About Kenny Kingpin A/K/A Poppa L.Q.

This 29 year old South Central native made his debut under the alias, Laquan, and released his first album, Notes of a Native Son, under Island Records. His second album, Your Entertainment, My Reality landed him a deal with Rap-A-Lot Records West (Virgin) under the new alias, Poppa L.Q. Your Entertainment, My Reality debuted to rave reviews making Billboard’s top 100. The song, "Why Hate Me," an instant hit, helped build his following in underground Hip Hop. Breaking down barriers with his first two albums, Poppa L.Q. (Kenny Kingpin) teamed up with The Luniz, Mad Max, and Phat Bossi on the street anthem, "Killaz on the Payroll," which was on The Luniz second album, Lunitik Muzik. This collaboration lead to the forming of "The Regime," founded by Yukmouth, Poppa L.Q.(Kenny Kingpin), Dru Down, Gonzone, Tech9, Mad Maxx, and Phat Bossi.

His collaboration with Cool Nutz on a track called, "Harsh Game for the People," bought more success. The project led to the creation of the group D.B.A (Doing Business As…) with Cool Nutz and producer Bosko. The group signed with Universal and released, "The Album," making noise with the hit track, "Fa Shiesty Cats," featuring Kurupt and WC. Other artist, such as, E-40, B.G, AMG, and Ras Kass were also featured on the album. D.B.A.’s success was diminished due to the incarceration of Poppa L.Q. (Kenny Kingpin) at the end of 2000.

During his incarceration a pre-recorded collaboration with fellow Regime member, Yukmouth, "Regime Killers 2001," was released on Yukmouth’s, Thug Lord: New Testament album. This was a follow-up to the underground anthem, "Killers on the Payroll." Later that year, Poppa L.Q. (Kenny Kingpin) appeared on another pre-recorded track, "Lost Angels in the Sky," with Kokane. The track was later featured on the, Bones Soundtrack, a Snoop Dogg Record/Soundtrack.

In February 2003, Poppa L.Q. was released (after a 20 month stint in the Federal Penitentiary) and decided to go back to his roots. With his new beginning came his new alias, Kenny Kingpin, given to him by legendary artist, "The King of Slang," E-40. He teamed up with Yukmouth and The Regime once again on two mixtapes, All Out War, Vol.1 and Vol.2. Kenny Kingpin opened eyes and ears with his songs, "Turn It Up," produced by Hi-Tek, "I’m Bigger Than That," off vol.1, and "Datz Da Bizznezz," off the vol.2 album. Kenny Kingpin also hooked-up with his old group D.B.A and did the song, "Walktadis," which made the album E-40 and Bosko Presents: "That Fire. "Kenny Kingpin" (formally known as Poppa L.Q.) is ready to resurrect West Coast Rap.

Ludacris Gets an Earful From WomenCount

Group demands apology from artist and immediate action from Party leaders

SAN FRANCISCO, July 30 /PRNewswire/ — Responding to news that rap artist Ludacris released a song today in which he calls Hillary Clinton an "irrelevant bitch," WomenCount is calling for an apology as well as a blanket condemnation by the Party leadership.

In his song entitled "Politics," Ludacris calls Hillary Clinton an "irrelevant bitch" and also attacks President Bush and Sen. McCain. These lyrics are outrageous, offensive, and unacceptable.

In an e-mail this afternoon to its membership, WomenCount states, "It is another example of hateful, sexist language being used on the campaign trail, and now is our moment to make it clear: not on our watch! The leadership of both parties must step up to condemn such hateful speech and demand apologies. The Obama campaign has criticized the lyrics, but we call on the presumptive party nominee, who is the celebrated subject of the new song, to go even further: Publicly condemn the song. Demand an apology on behalf of the targets. Now."

"This is not an issue of being PC," states Rosemary Camposano, communications director for WomenCount, "This is about beginning the grinding and painful process of rooting out this kind of hate language and behavior whenever and wherever it exists. The Democratic leadership have pledged to unhinge our nation from gender-bias, hate-language and misogyny and we are taking them at their word."

WomenCount (http://www.womencountpac.com/) has embarked on a campaign called "Stop the Silence," in which they are promoting specific language be incorporated into the National Platform now being drafted for the Democratic National Convention. Through an e-mail petition campaign, driving content on the blogs, and direct contact with the Democratic Leadership, WomenCount is applying pressure to begin eliminating gender bias in the media and wherever it exists by condemning it "on the spot" going forward.

WomenCount PAC was created to ensure that the 51 percent of American citizens who are women have their values and votes counted in the political process. So far in the 2008 election cycle, WomenCount has run a series of ads related to the presidential campaign and made contributions to several women candidates for Congress.

Contributions to WomenCount PAC are not tax-deductible. Contributions will be used in federal elections, and are subject to federal law regarding prohibited sources and limits. Contributions to WomenCount PAC are limited to $5,000 per calendar year and contributions from corporations and labor unions are prohibited. Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year.

Double 0 of Kidz In The Hall badly assaulted by security after performance; Management issues statement

Double O from the hip hop group Kidz In The Hall was assaulted by several bouncers early Saturday morning, July 26, while inside a nightclub in Tempe, AZ following a Kidz In The Hall performance. Group member and friend Naledge, who did not witness the assault on Double O, was arrested outside of the club. Naledge’s attempt to get medical assistance for Double O was misconstrued as a hinderence to the investigation. Reports that no injuries were sustained are false as Double O was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries from the excessive force used by club security. On Sunday morning Double O underwent surgery for one of his injuries. He is still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

In the last 2 years, Kidz In The Hall have traveled to over 10 countries, have done 200+ shows and never before been involved in any altercation, big or small,  with club or concert security, or police officers.

DJ REVOLUTION “KING OF THE DECKS” ALBUM IN STORES SEPTEMBER 16th ON DUCK DOWN RECORDS

FEATURING TRACKS FROM KRS-ONE, BISHOP LAMONT, CROOKED I, JOELL ORTIZ, SEAN PRICE, DJ QBERT, BOOT CAMP CLIK, JAZZY JEFF, EVIDENCE, GUILTY SIMPSON, ROYCE DA 5’9, SPECIAL TEAMZ, DEFARI, TERMANOLOGY, TASH, RAKAA IRISCIENCE, BUMPY KNUCKLES, BLAQ POET, STRONG ARM STEADY, PLANET ASIA , DJ PREMIER

July 30th, 2008

DJ Revolution said it best in a recent interview, "the connection between the DJ and the emcee has been severed. "King of The Decks" is my attempt at reconnecting it." DJ Revolution did just that with his new album, as he brought together some of the most talented names in Hip Hop today, who not only produce quality music, but also respect the craft of the DJ Culture.

DJ Revolution has spent 15 years perfecting that craft on the SP 1200. He’s currently behind the wheels of the longest running Hip Hop show in the history of commercial radio, "THE WORLD FAMOUS WAKE UP SHOW alongside Sway & King Tech.

Aside from his weekly duties on the show based out of LA on Power 106, and syndicated Worldwide, he has lent his now infamous scratch techniques to countless records and his production skills to many established artists. REV has also taken his skillz to the far corners as the globe and ripped clubs in locations such as Japan , Europe, Australia and New Zealand . He has also shared the stage DJ’ing for many artists including legends like Rakim all the way to current superstars such as Kanye West. Revolution has released two of his own Full length LP’s ("In 12′s we trust/R2K") and one with his partners Sway & Tech ("This or That").

As DJ Revolution readies "KING OF THE DECKS," in stores on September 16th, he divulged further on the issues of the lack of communication between the MC and THE DJ stating that it "is one of the most obvious reasons Hip Hop has devolved so drastically over the years. Since MC’s in general decided to toss aside the DJ as an asset and integral part of their success from production to performance, the music has suffered tremendously.  My goal is to re-introduce to the world what a DJ is. He or She is not just a celebrity, or someone who plays records, or makes funny sounds with turntables. He or she is all of that and more. I recruited some of the most legendary and also most talented up and coming artists to help me express all of this within the context of the music.  The title of the album is by no means a way of saying I’m the best on the turntables. "King of the Decks" is obviously just a play on words related to a deck of cards. However, it is also a statement that needs to be remembered. The DJ is King."

20 YEARS AND STILL PUSHIN’ FORWARD: JAZZMYNE PUBLIC RELATIONS CELEBRATES THE HISTORY

August 2008

Los Angeles, CA – Hundreds of clients have benefited from the magic touch of Jazzmyne Public Relations in the past two decades.  A-list celebrities, athletes, authors, filmmakers, music producers, rappers, special events and businesses alike have received not only expert publicity service, management and consulting but a caring ear and kind heart from agency head, Makeda Smith.  Now celebrating 20 years in business, Makeda is still proudly and diligently pushing forward.

Makeda’s personalized approach to the vast and hectic world of entertainment public relations has proven not only successful but also solid. A home-based operation, Jazzmyne has consistently boasted a client base that competes with the majors.  Past celebrity accounts have included Kevin Eubanks, Jamie Foxx, Nick Van Excel, Mo’Nique, Dorien Wilson, and J. Anthony Brown to name a few.

"I remember when I launched my agency.  The naysayers informed me that a home based business would never be perceived as legitimate.  Well not only have I been home based for the past 20 years, but now, home based operations are the current trend.  They also told me I would not survive serving a Black clientele and urban base.  Today I’m perceived as an expert in the urban arena."

It was 1988 when Gwendolyn "Makeda" Smith resigned her position as Associate Director of West Coast Publicity at Hervey & Company, a public relations firm headed by industry veteran, Ramon Hervey. With no savings or financial backing, it was a single press release that launched her firm, Jazzmyne Public Relations, named for her oldest daughter.

"My biggest surprise has been the emails and phone calls I’ve been blessed to receive throughout the years from the women I have inspired.  As a Black, single mother of two, I started out as a welfare mom.  My motivation and success has unwittingly inspired so many women, and that just truly overwhelms me sometimes.  You never know who is watching, whose heart you are touching.  Always carry yourself like God/Goddess is watching, and the rest will eventually fall into place," she advises.

Specializing in publicity, branding, consulting and management, Jazzmyne Public Relations can be found on the web at www.jazzmynepr.com.
