Poverty is probably the single most destructive force in the world. The gap between the haves and have-nots is ever-widening, with the poor and homeless continuing to suffer the consequences of this great injustice. There are over 350,000 people living in poverty in Central Florida alone. However, something can be done. Something is being done as the nonprofit organization Rock for Hunger looks to combat the cycle of poverty through music, volunteer work, and peace in our local community.
Rock for Hunger was created last year with the inaugural Music Festival to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness in Orlando, Florida. Since then, Rock for Hunger has created projects to help end the cycle of poverty by providing meals, clothing, education, and more to the homeless, and children in poverty.
On November 10th 2007, Rock for Hunger is holding "Rock for Hunger 2: Our 2nd Annual Festival to help End Poverty." This year's event is going to be bigger than ever with two stages, one inside BackBooth and the other in the BackBooth parking lot. This year's event will feature over 20 bands, great guest speakers, and much more to raise awareness and help make a difference in our local community. All proceeds will go towards the programs for Second Harvest Food Bank and Rock for Hunger to help provide million of meals, educational opportunities, clothing, and shelter for those in need. This year's supporters and sponsors include: Create Magazine, O-Rock 105.9, The ONE Campaign, Second Harvest Food Bank, Rollett Marketing, Sign-A-Rama on Alafaya Tr., Metro Mix Orlando, Universal Studios, Axis Magazine, and many more.
