DETROIT, MICHIGAN - Damon Dash has conquered the worlds of music, fashion, and film and now he is announcing the launch of BlockSavvy.com, The Virtual Lifestyle Community and interactive ad agency for the Next Generation at the 12th Annual 2008 Urban Wheel Awards (UWA). Dash will present at the multicultural event that will honor the achievements of African-Americans, Asians and Latinos in the automotive industries on January 15th at the famed Fox Theatre in Detroit. He joins an incredible lineup of celebrity presenters, which include James Kyson Lee, co-star of the NBC hit television series "Heroes," award-winning actor Giancarlo Esposito , actress Lisa Vidal, super male model Tyson Beckford, MTV's Sway, hip hop icon Funkmaster Flex, and Miss Universe Riyo Mori. Oscar-nominated actress Rosie Perez and Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier will co-host the UWA.
The 2008 UWA's theme of "Fashion, Stars & Cars" is a perfect fit for Dash, who co-founded one of the most successful urban clothing lines ever, Rocawear. He also co-founded the hit-making record label Roc-A-Fella Records, and went on to produce a number of films and form Dash Films. Most recently Dash started his own clothing venture, CEO, and the groundbreaking Internet community called BlockSavvy.com. BlockSavvy.com, the new social online community, has also created an innovative way of digital advertising. The new digital advertising model by BlockSavvy.com is the ultimate way to cross-platform marketing. BlockSavvy.com offers a total interactive experience for consumers where advertisers can reach their target market in a unique manner.
BlockSavvy.com is already taking the Internet by storm—and turning the advertising world on its head. BlockSavvy.com, one of the most-visited communities on the Web, is now the place to connect, play, explore, discover and mass market. Established by Rocawear founders and former executives Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke, BlockSavvy.com is a joint venture with online entrepreneur Kwame DeCuir. Centered on users creating a complete virtual lifestyle, BlockSavvy.com allows members to organize their own trendy neighborhoods, buy stylish living spaces, socialize with one another, upload personal videos, and purchase virtual branded goods via a reward-based economy called SavvyDollars. Residents can also take their self-created living spaces with them as a widget and embed it into other popular websites and blogs, such as MySpace, Xanga, and Blogger. This unique formula also allows advertisers to create movable mobile marketing campaigns that allow them to interact with consumers in brand new ways.
Married to fashion designer Rachel Roy, Dash has also ventured into other business arenas, including publishing with America Magazine, entertainment management (Dash Management), the spirits industry with the purchase of Armadale Vodka, jewelry business (Tiret Watches), and even sports (Dash/DiBella Boxing).
But it's not all business with Dash. Many of his ventures, such as BlockSavvy.com, have built-in charitable components. Dash also works with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
"Community is very important to me," says Dash. "This is one reason I wanted to take part in the Urban Wheel Awards, which not only celebrates diversity in the auto industry and recognizes the tremendous buying power of people of color, but it is also a charitable event."
Join Dash and company as they celebrate diversity at the 2008 Urban Wheel Awards, January 15, 2008.
