Chicago Rapper/Activist Torrio Jetson Puts the Heart and Soul Back into Hip Hop
Rapper/Activist Torrio Jetson is poised to put the heart and soul back into Hip-Hop. He is a "Rebel with a Cause." This versatile MC continues to prove himself as a lyricist and has garnered the respect of many of his peers from around the world. Torrio grew up listening to musical greats such as Al Green, James Brown and Isaac Hayes. His passionate lyrics mesh effortlessly with his sonically moving tracks.
With his debut album BACK FROM THE FUTURE, Torrio has created a musical diary of sorts; the album is honest and personal and it touches on matters close to the heart.
His new single 'Windy City Streets' is already building up momentum on college radio and mixshows in Chicago as well as in New York, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. Additionally the single is charting on several record pool charts including the UMA record pool where the single is at #2 for the 3rd straight week.
Equally important, this gifted rapper/activist is using his musical talents to positively impact the lives of inner city youth.
Torrio Jetson is a community activist for a non-for profit community organization called the Black Star Project. As a community activist, he travels to numerous Chicago public schools and conducts student motivation programs, whereby he speaks to kids about the history of Black music in American culture. Torrio stresses the importance of an education and staying away from the negativity of the streets. He also performs for the students and talks about music video production. To date, Torrio Jetson has been to 70 schools and has spoken to over 15,000 kids over the past three years.
Additionally, Torrio Jetson is a talented videographer. In fact, he conceptualized, filmed and directed the video for "Windy City Streets". The video played a major role in obtaining a $20,000 grant for a Chicago after school video production program. The purpose of the program is to show children how to create movie,commercial, and video production.
Identifying mix tapes and digital technology as influential and impacting mediums in the urban music market, Torrio Jetson has reinvented both the audio and visual experience with his 3-D videos.
Torrio Jetson is the first male Hip-Hop artist to create a music video with 3-D visual capability. Watching Torrio's "My Turn" video is a fun and exciting 3-D experience.
Torrio states that he has high expectations of every youth in which he comes into contact with to understand the greatness which they pocess.
