, a lot of guitar, and made sure my bridges were all guitar leads mixed with symphonies. I wanted to make sure I kept that live feel, and then bring it back into hip-hop based on the crowd's reaction. I've taken off the next week of work to spend some time with my new NeKo LUX."

After the contest ended, Victor Wong decided to donate a Timbaland Special Edition MiKo to the second place contestant Russell Lee, for displaying a fierce competition, and providing professional music.

"Although Y2JJ won a fair battle, we couldn't just let Russell Lee go home empty handed," said Wong. "He worked really hard, displayed some incredible talent, and had a great reaction from the crowd."

The entire event was broadcast live on the Internet by multiple HD cameras, and featured live bands on the inside stage for both days, and. The outside stage featured performances by Mickael, Bavu Blakes, Mike and Ike, Union Cartel, Komodo, Perfect Strangers, and Pointbender. With a noise meter displayed on a projector screen on the back of the stage, each contestant was judged by the crowd's reaction. For both nights, several hundred attendants filled the Mohawk's multi-level layout, which also included an Open Labs demo booth and an Art Institute of Austin booth on the rooftop. MTV will pay tribute to the legendary countdown show with a send off like no other on Sunday, November 16th beginning at 8:00pm ET/PT, with "TRL's" original host Carson Daly and current host Damien Fahey set to helm the finale. The celebration will feature top-billed performances, guest appearances from music and movie stars, and a look back at the best moments on afternoon TV.

From the days of "Bills, Bills, Bills" to the recent launch of two new videos on "TRL," we have watched Beyoncé flourish as a performer. Beyoncé will lead the way for the celebration, giving the live audience a glimpse into why she is one of the top selling artists of our time. Also picking up the microphone at "Total Finale Live" will be 50 Cent, whose new MTV series "The Money and the Power" will debut on November 6 (10PM ET/PT).

The Backstreet Boys, a band that exemplifies the impact that "TRL" has had on budding careers, will also perform once more on the "TRL" stage. Pete Wentz, who hosted video premiere show "FNMTV Premieres" this summer, will join his Fall Out Boy bandmates for a performance, three years after the band premiered their first single, "Sugar We're Going Down," live on "TRL" at the "Summer on the Strip Vegas Beach House" in 2005, leaving viewers captivated by their unique emo-brand of punk pop. More performances will be announced at a later date.

Aside from performers and countdowns, another "TRL" staple has always been the guest appearances and "Total Finale Live" will be no exception. Diddy, whose 36 appearances on "TRL" stands as the current record, will return to the studio once more, and Mariah Carey and her five octave voice will stop by to discuss the influence that "TRL" had on her mind-blowing career. Country music chart-topper Taylor Swift and pop starlet Hilary Duff will join rappers Ludacris, Nelly and Snoop Dogg along with rock music's Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and Korn's Jonathan Davis to talk about their most memorable "TRL" moments.

Whether getting to the bottom of controversy or playing practical jokes on celebs, the "TRL" VJs have always been an essential part in setting the tone of the show. VJs from various years are coming back to bid adieu to the show that set a standard for music countdowns. In addition to co-hosts Carson Daly and Damien Fahey, we will also welcome back Lyndsey Rodrigues, Vanessa Minnillo, Dave Holmes, Jesse Camp, Hilarie Burton, La La Vasquez and Quddus.

At an event free and open to the public today at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, Mayor Greg Nickels and the Seattle music community will celebrate and honor Seattle's rich musical history and its ongoing importance in Seattle's economy and culture.

The event will include the release of a new economic impact study on music and Seattle and the announcement of the formation of a formal city commission dedicated solely to music. In addition, the Mayor will outline a 12-year strategy encompassing the city's commitment to build upon and provide resources to make Seattle the country's most attractive city for music business, musicians and live music.

"The economic impact study reveals once again that music is more than just entertainment, it is a vital part of Seattle's economy and cultural identity. The study creates a benchmark for Seattle to grow," says Ben London, local musician and Director of the Recording Academy Pacific Northwest Chapter. "The City of Music effort is an exceptional way to celebrate our success and leverage it to create a music community and industry for the future."

Mayor Nickels will hold a press conference today at 4:45 p.m. on the stage at the Paramount Theatre. A public celebration will kick off at 5:15 p.m. and will include representatives of music business, musicians and live music speaking about the city's unveiling of SEATTLE CITY OF MUSIC™.

"This is a proud day for the city and those businesses, musicians and live music venues which make Seattle their home," says Mayor Nickels. "Music is a part of Seattle's identity – it gives our city soul."

The celebration will also include guest performances featuring Vince Mira, New Faces and Blue Scholars – with a special tribute to music education featuring the Garfield High School Dance Team's tribute to Quincy Jones, the nationally-renowned Eckstein Middle School Jazz Band, Garfield High School Jazz Quintet and the Seattle All-City Marching Band.

Rip-hop hybrids the Kottonmouth Kings have posted the video for their new single "Where I'm Going" online at www.kottonmouthkings.com .The video was directed by Kevin Stokes deep in an old abandoned mine in the California desert and stars motocross daredevil Seth Enslow.
