NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- VH1 brought down the house at the fourth annual "VH1 Hip Hop Honors," as the best of the best in hip hop royalty came together for one legendary night to honor the ones who came before them and transformed the genre into a true cultural phenomenon.

Taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, October 4th in New York City and hosted by Tracy Morgan, the music and influence of each of the honorees was recognized through performances by classic artists in collaboration with today's hottest new talent. This year, "VH1 Hip Hop Honors" paid tribute to A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliott, Fab 5 Freddy and Charlie Ahern for the film Wild Style, Teddy Riley and Andre Harrell for New Jack Swing.

The show got off to a "slick" start with the hit that jump started Missy's solo career, "The Rain," performed by R&B songstress and prodigy Tweet and long time producing cohort Timbaland. The crowd went crazy when Eve and Keyshia Cole took the stage performing the "Hot Boyz" remix which brought the crowd to their feet and led into a true hip hop medley with the legendary Fatman Scoop and Ciara with "Lose Control," and finally Nelly Furtado took the stage with her rendition of the eclectic hip hop chart topper "Get Your Freak On."

Hip hop entrepreneur and producer Diddy took the stage to introduce his mentor and big brother, Andre Harrell, giving him props for setting the stage and paving the way for him to become the artist he is today, calling him the "Berry Gordy of his time." Also paying homage to Teddy Riley, Diddy dubs him the "first dude to rock the dark shades indoors," citing him as the "original best of both worlds in hip hop & R&B" and as one of the "greatest producers of all time."

Next, in true New Jack Swing form, a medley of artists took the stage to salute the genre with the Guy banger, "I Like" performed by Ne-Yo and the Keith Sweat hit, "I Want Her" performed by T-Pain, all with the man himself, Teddy Riley on the keyboard. Kool Moe Dee took the stage, outfitted in his signature dark shades, setting it off with the New Jack Swing hit, "How You Like Me Now."

And as if that wasn't enough, Riley took the stage giving the crowd what they had been waiting for, rocking the house with the Blackstreet hit "No Diggity" and the all-time crowd-pleaser, "Rump Shaker."

Next, 2005 honoree LL Cool J took the stage to introduce the first true hip hop movie "Wildstyle," opening the stage to DJ Kool Herc and KRS-One The Teacha with their rendition of "Feel The Heartbeat."

Actor Chris Rock introduced the next honoree of the night - WHODINI - who took it way back with tributes from hip hop prodigies Nelly and Jermaine Dupri, tearing the roof off with the group's biggest hits, "One Love" and "The Freaks Come Out At Night." Topping off the performance, WHODINI broke it down true old school style reminding the crowd that they can still get down, breaking out in a medley of old school dances from the "Snake" to the "Wop!"

Taking it to the west side, VH1 paid homage to honoree Snoop Dogg. Pharrell, T.I., Ice T and Bow Wow took the stage doing it in true West coast flavor, performing hits "Drop It Like It's Hot" and "What's My Name," bringing everyone to their feet.

Bringing the show to an unforgettable end, Common, Lupe Fiasco and Busta Rhymes ripped the stage with the all-time favorites, "Bonita Applebaum," "Electric Relaxation," and the monster hit "Scenario." A Tribe Called Quest closed the show as only they could do, performing "Award Tour" and "Check The Rhyme."

READING FROM SINATRA TO SHANKAR Daughters of Music Legends Encourage Literacy with Hip-Hop Activist

Toronto -- Nancy Sinatra, daughter of American music legend Frank Sinatra, and Anoushka Shankar, daughter of India music legend Ravi Shankar, have collaborated with Canadian music personality Raoul Juneja (a.k.a. Deejay Ra) for a series of 'back to school' themed radio PSA's as part of Lyrical Knockout Entertainment's acclaimed 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign.

In support of books written by Nancy and Anoushka about their legendary fathers (titled "Frank: An American Legend" and "Bapi: The Love Of My Life" respectively), Juneja is also encouraging a variety of Sinatra and Shankar school activities, aimed at developing stronger literary and performance education of the Sinatra and Shankar legacies amongst today's music students.

Besides starring in popular 1960's films opposite co-stars such as Peter Fonda in "The Wild Angels", Nancy's "Movin' With Nancy" 1967 color TV special featuring her performances alongside Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. is widely attributed as one of the inspirations for the modern music video. In addition to Quentin Tarantino recently featuring Nancy's classic "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" song as the theme of his "Kill Bill: Volume 1" film, Grammy-nominated vocalist Nancy Sinatra performed as herself in one of the final episodes of "The Sopranos".

Only Built For Mi Gente, Shark Biters Beware!

HER STORY IS ONE OF CONTROVERSY

(October 3, 2007) Miami, FL- Triple threat 14-year old Montana Tucker, a South Florida native, is rapidly creating a buzz in the realm of hip-hop music and dance. At just 14, the performer has garnered recognition nationwide, compiling a resume comparable to those more than half her age. She has been in over 9 commercials, graced the covers of magazines and has performed at star-studded events as well as on national television. At the age of 9, Tucker was 'discovered,' by hip-hop dancer and choreographer-turned actor, Darren Henson, also best known for his role as, Lem Van Adams on the hit TV series, "Soul Food." Henson scouted Montana at one of his dance workshops in Orlando almost 6 years ago. Montana's mother Michelle Tucker is the founder and president of Pop Starz, a premier hip-hop dance studio, which has attracted some of the industry's most talented celebrity choreographers and dancers. Pop Starz is now on hold while Montana pursues her career as a dynamic hip-hop dancer and performer. Henson stated,

Recently, controversy ensued as the triple-threat surprisingly discovered her demo song, "Mile in These Shoes," being performed by Jennifer Lopez. The song was utilized for the Season 4 promotional spot for ABC hit television show, "Desperate Housewives." Despite claims that the song was penned specifically for Lopez, the song was acquired and performed for over a year by Montana Tucker.

Tucker selected, "Mile in These Shoes" from dozens of songs offered to her by Atlanta-based producer Warren "Oak" Felder, with whom she recorded "Mile in These Shoes." According to Montana's management, the song was to fit her demo package nearly a year ago and she has continued to perform the song, intending to shop her project to major record labels when she turns fifteen in January. At the time the recording was made, "Oak" was part of the production team of Grammy award winning songwriter and producer Sean Garrett which coincidently, Garrett adds his credit to Jennifer Lopez's upcoming album "BRAVE" and is alleging to have no idea that the song, "Mile in These Shoes," was originally recorded and licensed by Montana Tucker.  Management goes on to claim, "we paid the producer [Oak] a fee to record the song. By accepting the fee and producing Montana's vocal performance granted an implied license to distribute, promote and to perform the song publicly (live and recorded)."

Additionally, Montana has also trained with hip-hop choreographer, Shane Sparks ("So You Think You Can Dance" judge), Sho-tyme (Gwen Stefani's choreographer) and Chuck Maldonado (choreographer for the movie, "Stomp the Yard") and Brice Vick.  She also won the World Hip- Hop Championships where she competed with dancers from all over the world including competitors from Brazil, China, Japan, and Canada. Montana also captured first honors in Florida's "Starz of the Future," competition, while this past September won "Best Overall Performance" at B.B. Kings at Universal in Los Angeles.

Montana has been coined as a "child prodigy," and is currently working on her album and will plan to release it 2008 pending finalization of a major record deal. Piaget Fingerprint Watch Created for Ludacris to be Auctioned for Charity

Proceeds from $28,200-valued timepiece to benefit National Runaway Switchboard

CHICAGO, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Music icon Chris "Ludacris" Bridges is leaving his fingerprint on the worlds of music, film and philanthropy. Now, his fingerprint is being used in the design of a unique Swiss-made watch by Geneva-based Piaget. The Ludacris Fingerprint timepiece, valued at $28,200, will be up for auction online at the National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) Web site, http://www.1800runaway.org/, through the month of November, which is National Runaway Prevention Month.

All proceeds will benefit NRS, the federally-designated national communication system for homeless and runaway youth. In addition, Piaget has also committed to donating 10 percent of every Fingerprint watch sold between now and the end of the year to NRS.

Piaget took Ludacris' fingerprint earlier this year and shipped it to Piaget's offices in Switzerland where the piece was created. The Fingerprint watch is crafted in 18 K white gold with 78 brilliantly cut diamonds circling a 38 mm case. The watch's face is based on the distinctive pattern of whorls and swirls of the fingerprint which are set with 286 sparkling cut diamonds. The piece features a 430 P movement (the engine of the watch), one of the thinnest of its kind. Piaget is among the few Swiss manufacturers that actually produce their own movements.

The Grammy-award winner is no stranger to the runaway problem. He voiced his concern in the lyrics to his 2006 hit "Runaway Love," and helped form a partnership between his Ludacris Foundation and NRS to help raise awareness of the runaway issue.

The National Runaway Switchboard was established in 1971. With the support of more than 150 volunteers, NRS handles an average of 100,000 calls annually through its 1-800-RUNAWAY crisis hotline providing crisis intervention, referrals to local resources, and education and prevention services to youth and families throughout the country 24 hours a day.

15- Year Old Hip-Hop Star J Xavier Headlines Megafest Unplugged 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya Benefitting Educational Reform for Girls and Local Waste Management.

Houston, TX (The V Firm) October 15, 2007 – During the times where Hip Hop has come under tremendous scrutiny and criticism for its lyrics, images and depictions; it's refreshing to find someone using their power and persuasion to help shed light on world affairs. This someone happens to be 15-year old J Xavier. Crowned Hip Hop's new "Prince of the South", J Xavier will headline a benefit concert, Megafest Unplugged 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya on November 1st-7th. J Xavier will become the youngest Hip Hop star to done an international concert and in return feels it's his duty to show the positivity and influence that rappers have internationally.

J Xavier's career has skyrocketed since his 2004 debut and the 2006 release "Young Prince of Tha South" on Noo Day Entertainment/Music World Music. Currently the acting bug has bitten him as he gears up for his comedy project and prepares for his sophomore album. "Youth in other countries look-up to rappers as entertainers. They want to emulate our style, culture and dress," the eloquent 15-year old stated. "I want to do something positive to give back to their country in support."

Giving back is truly an understatement of the purpose of Megafest Unplugged's philanthropic mission. Over 5,000 attendees including the President of Kenya, Hon. Mwai Kibaki, will be present at this star studded concert orchestrated by Twelve Entertainment and Zomba Gospel Label Group. Other entertainers include Bobby Jones (BET Gospel) and Byron Cage. Broadcasted live to a nation of over 21 million listeners via Hope fm radio, the concert will serve as the platform for raising money and awareness towards the town of Kibera which has the largest slums in Africa. Funding raised from the concert will go to purchase mobile restroom facilities for the 10 million slum dwellers without and to purchase sanitary items for the young women denied schooling during menstruation. The Vice President of Kenya has dubbed this event as the bread and butter of the year as people are hopeless and the messages and musical celebration from the artists would be a timely for the disenfranchised communities.

"It is an honor to represent my country, my generation and our music in Kenya," said J Xavier. J Xavier has become a young philanthropist of his time proving yet again that Hip Hop isn't dead and its future looks better than ever.
