'Live Earth' Concerts in All 7 Continents to Reach Global Audience of Over 2 Billion

Scientist and Professor Seek Formula to Bring Real Hip-Hop Back With A Music Video For "Movement Music"

While Hip Hop has become associated with a lifestyle outside of traditional social institutions like universities, two individuals are seeking to pass a different view onto the next generation. On Friday, February 16, 2007, hip hop duo Wade Waters will be taking over Manhattan’s University Neighborhood Middle School for the day.

Wade Waters is comprised of SoulStice and Haysoos. Both artists have Masters Degrees. Haysoos is a Professor in African American Studies at the University of Maryland and SoulStice works as an Electrical Engineer for the Department of Defense at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. During the course of the school day, Wade Waters will be speaking with seventh and eighth graders at UNMS about topics ranging from the value of education to hip hop and the creative elements behind the process of writing a song.

The goal of the visit is to get kids motivated to use the tools provided by education in everyday life and as a way to pursue their dreams. to support a local radio show entitled "The Dirty
South Block Party with Bobo & Nem." Heard on the air
Saturday Nights from 10 pm to 12 midnight in Dallas,
the show is hosted by local music icon Bob Luchiano
and his co-host DJ Fish. Established in 1999, the show
plays predominately southern Hip-Hop especially local
music.

Bobo Luchiano as well as his brother DJ Snake and the
rap group Nemesis are credited for birthing the Dallas
Hip-Hop & Rap movement in the 1ate 80's. Nemesis'
radio show "All Hearty Def Party" was the first radio
show in Dallas that played local Hip-Hop music. Under
the production of DJ Snake, Bobo Luchiano released the
Dallas Anthem “South Dallas Drop” in 1989 and played
hype man for Texas Rap Icons UGK from 1993 to 1996
before starting “The Dirty South Block Party in 1999.

Because “The Dirty South Block Party” is broadcast on
community music station 89.3 KNON-FM, the show (as
well as the station) derives its main source of income
from on-air pledges as well as underwriting or
sponsorships by local small businesses. Because the
Metro Muzik: The Union collective believes in linking
the past & the future, Metro Muzik: The Union is
pledging $200 this Saturday to help keep the show on

NEW YORK, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In a first-of-its-kind development/production/broadcast deal, Viacom subsidiaries VH1 and BET are partnering on a one-hour pilot for the ensemble drama "Wifey," set in the world of hip hop. Under this unique arrangement, the eventual series would premiere simultaneously on both networks. Written and executive produced by Michael Elliot, the pilot will be directed by BET President of Entertainment Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers include Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Dedra Tate for Flavor Unit, Michael Hirschorn and Maggie Malina for VH1, and Hudlin and Byron Phillips for BET.

"Wifey" is centered on the newly-widowed wife of a hip-hop mogul who must reassemble her life as she takes over her late husband's record label.   1. Many Asian-American youth feel excluded and misunderstood by most
     brands. It's made worse by the fact that they see advertisers actively
     wooing the African-American and Hispanic markets.
  2. Mixed race kids are proudly identifying as Hapa, a once derogatory word
     in Hawaiian to mean "half." Hapa is also slang for marijuana in
     Japanese (spelled Happa). Hapa is supplanting terms like Amerasian,
     biracial, and blasian.
  3. Asian-American youth are secret fans of "easy listening" adult
     contemporary music. Lite FM is a hidden passion.
  4. There's a "hero gap" among Asian-American kids, which is being filled
     for many by activists from other cultures. Martin Luther King is a role
     model and hero to many young Asian-Americans.
  5. Most Asian-American kids refer to white people as "white people" the
     same way African-Americans do.
  6. Underage gambling is huge. The "new" American poker obsession is
     nothing new to Asian-American kids. Gambling has a long history in
     Asian culture. Many students Rigg spoke with are avid online gamblers
     and card players. Some organize private online poker tournaments.
  7. Asian-American kids want an end to the hyper-nerdy images of themselves
     on TV and want to see more punked-out skater and graffiti DJ images
     which reflect a different energy. The feeling is:  Enough with the math
     geeks, future doctors and violinists. Asian-American kids crave street
     credibility -- not just academic accolades.
  8. Asian-American kids universally hate the question:  Where are you from
     -- especially since the answers are usually something like
     "Westchester" or "Boston."
  9. All things Korean are hot and getting hotter. Fashion. Foods. DJs.
     Online communities. Korea is the new Japan.
  10. The 15 minutes of seemingly benign American Idol fame for William Hung
      had a surprisingly negative effect on Asian-American students. There's
      a feeling that Hung perpetuated the worst stereotypes about Asian
      people and gave non-Asians permission to indulge in two years of
      racial stereotyping and mocking.
