Youngstown, Ohio – February 27, 2006 – Official results reveal that the city of Youngstown, Ohio has placed third in the nationwide "Your Block" Contest sponsored by MTV Networks MTV2 channel. The contest encouraged viewers to submit films highlighting the music and lifestyle of their city. The Youngstown, Ohio film was produced by Youngstown natives Christopher Moss, Albert Fisher, Sterling Smith, Charles Ellis and DeJuan Ellis. The film, which features local landmarks, commentary from Mayor Jay Williams and Youngstown's own rising star Rapper Suge B serving as host, was chosen by an internal committee at MTV News and MTV2 as one of only four finalists of all the entries submitted from across the nation. The finalists’ film was broadcast on www.myblock.mtv2.com for viewing and voting and also shown nationwide on the MTV2 cable television channel. The Youngstown, Ohio submission hosted by Underground Rapper Suge B received an astounding 105,211 votes. That stands as an amazing feat considering that the winning city of Hempstead, NY(Population:755,924) boasts a population nine times the size of Youngstown, Ohio (only 82,026) but only eclipsed Youngstown by approximately 11% of the total votes. Finishing third in a nationwide contest gives the citizens of Youngstown a reason to feel proud. According to Rapper Suge B “The contest provided a huge opportunity for the city. The Mayor was seen nationally speaking about 2010, and the film has also sparked a national interest in the Youngstown music scene. Youngstown’s native sons Christopher Moss and Charles Ellis are 1997 graduates of East High School and alumni of The Ohio State University, class of 2002. Albert Fisher is a 1997 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Youngstown State University alumnus. They produce a weekly video show SELF-MADE TV that airs on Time Warner Cable Ch.9 in Youngstown. Sterling Smith who assisted with the editing of the project is a 2001 graduate of Cardinal Mooney.
Youngstown’s rising star, the Rapper Suge B hosts the weekly video show SELF-MADE TV. He can also be seen performing in various venues around town. Suge B is a graduate of The Rayen School where he served as the Class President. He attended Mount Union College and Columbus State Community College.
