Desert Bayou is a documentary feature film about New Orleans residents that were displaced to Salt Lake City, Utah in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. This is a story that everyone needs to see to believe as it's never been told before in the media.
Director Alex LeMay asks the question, 'in a time of tragedy and great loss, why were our fellow Americans never told where they were going, and then held captive on a military base?'
The movie was produced by Percy Miller, better known as Master P, and was executive produced by Jimmy Finkl.
Master P has come a long way from the days of making urban street films and has stepped up his game to the level of producing social-issue films.
Desert Bayou is supported by the NAACP and Rev. Al Sharpton with other important figures advocating the film each day. The film recently received a proclamation from the City of New York, declaring Oct 5, 2007 Desert Bayou Day in recognition of the humanitarian cause the film takes on for the people of New Orleans.
During its premiere week in New York, Desert Bayou had the 2nd highest per-screen average gross just below The Kingdom. The film had the 6th highest per-screen average gross of all films nationwide.
This movie has the potential to take home the Oscar for best documentary at this years' Academy Awards.
'This movie is growing quickly and it should be in all theatres for everyone to see,' said Master P. 'This is the most passionate I've ever been about a film. I'm also going to reach out to my good friend Mark Cuban to get this film into all his Landmark Theatres as well as my friend Magic Johnson to get the film into all of his theatres, too.'
Proceeds from the film will go towards rebuilding minority housing in the city of New Orleans.
Hollywood Truth gives the film an 'A' rating stating, 'Desert Bayou is the best documentary since Fahrenheit 9/11. It is sure to be the most controversial movie of 2007, too. The story told through the direction of Alex LeMay is genius and well put together.'
The film is distributed through Cinema Libre Studio and is a Processing Productions movie in association with Take A Stand Films.
