Who: Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, better known as the rapper M.I.A.,
is an entertainer and visual artist. Her 2005 debut album,
"Arular," was nominated for the Mercury Prize and was a hit both
in the mainstream press and the blogosphere. M.I.A.'s music
style contains elements of grime, hip-hop, reggae, dancehall and
electro. In August, she released her second album,
"Kala," featuring the hit singles, "Boyz" and "Jimmy."
