The streets could only hold out for so long, when an artist is making noise in the right places to get seen by the right people, a fulfilled destiny is inevitable. Lost City Records is proud to announce that Big Lou aka the Spanish Frank White has just signed to DJ Kay Slay’s StreetSweepers Entertainment. In a similar fashion as Papoose, Kay Slay has seen Big Lou make his mark on the hip hop game in 2006. With numerous Mixtapes appearances and releases, including ‘Resurrecting The Dead’ in which Kay Slay hosts for Big Lou and Bedtyme357′s ‘Hate Money PT 5 Hosted by Jae Millz’ , the smashing of shows across NYC and Philly such as 721 Productions, Faces In The Crowd and iStandard, as well as the rumbling of his explosive street single ‘Taking Over’, is just what Big Lou Plans to do.
As stated on HipHopGame.com
Big Lou of Lost City Records recently signed with DJ Kay Slay’s Streetsweepers Entertainment. The Camden, NJ rapper was discovered by Kay Slay through a series of showcases.
"We were doing all the showcases we could, no matter how small it was," Big Lou’s manager Frank Urban explained to HipHopGame.
At the 721 Productions Showcase at City Night Club, put on by Mecca, Big Lou was the eleventh performer out of 22. Big Lou’s performance excited DJ Kay Slay so much that he offered $1000 to any rapper in the building who thought they were better than Big Lou.
"He definitely left an impression that day," Urban said.
Big Lou would run into Kay Slay again at another 721 Productions Showcase at Club 2686 in Long Island. After the second showcase seeing Big Lou, Kay Slay gave Big Lou his information and told Lou to come by his studio and the station sometime. Nothing ever materialized from that, but that’s not the end of the story.
Big Lou would run into DJ Kay Slay again for a third time at a showcase at Club 2686 in Long Island. Big Lou, who was opening up for Remy Ma knew Kay Slay would be at the showcase, so he came out with an a capella bigging up Kay Slay and thanking him for his support.
The fourth time seeing Kay Slay proved to be the charm for Big Lou. The showcase was another 721 Productions Showcase, this time in Greenwich. Big Lou put on what his manager called an "incredible performance," despite the fact that his stage CD was malfunctioning. Urban believes Big Lou’s ability to stay cool under pressure factored into Kay Slay’s decision to sign Big Lou.
"I really think that Big Lou is the next guy," Kay Slay told Big Lou and Frank Urban after the showcase. Three days later, a contract was in the mail.
"He is hip-hop to the fullest," DJ Kay Slay told HipHopGame of his decision to sign Big Lou. "He has the ability to change styles and his stage performance made signing him a no-brainer."
"It’s real being around Slay," Big Lou told HipHopGame. "I know it’s going to be real, which is what I’m about. It’s great to be surrounded by real hip-hop and I’m definitely excited being on Street Sweepers. I feel like I’m part of a dynasty being built with Papoose and Vein."
When asked if he feels any pressure being on the same label as Papoose, Big Lou responds, "Papoose is nice and it’s great to be around him. I don’t really feel any pressure being on the same team. I would rather be on the same roster with someone who’s great than someone who’s ass. The challenge of being on the same label as Papoose motivates me even more."
Big Lou is currently pushing a mixtape entitled Resurrecting the Dead, hosted by the Drama King himself.
Kay Slay’s also got Lou in the studio, as he is sending him beats for his next mixtape, which should be released soon.
