NBC’S “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE” RETURNS ON SEPTEMBER 13 WITH OLYMPIC PHENOMENON MICHAEL PHELPS & MUSICAL GUEST LIL WAYNE

New York, NY – August 27, 2008 – "Saturday Night Live" makes its 34th season premiere on Saturday, September 13 featuring two of the biggest names of the summer – Michael Phelps and hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne. US Olympic swimming phenomenon Michael Phelps will make his acting debut hosting the season premiere hot off his record-shattering performance in Beijing. The SNL season premiere kicks off four live shows in a row, a rare practice that generated momentum for the show this past spring when the show returned after the WGA Strike-imposed hiatus.  All told, seven all-new SNL’s will air on Saturdays prior to the election.

Phelps went a perfect 8-for-8 in Beijing, breaking Mark Spitz’s single-Games record for most gold medals won.  In addition, Phelps broke another Olympics record, becoming the most decorated Olympian in history, winning a stunning 14 career gold medals.  Phelps currently holds seven world records in swimming.

Unprecedented millions tuned in to watch Phelps in action, from the US Swim Team’s explosive victory over the French in the 4x100m freestyle relay, by just .08 of a second; to Phelps’ record-demolishing performance in the 4x200m freestyle relay breaking the record by more than four seconds and his seventh gold medal win, beating Serbia’s Milorad Cavic by the slimmest and most dramatic margin imaginable – one-one-hundredth of a second. Joining Phelps and also making his SNL debut is hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne. Not only one of the best rappers of his generation, Lil Wayne is arguably the biggest story in music for 2008.  His sixth album "Tha Carter III" sold over 1 million copies in its first week of release, a feat not achieved since 2005′s "The Massacre" by 50 Cent.  "Tha Carter III" has blazed up the singles charts as well with three top-five singles in "Lollipop," "A Milli" and "Got Money."  In addition to the platinum debut numbers for the CD, Wayne is a tireless performer so prolific that in 2007, Vibe magazine ranked and graded songs to which Wayne contributed and the list was 77 songs long.  Wayne is a constant presence on the internet, releasing his own mixtapes for free on a regular basis.  He has been one of GQ’s "Men of the Year" for 2007 and was named the "Best Rock Star Alive" by Blender magazine (2008).  Rolling Stone may have said it best: "The self-proclaimed greatest rapper proves he wasn’t kidding."

In addition to the revved-up Saturday schedule, "SNL" is ready for primetime with "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday."  Three LIVE primetime half-hours beginning October 9 at 9:30pm ET.  These primetime special editions will be anchored by the show’s signature "Weekend Update."  This marks a return to the NBC Thursday night lineup for "SNL," which produced similar live "Update"-centered broadcasts in 2001. "Saturday Night Live" is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video.  The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.  Steve Higgins produces.  Marci Klein and Mike Shoemaker are producers.  Seth Meyers is head writer.  Don Roy King directs.

HARLEM RAPPER E-SHY FOLLOWS WIDELY VIEWED OBAMA DISS VIDEO WITH RELEASE OF DEBUT MIXTAPE

"Why So Serious" hosted by DJ KaySlay redefines the conventional mixtape

New York, NY (August 28, 2008) – If controversial lyrics were a sport at this years Olympics, then Jewish rapper E-Shy would have definitely taken home the gold medal. As the author of hot topic and equally debatable raps such as "Blacks and Jews" and "Obama Diss", the Harlem born and raised MC takes his message to the streets with the DJ Kayslay mixtape, "Why So Serious", that debuted Tuesday, August 26th to much anticipation.

The mixtape is sure to be regarded as a cinematic and musical saga that fearlessly melds together an entertaining compilation of classic hip-hop beats as well as new records to include the recently leaked single "Paper Bag." The controversial track is one that E-Shy knows will be a catalyst for conversation and dispute among many groups. "Paper Bag is sure to spark some controversy with women’s organizations for its reference to placing a paper bag over the heads of females with attractive bodies and less then attractive facial features," says E-Shy. "There are times when I like to write about things that people think about on a daily basis but are too afraid to say. This record just so happens to be a manifestation of one of those times" says the rarely apologetic MC.

With the industry co-sign of hip hop veteran, DJ Kayslay, the "Why So Serious" mixtape is sure to extend the buzz created by the April 2008 issue of The Source Magazine in which E-Shy was featured in the highly coveted Unsigned Hype column where he was described as being, "a dope lyricist with an infectious flow who also happens to be white."

As E-Shy explains, "Why So Serious is in a sense a tribute to the Joker in the Batman film, The Dark Knight and the character’s interpretation of the Chaos Theory, his art of disruption.  Hip-hop has become watered down and way too serious from my perspective. Things need to lighten up a bit and the entertaining side of the art-form needs to make a comeback. I have nothing but respect for Kayslay and his history in the game and hope that this mixtape is enjoyed by all who get a chance to hear it in its entirety, and understand that it is meant to entertain and for people to ask themselves, why so serious?"

E-Shy will release his debut album, "Misfit", this fall.

Award-Winning Romantic Comedy Short “Akira’s Hip Hop Shop” Premieres Online and on DVD

Short film about a Black-Asian interracial couple starring James Kyson Lee ("Heroes") and Emayatzy Corinealdi ("The Young & The Restless") premieres on the internet and DVD.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2008 — "Akira’s Hip Hop Shop", the award-winning short film written and directed by Joe Doughrity, is currently premiering on the Internet as part of the 5th Annual Con-Can International Film Festival. An audience-interactive online short movie festival which aims to discover hidden creative talent from all over the world, the Con-Can winners receive cash prizes and meetings with Japanese film executives in Japan.

"Akira’s Hip Hop Shop" is an interracial romantic comedy about a Japanese guy with a Jones for rap music who falls in love with a Black girl with a passion for culinary arts. Can they overcome prejudice from family, friends and society to find true love? The 22-minute "film festival cut" can be streamed for free during the month of August. The direct link is: http://en.con-can.com/watch/preview.php?id=20081206 For more information on the Con-Can movie festival please visit: http://en.con-can.com

"I’m happy the film is being seen by so many people," gushed Doughrity. "A worldwide audience is exciting and a bit intimidating. I’ve gotten comments from people in Japan, Korea and France so far. It seems like with a mixed race man running for President of the United States, people are more accepting of interracial themes right now."

On September 14th, Writer/Director Joe Doughrity and star James Kyson Lee, one of the stars of the NBC series "Heroes", will appear at the Los Angeles Comic-book and Science Fiction convention at the Shrine auditorium to promote the DVD release of the film. The DVD includes the online cut as well as the 37-minute Director’s Cut and bonus features. The Director’s Cut won the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Best Director student film award in 2007 and has been featured at film festivals throughout the country. The release date for the DVD is September 16th. The film will be available exclusively from the films’ website www.akirashiphopshop.com and retail for $9.95 plus shipping.

Doughrity hopes to expand the short into a feature in 2009 following on the heels of short films such as "Eve’s Bayou", "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Sling Blade." "I hope people watch and take the time to vote. Fans of Heroes, fans of hip hop and people who like a good love story. My ultimate goal is to expand Akira and Daphne’s story to a full length feature film."

Joe Doughrity’s first film was the documentary "Seven Days in Japan" which won Best Documentary at the 2005 San Diego Comic-con Film Festival and went on to air on the BET network. He’s worked as a screenwriter and editor for many years in Hollywood, but only recently began making his own films. "Akira’s Hip Hop Shop" also stars Emayatzy Corinealdi ("The Young & The Restless") and Cordele Taylor ("Epic Movie"). Voting for the Con-Can contest ends August 31st, 2008.
