Tha Blast Festival Producer Robin Harrison announced today that "Images of America" African American Voices from the collection of Ex-NBA Player and Coach Darrell Walker, and a sculpture exhibition called "The Blue Collar" kicks off four weeks of commemorating urban arts and culture in Cincinnati. Tha Blast is a high-energy festival hosting several activities including art exhibitions, music and spoken word showcases, a college lecture, a DJ/Producing workshop, a teen arts project and film screenings.

The festival runs from September 15th - October 7th at several venues around Cincinnati. Hip-Hop Icon, Rapper Rakim and DJ and Producer King Britt will both receive Tha Blast Community Award for their many contributions to urban culture and Hip-Hop. "This year we are using the arts to increase awareness of important social issues that plague our community including the rise of HIV/AIDS in African American women, as well as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in two scheduled fundraiser events" said Robin L. Harrison, Festival Producer.

Jessica Holter, of the Punany Poets, presents a one-woman show called "The Head Doctor" at The Greenwich, which benefits non-profits the Minority Aids Prevention Alliance and AFACT (Artists Fighting AIDS Creatively through the Arts). The show is an intimate, audience interactive show about love and sex--by far the sexiest Punany show of all time. The goal for the show is not only to celebrate the art of lovemaking, but to also create awareness that individuals need to practice safe sex and to raise awareness of the increasing number of cases of African American women contracting HIV/AIDS.

In addition, The Katrina Collaboration benefits from an event called the "The Breaking Point" at the Contemporary Arts Center. The evening features a photo installation of Hurricane Katrina by photographers from New York and New Orleans, a spoken word presentation by local group The Artistic Order of 144K and nationally acclaimed DJ/Producer King Britt's live performance of his remix of the songs and documentary of New Orleans's folk artist Sister Gertrude Morgan.

The mission of Tha Blast is to create an ongoing social/cultural experience that explores the many facets of urban culture and the arts, while providing education to Cincinnati's underserved communities. "Since the Tha Blast launched in 2003, the festival has always been a platform for local artists to showcase their talents as well as to provide the youth with the opportunity to hear voices of their culture," explains Cedric Cox, Assistant Event Manager and Curator. This year, Cox, along with Poet Pamela Myricks present a five-week educational art collage and creative writing project called "Art Shapes Us" for teen artists. The other educational components include a lecture for students and staff with Sam Gilliam at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and a DJ/Producer Workshop by King Britt and DJ 7UP at The University of Cincinnati MainStreet.

The events conclude at The Greenwich with "Tha Blast Urban Explosion." This showcase provides a creative outlet for established and upcoming artists to coexist in an evening that includes the exhibition "In-Stereo," dealing with stereotypes in pop culture, the film screening of La Fabri-K: The Cuban Hip-Hop Factory, a Lisandro Perez-Rey's documentary that follows the Cuban hip-hop collective, and The BREW, a Red Reign Entertainment showcase from Atlanta featuring hip-hop group MSEIZE and DJ Fudge, New York's Neo-Soul Vocalist St. Juste, and Cincinnati's own DJ Pillo.

About This Year's Co-winners of Tha Blast Community Award
Rakim (full name Rakim Allah, born William Michael Griffin) is an African-American rapper. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential rappers in hip-hop history, and for having revolutionized hip-hop lyricism with his complex flow, elaborate metaphors, and rapid delivery. In 1985, he met Queens DJ Eric B., whose intricately constructed soundscapes made an excellent match for Rakim's more cerebral presence on the mic. With the release of their debut single "Eric B. Is President" in 1986, Eric B. and Rakim became a sensation in the hip-hop community, and their reputation grew as they issued classic tracks like "I Ain't No Joke" and "Paid in Full."

King Britt is a pioneer of all things soulful, rhythmically textured, and melodically provocative. He is a producer, songwriter, remix producer, as well as a composer and film music scorer. 2006 MTV Video Music Awards Celebrates an Eclectic Group of Music Across More Screens Than Ever Before

Host Jack Black Brings The Thunder

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Radio City Music Hall transformed into Video City Music Hall with imagery projected all over the walls of the theater throughout the entire night. With a dramatic kick off atop the observation deck of The Top of the Rock, Jay-Z welcomed the VMAs back to New York City. The biggest night in music opened with Justin Timberlake's sizzling performance of his hit single, "SexyBack." Host Jack Black, dressed as the bad Moonman and Elvis, followed with a comical rock performance featuring Tenacious D band mate Kyle Glass that brought the thunder to the audience, setting the stage for a spectacular musical extravaganza.

For the first time ever, VMA viewers were able to vote on all general awards categories reflecting and celebrating the most eclectic group of artists today. Panic! at the Disco nabbed "Best Video of the Year" for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." Avenged Sevenfold won "Best New Artist Video" for their music video "Bat Country." Beyonce took home a Moon Man for "Best R&B Video" for her music video "Check on It." A.F.I. grabbed a Moon Man with "Miss Murder" winning for "Best Rock Video." Pink hauled in "Best Pop Video" for her music video "Stupid Girls."

While the VMAs aired live on MTV, MTV.com streamed "VMA Live: Backstage Uncensored," an unprecedented live simultaneous view of ALL the action behind the scenes and backstage that viewers have never gotten to see. Fans followed talent such as Ludacris, OK Go, and T.I. as they traveled from dressing rooms to the stage for their performances. In addition to the television and broadband experiences, MTV Mobile offered updates and recaps of the VMAs across all wireless carriers. The VMAs were also celebrated across all of MTV's platforms including MTV2, mtvU, MHD, MTV World, and Urge.

The end of the summer bash was jam packed with memorable performances. Shakira, along with Wyclef Jean, performed a jaw dropping and hip-shaking "Bollywood" rendition of "Hips Don't Lie." Ludacris and Pharell, joined by the sultry Pussycat Dolls, got the audience out of their seats with an energetic performance of "Money Maker." For the first and only time, OK Go performed their treadmill dance live on stage reaching their target heart rate and impressing all with their physical prowess. The All-American Rejects blew the roof off the house with a rocking rendition of their song "Move Along," as thousands of kids surrounded them on stage and were projected on the walls of the house. The night continued with Beyonce's highflying performance of "Ring the Alarm," as she descended 65 feet to the stage from the ceiling in a flowing coat and ending her performance rising 20 feet into the air above the crowd. T.I. joined by Young Dro and a chorus of children performed a medley of his hits "Shoulder Lean" and "What You Know." Panic! at the Disco kept the energy up with their performance of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," visually inspired by Tim Burton with Victorian influences. Christina Aguilera performed a heart-wrenching rendition of her ballad "Hurt" with Linda Perry accompanying her on the piano. The show came to a climatic end when Axl Rose introduced The Killers' debut performance of their new single "When You Were Young."

The Raconteurs kept the flow going the entire evening as they provided the live musical accompaniment to the show and were joined by rock legend Lou Reed in a surprise appearance, as well as Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top who performed at the very first VMAs.

Lil' Kim entering the stage in an orange prison suit and declaring
herself free.

Sarah Silverman taking good natured jabs at everyone from Lance Bass to
Paris Hilton. Silverman had the audience laughing while she left
celebrities guessing who was going to be her next target of sarcasm.

In a self-deprecating taped moment, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
earned some laughs when they announced the winner for Best R&B Video.

The tone turned more serious when Queen Latifah introduced former Vice President Al Gore to the stage. In the spirit of "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore brought a message of urgent importance concerning the world community to the VMA audience. In a unique and groundbreaking moment, he projected the plight of the environment onto the actual walls of the theater. To highlight that caring about the environment is the new norm, MTV unveiled new Break the Addiction PSAs during the MTV Video Music Awards. The spots' approach is that if you're not actively combating global warming every day, you're behind the times. They heralded "There's a new PC out there - EC (Environmentally Correct)." Break the Addiction is MTV's year-long campaign and 12-step program, launched on Earth Day 2006, to educate and empower young people to make daily choices that improve their life and simultaneously curb the impact of global warming and preserve our environment.

Kanye West presented groundbreaking music video director Hype Williams with a Video Vanguard Award in recognition of his continuous contribution to the music video medium. Hip-hop artists Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes, the stars of Williams' most celebrated work, also took the stage to pay tribute to Williams with first time performances of "Supa Dupa Fly," and "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See."

The star studded show also included appearances by Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Chris Brown, Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars, Shaun White, Ne-Yo, the cast of Jackass Number 2, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Lil Jon, Axl Rose, Diddy, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, The Rock, Nicole Richie, Abigail Breslin, Paris Hilton, and Nick Lachey.

New York – On the fifth anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, thousands of musicians will fill the skies across the country and the world with music as part of the Fifth Annual September Concert, a program launched in 2002 to bring communities together, to reaffirm our hope for peace and to celebrate life and our universal humanity. Veronica Kelly, Project Coordinator of the September Concert, announced that musicians who are performing will pause at 2 p.m./ EST for a sing-along of this year’s anthem of hope and peace, “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles.  
 
“We are so pleased to announce this expansion of The September Concert to cities across the country and around the world,” said Haruko Smith, president, The September Concert.  “We are deeply gratified by the enthusiasm people around the world have had for the project.  Everyone understands the universal language of music.  Our goal is to use the power of music to spread the message of peace throughout the world, and our expansion signals that we are definitely accomplishing that.”

Host Tyler Perry, whose screenplay for Diary of a Mad Black Woman was honored last year in the Outstanding Achievement in Writing category, emerged from the poverty-stricken streets of New Orleans in a remarkable rags-to- riches story. His younger days were troubled, and he suffered from endless abuse from his father. In 1992, inspired by Oprah to write it down, he wrote a series of letters to himself in an effort to find a catharsis for his own childhood pain. Those same letters would eventually evolve to become Perry's first stage production, the hit musical I Know I've Been Changed.

Perry followed that production with Woman, Thou Art Loosed and Behind Closed Doors, both collaborations with Bishop T.D. Jakes. In 2000, he wrote I Can Do Bad All By Myself and introduced 68-year-old Mable "Madea" Simmons, making her a household name across the country. He reprised the character in Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Family Reunion and Class Reunion. In 2004, he wrote and produced Madea's Christmas Play for Trinity Broadcasting Network, netting huge ratings.

Perry defied the odds in 2005 when the film version of Diary of a Mad Black Woman opened as the #1 movie in America. He followed it in 2006 with equally successful film Madea's Family Reunion, as well as the stage production Madea Goes to Jail, which sold out for every performance.

Perry continued to set new heights for African-Americans in the entertainment industry this year with the debut of his syndicated comedy series House of Payne, which has scored huge ratings during its ground- breaking test run this summer.

Southern Cal, Get Ready to Shake, Rattle and Blow! Hip Hop Church America is Set to Rattle the Famed Crystal Cathedral on October 21

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 2006--Southern California, forget those stuffy church services that have kept you apart from God way too long.
