Lodestar Entertainment Signs with William Morris Agency to Rep Feature Film Life is Hot in Cracktown

Lodestar Entertainment announced that it has signed with William Morris Independent- a division of the William Morris Agency. William Morris Independent will represent the film Life is Hot in Cracktown.

(Beverly Hills, CA, December 26, 2007)- Co-Head of William Morris Independent Cassian Elwes will be partnering with Lodestar Entertainment producers Ten Travis, Bill Fisch and Larry Rattner on the independent feature film Life is Hot in Cracktown.

Life is Hot in Cracktown’s cast includes Brandon Routh, Shannyn Sossamon, Lara Flynn Boyle, Kerry Washington and RZA of Wu-Tang Clan. The film was directed by Buddy Giovinazzo and is based on his novel by the same name.

Life is Hot it Cracktown delves into the infiltration of crack cocaine in urban America and shows the gritty realities of street life, as well as the struggling, proud people who attempt to survive them everyday.

Highlighting four stories that come together in a climax of violence, depravity and salvation, Giovinazzo’s Life is Hot in Cracktown may elevate itself to the ranks of Robert Altman’s Short Cuts and Paul Haggis’ Crash. The film captures a realistic depiction of a modern day social epidemic- drug use and poverty.

"We are anxious to get Life is Hot in Cracktown out into the public. We are very excited about what the public response will be when they see the caliber of actors that we’ve collaborated with to create this film. It is an emotional story filled with actors who are going against their known character types," states producer Ten Travis.

About William Morris Independent:

William Morris Independent works with both U.S. and foreign distributors and financiers, bringing together co-production partners for projects the Agency then packages from its vast creative pool. In recent years, William Morris Independent has sold dozens of films on the festival market — many of them award-winners.

About Lodestar Entertainment:

Bill Fisch and Larry Rattner founded Lodestar Entertainment in 2006. They produced the independent feature film Day on Fire starring Academy Award Winner Olympia Dukakis. In 2007 Lodestar Entertainment partnered with Fitted Productions to produce Life is Hot in Cracktown. Actor and producer Ten Travis founded Fitted Productions in 2007 with the goal of producing reality based television and film. Lodestar Entertainment and Fitted Productions will continue their partnership with the upcoming production of a feature film based on Billy Wayne Sinclair’s novel, A Life in the Balance. The film will focus on Sinclair’s take on life behind bars as a jailhouse lawyer and an award winning journalist. The film is slated for production in 2008 and will be directed by David Jacobson. Jacobson directed Down in the Valley starring Edward Norton in 2005.

Real Talk For When There’s Nowhere To Go But Up

BLACK PAIN

It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting

By Terrie M. Williams

"As a young African-American male, you have to have your war face on at all times. It’s all about maintaining your swagger. Some people like to run away from the uncut truth, but BLACK PAIN is no slouch. It boldly confronts the reality of our pain head on, flowing like hot lyrics over the perfect beat."

—Sean Combs

"We’ve never had a book this personal to read that defines our feelings and helps us understand what to do to heal ourselves. I’m proud of Terrie for writing BLACK PAIN so that everyone will finally recognize depression. As she puts it, "what it looks like, what it sounds and what it feels like."

—Mary J. Blige

Terrie Williams dares you to take off your game face! As a high-powered public relations pro, Terrie has worked with some of the biggest names out there, but all the success and power and access didn’t spare her from profound emotional pain. And her own pain was too often mirrored in the lives of the hip hop and R&B artists, the producers, the dancers, and the music executives around her.

In her groundbreaking new book, BLACK PAIN: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting (Scribner; January 8, 2008; $24),Terrie takes off the mask. She peels away the game face so many of us wear, and shows us that we don’t have to hide our pain in shame. From celebrities like Mary J. Blige, DMX and Mike Tyson, Terrie talks to folks who know what it’s like to struggle to keep it together day after day, when inside they feel like they’re dying.

Before BLACK PAIN, we focused only on the symptoms of our pain: The rages, the arrests, the seesaw highs and lows. We saw every rapper on MTV Cribs build a shrine to Al Pacino’s Scarface – a man so devastated inside that even having everything isn’t close to enough. But worst of all, we’ve seen the murders, the senseless deaths, and the suicide-by-prison of our best and brightest. Our men are soldiers in an emotional war no one has named, and they are all too often fodder. They’re suffering and dying on the front lines because no one has dared to name their pain.

It’s time to open the steel door on our suffering and help each other heal. BLACK PAIN is a work no one in the entertainment industry should miss! No other book has looked so thoughtfully at how we as Black folks suffer emotionally, or in such accessible language. No other book has laid out a community crisis with such sensitivity, such empathy and such clear direction to solutions. BLACK PAIN doesn’t just talk about depression – it tells you what depression looks, sounds and feels like. The next time you see a headline screaming that a favorite recording artist has been sent to rehab, arrested, or worse…—you’ll see behind the mask of success to understand the pain that drives the self-destruction.

Terrie Williams is a woman on fire, and the fuel that keeps that fire raging is the epidemic of unacknowledged emotional pain in Black America. Depression is a catchword in the mainstream media, but among Black folks it might as well be "the D-word"—the shameful thing nobody talks about, even as it’s killing us. But Terrie Williams is not afraid to talk about what "the blues" is doing to us and our loved ones— she’s determined to get us all talking about it, and she will not rest until we can freely speak our pain without shame, and get to healing it! BLACK PAIN: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting is her opening shot in that battle. Don’t miss it!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A social worker by training, Terrie Williams launched the public relations firm, The Terrie Williams Agency, in 1988. The company quickly became one of the most successful PR firms in America, representing top names in entertainment, sports, business and politics such as Miles Davis, Johnnie Cochran, Stephen King, Eddie Murphy, HBO, and Time Warner. After surviving a profound depression, Terrie chronicled her struggle to regain her health in Essence magazine and the feedback was staggering. She continues her work with the agency and she also created the Stay Strong Foundation, which reaches out to anyone of any age suffering from mental illness. Terrie has a BA from Brandeis University and a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University. She has one grown son and lives in New York City.

Kenwood Vineyards Lounge to Debut at 40/40 Club Las Vegas

KENWOOD (SONOMA VALLEY), Calif., Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Kenwood Vineyards is set to light up Las Vegas on December 30, 2007, when hip-hop mogul Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club opens at The Palazzo, the spectacular new world-class resort on the Las Vegas Strip. Kenwood Vineyards will sponsor the star-studded Grand Opening gala at 40/40 Club Las Vegas that evening, an event that includes the debut of the winery’s namesake VIP room at the Club — the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge.

The new $20 million 40/40 Club Las Vegas is the third location of Jay-Z’s renowned upscale sports bar and lounge, following in the footsteps of his highly successful 40/40 Clubs in New York and Atlantic City. The multi-level venue features 85 plasma screen televisions, five bars serving "top-shelf" wines and libations, and leather couch seating for ultimate sports enjoyment, plus a luxurious dining area offering all-American fare with a Latin accent and five VIP rooms — including the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge — for private events.

The Kenwood Vineyards-sponsored 40/40 Club Las Vegas Grand Opening gala will be an opulent affair. A throng of "A-List" celebrities will walk the red carpet in front of fans and the press before heading inside for an evening to include a welcome and ceremonial ribbon-cutting by Jay-Z, dancing to live celebrity DJs and a midnight toast. A one-hour television special, "Live on the Red Carpet at the 40/40 Club Las Vegas Grand Opening," is scheduled to air on "Extra" and "E!".

The Kenwood Vineyards Lounge promises to be the most popular VIP room at 40/40 Club Las Vegas. Literally a "club within a club," the intimate Kenwood Vineyards Lounge — which can accommodate only 70 guests — blends wine country accents with leather wrap around couches, hardwood floors, wood paneled walls, a sunken living room and an 8-foot pool table. This private space also is equipped with two 65-inch plasma screen televisions, an independent sound system, wireless internet access, Xbox, Playstation, chess boards and a complementary Ms. Pacman arcade game. One of the Kenwood Vineyard Lounge’s most distinctive amenities is a private outdoor terrace, with views of the famed Las Vegas Strip and the Las Vegas fireworks. Befitting a private, "by reservation only" lounge, VIP servers assigned exclusively to the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge will take care of guests’ food and beverage needs. A superb selection of premium Kenwood Vineyards Sonoma County wines will be available in the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge by the glass and by the bottle.

The new club is located in The Palazzo, a 50-floor all-suites hotel-casino-resort that takes Las Vegas luxury, sophistication and contemporary chic to new heights. Situated adjacent to The Venetian and across the street from the Wynn Las Vegas, the Palazzo is situated at the center of Las Vegas excitement. The Palazzo is scheduled to open on December 20, 2007.

Established in 1970 in the Sonoma Valley, Kenwood Vineyards produces premium wines that showcase Sonoma County’s world class vineyards.

Celebrate responsibly.

Driven by Music, MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com Deliver 1.2 Billion Video Streams in 2007

Women Ruled, Country Crossed Over and VMA Artists Rocked in MTV Networks Music Group’s Top 30 Most-Streamed Music Videos of 2007

NEW YORK, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Driven by music, MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com video streams topped more than 1.2 billion in 2007, 30 percent more than 2006 — an all-time record for the collective brands within MTV Networks’ Music Group, which now attracts nearly 30 million unique visitors every month. Music videos accounted for nearly half of the streams, as viewers sought out their favorite artists and discovered new ones from a cross-section of genres, including pop and hip hop, country and rock. Music videos also drove MTV Mobile, VH1 Mobile and CMT Mobile into triple-digit growth in 2007. In fact, music videos accounted for every single one of the top 10 most-streamed videos on the three services.

"Music was at the core of everything we did in 2007," said Van Toffler, President of MTV Networks’ Music Group. "And, once again, MTV, VH1 and CMT produced the year’s most memorable events in music."

In the first-ever ranking of the 30 most-popular music videos streamed on MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com, women ruled, country crossed over and VMA artists tore it up in 2007. Female acts dominated the year-end chart, accounting for eight of the Top 10 songs. Britney Spears took the trophy for the most-streamed video with her live performance of "Gimme More" during the 2007 Video Music Awards. Avril Lavigne came in second with "Girlfriend" and Rihanna, another VMA performer, came in third with "Umbrella." Fergie placed three singles in the Top 10 alone — "Glamorous" (#4), "Big Girls Don’t Cry" (#5) and "Fergalicious" (#7) — and was the artist with the most appearances on the chart.

New artists like Paramore — a band that gained notoriety through MTV’s 52/52 initiative — stormed this year’s chart with "Misery Business" at #22. The Plain White T’s, which earned the "Breaking Woodie" at the 2006 mtvU Woodie Awards, lived up to the their expectations in 2007, claiming the #27 spot with their smash "Hey There Delilah." And throughout the year, VH1′s "You Oughta Know" franchise made artists such as Feist and Colbie Caillat household names.

The year’s biggest crossover hit belonged to Carrie Underwood, a fixture on CMT. Her signature smash, "Before He Cheats," landed at #15.

MTV’s VMAs, VH1′s Hip Hop Honors and CMT’s Music Awards inspired viewers to go online and see their favorite artists. At MTV’s VMA’s Chris Brown solidified his place in music with Michael Jackson-esque moves. VH1′s Hip Hop Honors, the most important event in the hip-hop community, this year celebrated the works of Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliot and others. And CMT’s Music Awards saw Sugarland and Bon Jovi deliver stirring performances.

On Mobile

Soulja Boy’s "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)" was the most-streamed video on both MTV Mobile and VH1 Mobile. Sugarland’s "Stay," which the group performed live during the CMT Music Awards, clinched the top spot on CMT Mobile. MTV Mobile streams grew 90 percent over 2006, while VH1 streams grew by 100 percent and CMT recorded a 252 percent surge.

Curated music programming also performed well. MTV Mobile’s most-viewed show content was the original made-for-mobile series, Dances From the Hood. VH1 launched "Pop Up Mobile to Go," a made-for-mobile version of the hugely popular VH1 series, featuring music videos from Janet Jackson, the Beastie Boys, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Nelly. And MTV Tr3s Mobile, introduced this year, has grown 65 percent every month since March, making it the fastest- growing mobile brand ever in the MTVN portfolio.

Throughout the year, MTV, VH1 and CMT also introduced new experiences to drive deeper engagement with music.

   – At MTV.com, viewers used the new Video Remixer to create more than
8,200 remixes of Britney Spears’ latest single, "Piece of Me."
Throughout the year, viewers could also remix videos from Kelly
Clarkson, Common, Nelly Furtado and Paramore.

   – MTVN in 2007 also was the first media/entertainment company to begin
threading lyrics throughout its programming on all platforms,
beginning with MTV.com. Viewers who search for lyrics on MTV.com,
VH1.com, or CMT.com will get the full lyrics, as well as links to
music videos, links to purchase the song, and comprehensive artist
information, such as bios and discographies.

   – VH1Classic.com, which re-launched in May with an on-demand library of
thousands of classic music videos, has seen time spent surge by 30
percent. VH1Classic.com was just one of a dozen new vertical Web sites
and blogs launched by the Music Group in 2007.

Here are the top 30 most-streamed videos across MTVN Music Group’s MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com.

What Do Anna Nicole Smith and Jerry Falwell Have in Common . . . at Year-end?

Online Guest Books for both attracted thousands of remembrances, putting them on Legacy.com’s Top 25 Most-Eulogized People Online for 2007

EVANSTON, Ill., Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Former Playboy playmate and E! reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith and televangelist and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell had little in common in life, but they share a distinction in death.

Ditto for Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor and former first lady Lady Bird Johnson.

Smith, Falwell, Taylor and Johnson, who all died in 2007, attracted so many individual remembrances and condolences in their online Guest Books on memorialization Web site Legacy.com (http://www.legacy.com/) that they made the site’s list "2007′s Top 25 Most-Eulogized People Online."

The victims of the April 16, 2007, shootings at Virginia Polytechnic Institute top the 2007 list; almost 43,000 condolences and remembrances have been offered (through Dec. 11) in the Legacy.com Guest Book for the 28 students and four faculty members gunned down by a troubled student. Second on the list is John Winter, a popular Orlando TV station meteorologist, who committed suicide.

"One of the most striking aspects of the lists is that they blend the slightly gossipy appeal of guest books for celebrities with the very personal, almost religious and familial aspect of remembering more ordinary people," said Professor Toby Miller, chair of media and cultural studies at the University of California, Riverside, who reviewed the lists at the request of Legacy.com. "The Guest Books commemorate the famous, but also make renowned the suffering of those who aren’t famous."

Labeled the "granddaddy" of online obituary and memorialization sites by MarketWatch, Legacy.com hosts obituaries and memorials for more than 60 percent of the people who die in the United States and attracts more than 10 million unique visitors each month.

The Web site has largely been responsible for popularizing the online Guest Book, taking it from a novelty a few years ago to a widely accepted way to remember loved ones and offer condolences to families. The site today fields more than 23,000 Guest Book entries daily — or one every 2.5 seconds — for ordinary people remembered by families and friends, celebrities, pro sports stars and individuals thrust into the limelight by the circumstances of their deaths.

All of the more than 20 million Guest Book entries on Legacy.com have been reviewed for appropriate content before being posted online, using a process that combines artificial intelligence and editorial review.

Below are Legacy.com’s 2007 Top 25 Most Eulogized People Online and All-Time Top 25 Most Eulogized People Online, based on number of entries through Dec. 11, 2007. All of these Guest Books are open and continue to accept entries from anyone who would like to remember the individuals. Black Wall Street’s Head Producer, Nu Jerzey Devil, Sets to Take Over 2008

December 2007

Miami, FL December 21, 2007 — The new year looks bright for west coast hip hop led by non other than The Game’s camp, Black Wall Street. The head producer of Black Wall Street, Nu Jerzey Devil is set to make 2008 a year to remember. Anthony Torres aka "Nu Jerzey Devil" is currently in the studio working on albums for Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, The Game, and also a solo project.

Early 2008 will feature The Black Wall Street Compilation album that is sure to bring west coast hip hop back to the forefront of rap. With production for the heavily anticipated album from The Game and an eager freshman release from the prince of the west coast, Juice, Nu Jerzey Devil seems to have his hands full.

Nu Jerzey Devil is also currently finishing up the final touches to his new mixtape, Soundz From Tha Devil Pt. 3 featuring Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, The Game, Hell Rell, Juice, Jay Rock and Clyde Carson and will drop January 10th – the same day as his birthday.

Nu Jerzey Devil Bio:

Nu Jerzey Devil was born Anthony Torres in the South Bronx borough of New York City on January 10th. The Black Wall Street head producer and his family lived on a street called Cedar Avenue, later in his life he would move to Compton, California on Cedar Block where his arrangement with Black Wall Street began.

At the early age of four his mother and six siblings moved to their new hometown of New Jersey. The youngest of the children, Torres emulated his older brothers every move and soon caught on to their influences in hip hop.

At the age of seven Nu Jerzey Devil began rapping and by 18 he traded a friend a .45 caliber gun for DJ equipment. Jerzey soon bought himself a Dr. Rhythum beat machine and a Yamaha DJX keyboard and started his own production.

Within two years Jerzey was contacted by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins of Darkchild Productions. Rodney was quickly impressed and took Jerzey with him to Miami for a few meetings. Upon arriving back he immediately joined the Darkchild team and scored and laced the soundtrack for the 2003 Jessica Alba film Honey (Universal Pictures). From there the pair moved to Los Angeles and worked on My Baby’s Daddy (Miramax Films) starring Anthony Anderson, Eddie Griffith and Method Man.

After linking up with Phat Rat, another member of the Darkchild team, Nu Jerzey Devil was introduced to the Dr. Dre protégé, The Game. After hitting the studio they recorded "The Black Wall Street Anthem" – most notable on The Black Wall Street’s intro on their official webpage. The chemistry bubbled as the two continued recording – while in the meantime The Game was in the works with creating The Black Wall Street label. With no hesitation, Nu Jerzey Devil was the first to sign to the newly founded label.

Nu Jerzey Devil continues to produce and record with The Game along with the rest of Black Wall Street. In the meantime he continues to hit the mixtape circuit and plans to drop a solo album summer of 2008.
