Independent Artists Defy Laws Governed by Traditional Music Industry

Dopetracks.com, the top rated musically influenced social network, is redefining the creation and dissemination of music with the launch of the "Dopetracks All-Stars Mixtape."

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2008 -- The online music website Dopetracks.com, celebrating its one-year anniversary on April 3rd, 2008, has combined skilled vocalists with trendsetting beatmakers to create The Dopetracks All-Stars Mixtape, all from the talent within their community including iconic emcee Chali 2na.

The four chosen emcees won a month long online competition, battling hundreds of up and coming rappers using recording technology developed by Dopetracks.com. In addition to being pushed to the top by over forty thousand community comrades, from fellow musicians to music fans, these four artists also needed to impress the celebrity judging panel of hip-hop legend MC Lyte, Bay Area's Mistah FAB, Wordsworth, and Jurassic Five's Chali 2na. After being selected as the winners, they were flown to Los Angeles to lay down vocals at an established industry recording facility Fonogenic Studios with producers Ran Pink and Frank Ned of the Joint Committee. While in the entertainment capital of the world, the four All-Stars learned about all aspects of being professional artists, from recording to interviews to photo shoots to club appearances, with video cameras in their faces to capture every moment.

Originally brought in as a contest judge and mentor, Chali 2na heard some of the rough tracks that were being recorded and immediately asked the mixtape producers if he could lend some vocals. He was impressed by the winning emcees - Murdoc of Orlando, Florida, Don Da Dopeman of Chicago, Illinois, Gripmane of Lancaster, South Carolina and InPHYnit who resides in Seattle, Washington.

"Everybody has their own character, or something about them that stands out from everybody else. But it's still not a thing that's gimmicky, you know what I mean. It seems like everybody is coming from an authentic place. That, plus their tremendous skill, is why we chose them," said Chali.

Dopetracks thinks working with the legend has been mutually beneficial. "I could definitely sense from Chali that, you know, when he met these guys and he heard them, he really respected them," said Tal Pink, Dopetracks co-founder. "It's just great, I mean, to have Chali's voice on there, it's more than just icing, you know, it really represents his connection with them."

The Dopetracks Mixtape, which ultimately was derived from thousands of collaborations between users, is just a small example of how technology and talent are continuously moving forward together. It has become evident that the independent artist and companies that promote independent talent have found a home in today's internet. As a result of their dominant reach and ungoverned existence, aspiring artists are flocking to social networks for self-publicity and a chance for their talent to be heard and appreciated. And music fans are visiting to listen to the all of the fresh content being produced.

The mixtape winners' experience in Los Angeles can be seen in a series of eight webisodes produced by Projektor Creative and narrated by Chali 2na. Projektor's partners' credits include work on Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter", MTV's "Living Lahaina", "MADD TV" and "The Eddie Griffin Show".

The Dopetracks All-Stars Mixtape tracks are available for download on Dopetracks.com and CDs will be shipped by the end of March. To watch all eight webisodes or for more mixtape info, visit Dopetracks.com/mixtape.
