New York, NY- March 10, 2008
DJ MIXX is no stranger to this country’s Hip Hop landscape. Hailing from Miami-Dade County, Florida, he is now taking NYC by storm.
Beginning at 13 years old playing at South Florida ice arenas/teen clubs, Mixx honed his craft to prepare for an early entry into the world-famous South Beach only 3 years later. With his unique musical arrangements, he dominated the renowned Club Level, Key Biscayne’s Mad House, Coconut Grove’s The Loft, among others. Shortly after, this rising star was added as a tour DJ for Elektra Records’ ICONZ ("Get F*&cked Up"), and began to play at more exclusive celebrity functions such as Wyclef Jean’s Memorial Day Pool Party. Once done with high school, however, Mixx left Miami and set out for NYC in order to pursue further education.
After re-establishing, he’s proven that there’s not a corner you can turn without hearing his name. One by one Mixx began to leave his mark on New York’s most famous venues (Lotus, The Plumm, Duvet, Sol, Blvd./Crash Mansion, Strata, Myst/Retox, Mars 2112, S.O.B.’s, Stereo, and Avalon to name a few). Gaining momentum in the clubs, he’s landed events playing for several different celebrities. Whether it be in the Hamptons with Mims, Mario, Swizz Beatz, and Collie Buddz, or at launch parties with Wyclef Jean, Sizzla, and Cheri Dennis, his distinct energy is slowly becoming the choice of the stars. Playing NYE ’08 with pro-surfer Trip Patterson, Mixx’s sounds even call to those outside of the recording industry…expansion’s inevitable.
He’s also found a way to utilize his passions for music as a platform to give back. Founder of a university-affiliated philanthropic organization called Headz United, his team has raised funds for various charities through large nightclub-style benefits. He’s also helped spearhead entertainment initiatives for University of Miami’s "Gettin’ Busy" campaign, promoting AIDS/HIV awareness to urban teens/young adults (inspiring various certificates of recognition from the Mayor and the City). Once in New York, he immediately became an associate DJ for LifeBeat, an organization mobilizing the music industry to advocate for HIV/Aids awareness. Additionally, Mixx has played for Revlon’s Seventh Annual Run/Walk for Women held in Times Square.
An NYU English minor, Mixx has worked as a columnist for BLOW! Magazine and a contributing editor for H.E.R. (a high end lifestyles website), adding his unique flavors in music’s literary realm as an interesting compliment to his experience as a performer. Taking note of his unique look and personality, he’s been courted on numerous occasions to begin a parallel career in fashion/modeling. Now involved in this arena, he’s featured as a runway model at the launch party for Giorgio & Amber Premium Denim, among artists including R&B singer Joe, and Hot 97′s own, DJ Jazzy Joyce.
Initiating his plans to "hold the city hostage," bringing his Miami style to his more recent, New York City surround, DJ MIXX has already proven his ability to capitalize innovatively on opportunities presented in both Miami and New York. "Straddling the two cities constantly keeps me abreast of developments in the capitals of East Coast and to an extent, global trend-setting. I will continue to impact both markets, and continue to raise the premiums on nightlife/urban music, in general."
