Hip-Hop for Hope: NOLA 2006 [Updated Location]

November 12th, 2006
On this Thursday, November 16th, 2006, a coalition of students, in partnership with organizations at Tulane University and the Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School for Science and Technology, will host a unique event called “Hip-Hop for Hope.” The goal of this event is to raise money to support educational programming at MLK Jr. (reopening in the 9th Ward in 2007) and to raise awareness about two key community issues, Education and HIV/AIDS. MLK reopened September 19, 2006 and serves 368 children from throughout Greater New Orleans. With your help, Hip-Hop for Hope can both contribute to the revitalization effort underway in New Orleans by bringing people from throughout the city together for an afternoon of fun and festivity and an evening of music appreciation. Beginning at 3:30 PM, Hip-Hop for Hope will start off with a block-party ; a concert at Tipitina’s will follow, beginning at 7:00PM. The “Block-Party,”free of charge and open to people of all ages, has been relocated to the Sav-A-Center parking lot across the corner from Tipitina’s on Tchopitoulous and Napoleon. The volunteer staff organizing Hip-Hop for Hope will be selling concert tickets (ON SALE: $5), T-shirts and DVDs of the evenings events, via a production company run by Loyola University students; all of the proceeds will be going to the MLK JR. Charter School.

The doors at Tipitina’s will open at 6, with a concert beginning at 7pm with the Soul Rebel Brass Band. The concert will feature other performances by local hip-hop artists, such as Baby Boy da Prince, J-Dubble, Truth Universal, KnowOne, SoapBox, the Able Chris, Nomadic Souls, the Zoo, the Villa, SpellBindarz, Outlaw Nation, Jimi Clever, the Truth Brass Band, Bamboula 2000 and others. Look for guest appearances by various community leaders, and other local entertainers throughout the night. All are invited to come participate in what will surely be an extraordinary experience and a positive beacon of hope for the greater New Orleans community.
