Goldmark Artists Frost, Scoop Deville A.K.A. Platinum Child and Chedda Boy Head on Tour

September 29, 2006 to October 21, 2006 from Las Vegas to Beverly Hills

September 28, 2006
NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES & VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Goldmark Industries, Inc. (Pink Sheets:GDKI), is excited to announce that Frost will be officially on tour between September 29th and October 21st, 2006. From Las Vegas, to San Antonio to Beverly Hills, the “Pioneer of Latin Hip Hop” will be spreading the word on Goldmark, while performing his undeniable hit tracks. Opening for Frost, will be newly signed Hip-Hop artists Scoop DeVille, aka Platinum Child, and Chedda Boy.

The Rainbow Bar and Grill, Las Vegas, home of Frost’s first show, has hosted a massive range of major celebrities such as Quentin Tarantino, Tommy Lee, Queen, Robert Plant, The Black Eyed Peas, Sum 41, Korn, Velvet Revolver, and Tito Ortiz, just to name a few. Ozzy Osbourne was quoted as saying, “Everybody who’s anybody has been to the Rainbow. It’s incredible...” Now Goldmark’s own legendary hip-hop artist will be added to that VIP list.

Frost is an incredibly very well respected and wildly successful performer, who is a major role model for up and coming talent. The veteran East Los Angeles rapper, who became a hip-hop icon in 1990 with his groundbreaking single "La Raza" has stepped up his game in the last decade, sharpening his lyrical skills and becoming an authority figure in the rap world. This will be evident in every one of his shows.

With his hard-hitting mix of hard-core hip-hop, smoothed out cuts, and laid-back songs, versatility is one of Frost's strengths. "The thing that keeps my name in people's mouths is that I keep reinventing myself," Frost explains. "I don't just keep on making the same music. I wanted to make bilingual hip-hop a trend. I was the forefront of one step further while still kicking vivid rhymes about the code of the streets with authenticity."

He continues, "As I see the KRS-Ones and the LL Cool J's still in it, I won't budge. A lot of people might say that I'm too old. But I don't think it's your age or how you rap. It's your rap skills that keep you in the game. As long as we make that knocking Chevy music, we're going to stay in this rap game."

Opening artists Scoop DeVille and Chedda Boy will inevitably gain from being on tour with the legend, in addition to their own successes. Scoop Deville, aka Platinum Child, has already produced tracks such as "Get It" for Linkin Park's album "Fort Minor" which was executive produced by Jay-Z, "Mamacita" for Baby Bash, and Frost's complete album entitled "Frost Angeles", all by the young age of 18. Furthermore, Chedda Boy, has appeared in the 2005 August edition of the Source Magazine for one of the hottest mixtapes in the street, and was featured in Explosive magazine as one of the premier New York artists on the rise.

Goldmark expects the tour to be a hit for the artists and the Company itself.

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New Ridaz, comprised of NB Ridaz singer/rappers Dos and Zig Zag, along with pop/dance phenomenon Angelina, are set to release their debut solo album as a group. New Ridaz, being released on Upstairs Records which is the same powerhouse Latin label that brought you famed Chicano sensation Lil’ Rob, will hit stores October 10, 2006 and is self-titled, New Ridaz.

The New Ridaz was created by three of the most promising and experienced artists to emerge from the "Latin Explosion" - street stars who scored hits separately now combining their resources for the ultimate Latin Hip Hop Soul experience. Zig Zag and Dos have garnered a fiercely loyal following with many successful radio hits including “Pretty Girl.” Angelina, with her own solid fan base, brings a history of successful international hits, most notable being, “Release Me,” which was a dance phenomenon that made its way to #7 on the Billboard Monitor Chart. “I have been making music with the guys for many years so it was a natural transition to be an official member of the group.” Angelina states, “We are all so different from each other that we compliment each others style.” With combined sales over 500,000 units, the three are now together as the New Ridaz bringing together a powerful blend of creative styles, sounds and amazing personal flavors.

“NB Ridaz and Angelina team up to create a new formidable trio. The album is packed with hits, from the ballads they are known for to a fresh new sound that I know fans will embrace fully,” says label owners John and Jo Lopez. New Ridaz will have 14 tracks that include production by hit makers Tony Talk Box, Rob Williams, Mickaël and Simes “Nasty” Carter. Nasty, who has worked with both Baby Bash and Chingo Bling, produced standout tracks for the new album including “Do You Think About Me” and “DJ Turn It Up.” Group member Zig Zag beams, “The ride never stops! Our music is the three of us at our best this time around. This one is for the fans who believed in the Ridaz movement throughout our career!” The first single, “Special Girl,” was produced by Tony Talk Box, who also put his magic on “Brand New,” and has been widely accepted by fans.

New Ridaz has just released their second single to radio titled “I.O.U.” for which a video will be shot shortly.

Forget Nellyville. Welcome To Penellyville

St. Lunatics Cohort Penelope Jones Readies Long Awaited Debut Album

(Brooklyn, NY September 27th, 2006) St. Louis emcee Penelope Jones is putting the finishing touches on her debut album. As yet untitled, the album is slated for release on November 7th on Universal Motown Records. Penelope enlisted two high-profile collaborators for the lead singles of the album; Lil Wayne on "Miss Me With That Foolishness" and Mya on the R&B tinged "No Matter What They Say"".

Although only 24 years old, Penelope's debut has been in the works for a long time. Penelope's love for hip-hop began as an adolescent as she performed gospel raps in her church. By her early teens she found herself recording her first demo with The Crew From The Lou, and later opening for the likes of 2Pac and Ice Cube, whenever they came through her town. In 2000, as Nelly was reaching superstardom, Penelope recorded "Jang-A-Lang" with the St. Lunatics and began recording for her own solo debut. Penelope's rising star was put on indefinite hold as she was convicted of conspiracy to commit drug trafficking for relaying a message of an incarcerated family member.  She began a 48-month prison sentence and found herself rethinking her plans for the music business. By the time she was released, she had earned a degree in business and become a certified personal trainer. She began working at Gold's Gym, but her love for hip-hop persisted, and she soon re-entered the recording studio. The result was a cover version (and ode to her city) of the Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie." If anyone had doubted that Penelope's star-quality would not endure her stint behind bars, their doubts were immediately dashed as the popular song ignited a bidding war for the lyrist's service.

Universal Records won the war for Penelope and sent her into the studio. The result? St Louis' best-kept (and most in-shape) secret will be revealed to hip-hop fans nationwide on November 7th.

Salon Turns to the Web to Uncover the Best New Musical Acts in America with 'Song Search,' Sponsored by Infiniti

Bands will submit songs to compete in online voting contest with a grand prize of $5,000.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2006 -- Salon.com is looking to unearth the greatest act in America -- and they're harnessing the power of the Web to find it. On Sept. 25, Salon launched a new music contest, Salon Song Search that looks to find the best song you've never heard, with the help of music artists like Rob Thomas (Matchbox Twenty), Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) as well as top music bloggers, and other surprise guest judges.

Salon is soliciting one original song from any unsigned musical act in America -- one song that will compete against thousands of others for fame, glory and the $5,000 Salon Song Search grand prize, plus two $1,000 second prizes. Any genre, any style goes. At the end of the submission period, a panel of Salon's critics and the Web's top music bloggers will whittle the hopefuls down to 10. And then the world gets to vote.

"For more than a decade, Salon.com has helped discover some of our best and brightest new writers," says Joan Walsh, Salon's editor in chief. "Now we'd like to help find the next great songwriters."

Beginning Monday, October 30, two new songs will be released every week on Salon for five weeks. Readers (and listeners) will vote online for their favorite, while celebrity judges like Thomas, Wall and other surprise guests will weigh in with their own choices. In the final week, the five winners will face each other in a victor-takes-all round of online voting, with the champion taking home the Song Search crown and the $5,000 grand prize.

To submit a song, visit the Song Search home page at http://salon.com/ent/audiofile/song_search/2006/index.html/?id=songsearch

Sponsorship for the contest is being provided by Infiniti.

YOUNG QUON, "DOIN IT... MOVIN" IN STORES OCTOBER 10th 2006

Bringing South-West Heat To The Streets... B-Storm Enterprises/Fontana UMVD Sets To Releases Its Most Promising Hip Hop Artist

(Los Angeles, CA) ... On October 10, 2006, YOUNG QUON officially takes his seat in the Hip Hop game with his solo debut release, “DOIN IT… MOVIN”, also the title of the first single produced by Don Vito (“Do It To It” Cherish), Christian Strickland helmed the video.

Young Quon born DeQuon Stovall by way of Louisiana-via-Arizona-via-Texas native, with his distinctively “south-west” sound sets fire to the airwaves with his single “Doin It … Movin’”, igniting the streets. Recording half the album in Phoenix and the other half in both Dallas and Houston’s famed Studio 7303, where A-Listers such as Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Pitbull, BUN B, George Clinton, and R&B songstress LeToya Luckett have recorded hit records; Young Quon’s solo debut album promises to have something to satisfy rap music fans and industry professionals alike. Guest appearances on the album include Houston’s own Paul Wall, the ambassador of The Bay Area E-40, and newcomer Jiggolo.

By his pre-teen years, with strong musical influences in his own family, Young Quon knew that a career in music was his future. A passion to share his gift and voice was a dream he needed to fulfill. “Growing up, I heard everything from blues – like Bobby Blue Bland – and soul to gospel. Because of my family being so much into music, I can name stuff that cats my age wouldn’t know nothing about. My mom was a great singer who just happened to never do anything with her gift.”

Radio’s KPTY Houston, KNDA Corpus Christi, WJUC Toledo, XM Satellite radio, and more, have already have begun to fuel the blaze with a new video soon to follow. Texas natives will be the first to catch Young Quon at Fontana Day at the Music Depot in Houston at the Greens Point Mall on October 7th, with a promotional tour starting in Little Rock, Dallas, Mississippi, with more cities soon to be confirmed.

Ludacris, Michael 5000 Watts, DJ Green Lantern & MixUnit.com Present

Sept 25th, 2006
The Truth Shall Set You Free... With a moniker like that, and a mixtape titled like this, you probably get what Ludacris is hinting at. With one of the most powerful mixtapes in recent history, DJ Green Lantern, Michael 5000 Watts and Ludacris team up with MixUnit.com to bring you Pre-Release Therapy: The Truth Shall Set You Free, an official MixUnit.com Collabo.
Five albums deep into the six-album deal he signed back in 2000, Christopher Bridges aka. The Multi-Million Man has helped Def Jam Records sell more than 10 million albums during his tenure. With his sixth, and possibly final, album with Def Jam right around the corner, the man that started as animated ATL radio personality Chris Lova Lova (Hot 97.5) stands on the verge of becoming the most sought-after free agent in Hiphop history.

But before Luda can cross that bridge, he'll have to drop one final record: Release Therapy. And before he can do that, he decided he must serve his fans and followers with this underground release, a mixtape titled Pre-Release Therapy, a collaboration with 'The Evil Genius' DJ Green Lantern and yours truly, MixUnit.com.
A Team Invasion / DTP / Swishahouse / MixUnit.com collaboration, Pre-Release Therapy is already being billed as a front-runner for 'Mixtape Of The Year.' Judging from the participants, it's not hard to see why.
With a little mixtape therapy session courtesy of the baddest mixtape DJ ever and the baddest screw DJ in the game; Ludacris lets it all off his chest and opens up to the fans for this monster mixtape of all-new and exclusive music.

Available at MixUnit.com, Release Therapy: The Truth Shall Set You Free is the official mixtape prelude to Luda s Release Therapy album.

National Hip Hop Political Convention (NHHPC) Chicago Event Inspires a New Generation to be Involved as the Civil Rights Generation

CHICAGO, IL - From July 20th to the 23rd the Hip Hop community and generation gathered at Northeastern Illinois University to mobilize the largest youth and young adult-led civic demonstration project in the history of the United States. The 2006 NHHPC had hundreds of young people come from all over the country to attend workshops and panels on non-violent strategies, running for electoral office, and human rights issues to cite a few. The four-day event culminated with an assembly for delegates to propose action steps for issues or concerns for the Hip Hop national agenda.

"Like the NAACP we were born into an organization that developed out of a gathering of activists from around the world, who came together to discuss the current status of a particular group of people.  The NAACP was addressing the status of Black folks in America, while the NHHPC came together to discuss the current situation of folks who make up the Hip Hop Generation." – Troy Nkrumah, National Internal Chair, NHHPC

The 2006 NHHPC was sponsored by the Black United Fund of Illinois, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Illinois African American Coalition for Prevention, The Ave Magazine, the Hip Hop Association, SEIU, the League of Young Voters Education Fund, Brothers and Sisters United Against HIV/AIDS (BASUAH), the Hip Hop Congress & the Bean Soup Times and Dorothy Brown – the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.  Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., Member of Congress, 2nd District of Illinois commented in a letter of support for the 2006 NHHPC: "We really don't have a choice to be involved or not-- we're inevitably involved.  The question is whether we are consciously engaged.  Your program and platform will surely add to that political consciousness, and for that you and your fellow delegates are to be commended."

NHHPC organizationally continued to participate and engage in civic, political, or both activities beyond the initial success from the 2004 national convention in Newark, NJ, where over 6,000 people, including 600 delegates from 20 states attended.  That historic inaugural event created the only national agenda and prioritized education, criminal justice, healthcare, economic justice and human rights as the 5-points impacting the hip hop community.  The National Black United Fund was very instrumental in the development of a new generation's shaping of their own agenda and symbolically "passing the baton" of leadership and knowledge.

The national agenda is the foundation for NHHPC members organizing state-based initiatives-–some local organizing committees in Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Georgia are actively engaging in their communities.  In Las Vegas, the committee has been successful in challenging both UNLV and the Sheriff who attempted to ban Hip Hop events.  The political pressure from the Hip Hop community discouraged the Sheriff from running for re-election and caused the University Regents to reject the Hip Hop Ban.  In New York City and Atlanta, the committees have been involved with the plights of Hurricane Katrina survivors including supporting housing, job placement & access to healthcare needs from the Bloomberg administration and FEMA.  In New Jersey, one week after the convention, an outdoor youth event featured M1 from the critically acclaimed Hip Hop duo-Dead Prez, and the NJ committee participated in the festival to encourage issue-based community education and held a voter registration drive.

Beyonce Set to Headline Nigeria's First Annual THISDAY Music Festival on October 7

Festival Performance Marks Superstar's First-Ever Trip to West Africa

NEW YORK, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Pop culture icon Beyonce will make her first-ever trip to West Africa to headline the first night of the first annual THISDAY Music Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, on October 7.

Held in celebration of Nigeria's 46th year of independence, the two-day THISDAY Music Festival will feature, on its first night: Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ciara, En Vogue and, on its second night: Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Missy Elliott, and Busta Rhymes.

"It's a great thrill to come to West Africa for the first time to celebrate Nigeria's independence," said Beyonce. "I feel blessed for this opportunity for my all-female band and me to appear on stage with some of the world's most talented artists and share the universal message of peace, hope and beauty that music brings to all of us."

Beyonce's second solo album, B'Day, recently entered the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart at #1 while her "Check On It" video took home the MTV Video Music Award for the year's Best R&B Video.

Beyonce became one of the most widely-recognized and highly-respected women in pop culture as a founding member of Destiny's Child, the top-selling female group of all time.

Over the past decade, Beyonce has earned numerous accolades including Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, World Music Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. In 2001, when Beyonce took home an ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award, she became the first African-American woman -- and the second woman ever -- to receive that honor.

Beyonce made her acting debut in 2001 in the made-for-television production "MTV's Hip Hopera: Carmen." In 2002, she co-starred as "Foxxy Cleopatra" opposite Mike Myers in "Austin Powers In Goldmember," cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for achieving the Highest Box Office Comedy Film Gross in film history. The iconic performer took home her 9th Grammy Award (for her duet with Stevie Wonder, "So Amazing") in 2006 as her then-current single--"Check On It"--topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the third week in a row; and her then-current film, "The Pink Panther," starring Steve Martin become America's #1 box office sensation. Both "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and "The Pink Panther" opened at #1 at the box office in the U.S. Beyonce's latest film project, the movie version of the hit musical "Dreamgirls," is slated for release in December 2006.

THISDAY, one of the largest Africa-owned media groups in Africa, publishes newspapers, magazines and online (www.thisdayonline.com) and hosts the biggest awards events in Africa including this year's inaugural first annual THISDAY Music Festival.

The Game Continues: The Highly Anticipated 'Doctor's Advocate' in Stores November 14th

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-platinum Geffen recording artist The Game will release his highly anticipated sophomore album, Doctor's Advocate, on November 14, 2006. The Game's 2005 debut, The Documentary, which had a number of hit singles including "Hate It Or Love It," "How We Do," "Dreams" and "Put You On The Game," sold over five million copies worldwide.

The street single for Doctor's Advocate, "It's Okay (One Blood)" featuring Junior Reid, landed at radio stations in August and has quickly generated a firestorm of interest. The song cracked Billboard's Hot 100 chart, as well as its Hip-Hop and R&B Singles charts, and was added to regular rotation on 48 radio stations nationwide in its first week, making it the number one added urban single in the country. The video for "It's Okay (One Blood)," which follows The Game on a stroll through the grittier streets of Los Angeles, is receiving heavy airplay on MTV and BET.

The first official single for Doctor's Advocate is "Let's Ride (Strip Club)," is a collaboration between The Game and producer extraordinaire Scott Storch. A video for the new single is in the works and will air in October.

"Last time around I had to shock 'em. I had to let everyone know that I was the new force bringing back the West Coast, and that no one could ignore me. This time I had one thing in mind -- greatness. I think the world will feel my hunger," said The Game, whose birth name is Jayceon Taylor.

Since the release of The Documentary, the self-proclaimed face of Los Angeles has been busy with an array of other work -- releasing a series of ferocious mixtapes that captivated the rap music world; starring alongside Lorenz Tate, Meagan Good and Tyrese Gibson in the Rogue Pictures film, Waist Deep; and releasing new styles and colors and of his Hurricane sneaker line, made by 310 Motoring, for the fall season. As the buzz for Doctor's Advocate reaches a fever pitch, and if "It's Okay (One Blood)" is any indication, Jayceon Taylor may have the game in hand.

Nokia Launches International Community of Music Connoisseurs - The Music Recommenders

David Bowie Acts as New Music 'Godfather' for Innovative Music Recommendations

Nokia Open Studio 2006, NEW YORK, September 26/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forty leading independent music stores from around the world are working with Nokia (NYSE:NOK) to create unique and customizable music recommendations. Music Recommenders brings together great new music across continents and genres, keeping music enthusiasts in touch with the latest tracks as well as helping them discover new artists.

Internationally influential independent record stores including Fat Beats (New York), Reckless (Chicago), Pure Groove (London), Hard Wax (Berlin) and Mona Records (Tokyo) will offer a personalised selection of new music across 12 genres - from Pop to Rock to Classical, Jazz and Electronic.

Every month, experts from each of the stores will bring together music from their specialist genre. No other music recommendation experience offers such an extensive combination of human insight, knowledge and expertise, coupled with global reach.

As a fanatical explorer and discoverer of music from around the world, David Bowie is taking the role of music 'godfather'. He will be contributing to Music Recommenders every month through features and podcasts, sharing his most exciting discoveries as well as appearing in a short film, shot by Wim Wenders (Buena Vista Social Club), which advocates new music and the culture of record stores around the world.

Users can freely browse the music, search for music according to recommender, genre or style, listen to music clips and read weekly updates, artist interviews, city music guides and even information on the stores and recommenders themselves. Once registered, subscribers can receive an instant playlist of 30 second samples tailored specifically to their tastes and purchase the tracks they like. Once a month, users will receive the latest recommendations and editorial features direct to their email inbox.

"We've searched around the world to find the most passionate and credible music specialists. The stores featured on Music Recommenders have the experts who are supporting and breaking new artists," commented Tommi Mustonen, Director, Multimedia, Nokia. "And we're thrilled to have David Bowie - a musical icon - sharing his own passion for what's new in music. We are able to make a wealth of knowledge, passion and foresight available on a global scale - something that has never before been attempted."

"Waking up to a new sound or new band is something that makes my day just that bit more exciting," said David Bowie. "Unfortunately, so much music goes unheard, especially things that don't bow to the mainstream. Music Recommenders help navigate the undiscovered music that is out there. I've actually been to some of the stores featured on Music Recommenders in various parts of the world, and found them to be a wonderful source for new and less traditional music."

"Perhaps the hardest thing about finding new music is finding a starting point, an entry point, somewhere to begin. Starting with record shops makes sense, because we listen to a vast amount of music and our ears are almost constantly being refined and tuned in to what is out there," said Nick Turner from Smallfish Records in London. "As an idea, Music Recommenders is excellent; since the shops are diverse, the music will be too, but in amongst it all there will be something that appeals to everyone, whatever their taste."

Music Recommenders will be available in a beta version starting in November 2006. For a full list of participating stores, please visit http://www.musicrecommenders.com.

Additional quotes:

"It's a privilege to be part of a program that allows us to share the great music around with a potentially worldwide audience. Seeing that people from all corners of the globe are picking up on our recommendations is a testament to the unifying quality of great music. This Nokia system has allowed people to hear the tracks that we're supporting, and also allowed us to hear what fellow record stores from other countries are pushing. It's a great program that is evolving into a wonderful musical community." (Simon Singleton, Pure Groove, London)

"Earwax Records is honored to be a part of the Music Recommenders. Now, independent music stores get an opportunity to express our passion for Hip Hop music across the world. It's great that Nokia are giving us an opportunity to shine some much needed light on all corners of the Hip Hop world. Don't sleep on good music - enroll in the Ear Wax hip hop academy and let us school you." (Chuck Woo, Ear Wax Records, Atlanta, USA)

SPOTRUSHAZ REPRESENT T&T HIP-HOP ON BBC 1XTRA

Local rap group, Spotrushaz will represent Trinidad and Tobago next Sunday during the fourth annual Hip Hop Weekend hosted by London-based urban radio station, BBC 1Xtra.

In 2003, the BBC's influential urban radio station, 1Xtra broadcast it's first Hip Hop Weekend. Dedicated to the culture that has taken over the globe and dominated the music industry since the late nineties, the 1Xtra Hip Hop Weekend features 60 hours of non-stop music, live events, battles, interviews, turntablism, documentaries and some of the biggest name DJs and MCs in the world.

1Xtra's 4th annual Hip Hop Weekend takes place from Friday September 29 to Monday October 2, 2006 and will feature interviews with Def Jam CEO, Jay-Z; his former adversary, Nas; Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube, P Diddy, Lil Jon and many more.

Spotrushaz will shine the light on Hip-Hop in Trinidad during a special segment entitled "Hip Hop All Over The World", which will air on Sunday, October 1st from midnight to 2 am (GMT).

"We were blessed with this wonderful opportunity to represent our nation on this global platform before a potential audience of millions," said Spotrushaz member, Nigel "BDangerous" Telesford with a grin. "So naturally, we did what we do best: we rushed the spot, represented right and got the job done ahead of schedule.

"In 2004," he explained, "one of the 1Xtra representatives saw our video for "Triniman" on Synergy TV, just before he left the country after covering Carnival and he was blown away by it. So, he tracked us down through Cordielle Street, who had done some work with them before and the rest as they say is history. We sent him the song and the video and stayed in touch: keeping him up-to-date on the moves we were making. So when the Hip Hop Weekend came around last year, he asked us to submit a synopsis of hip-hop in Trinidad, which we did… and they aired it!"

The hip-hop loving trio said they did not make a big deal about it last year because their spot was not guaranteed.

"We knew the quality of our spot was good enough to make the cut thanks to Marka and the good folks at Third Degree Studios," said TIM Starr, "but there were also spots from rappers in countries all around the world, so we didn't want to count our chickens before they hatched.

"This time around, I think we're more secure because we had a lot more current events to talk about. Last year, we gave them the history of hip-hop in Trinidad from inception. We told them about the link between Kaiso and hip-hop, as well as the contributions of early groups like Rock Crush Crew, Harambe, MC Dominators and solo MCs like Architect and Vernacular. Of course, we also told them about our personal history and what we were doing at the time."

"This year," Chromatics continued, "we spoke about more recent developments like Eclectik's success at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships, where they placed second for the second year in a row. And we spoke about local hip-hop DJ Jus Jase, who was admitted into the world-renowned Tech.Nitions DJ squad in 2003 and was featured on BET's "Rap City" with Mad Links in 2005."

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Spotrushaz will feature among twelve (12) DJs from around the world representing their Hip Hop scenes during the two hour show. The countries representing during this year's program, include: California, Kenya, Japan, Iceland, South Africa, Norway, Canada, Jordan, Netherlands, Trinidad, Nigeria and Croatia.

"Trinidad is being represented in the hip-hop industry in major ways," concluded Telesford, "so we used this opportunity to tell people all around the world about it. We also dropped the names of some of the other local MCs representing too: MCs like Von Don, Scagnatty and Nemesis and we included a powerful track from Nacha Dharma called "Sound of Da AK" that talks about the crime situation here."

Hold up. Wait a minute: isn't rap all about beef and blings? Since when are rappers giving props to other rappers? Just when we thought we had this hip-hop thing figured out…

"Contrary to popular belief and what you might see on TV," Telesford affirmed, "hip hop is about peace and love and unity. Yes, beef sells records, but you have to be established before anyone will even care about your beef. We need to establish a movement in order to support all the aspects of the culture, so that artistes and DJs and dancers can all work and support their families.

"This isn't a fad, or some American tripe that we're copying because we saw it on TV: this is a billion-dollar global industry that provides millions of people with sustainable employment. So as much as we're working hard to promote and establish our own brand, we understand that we have to unite with various players in the game to really create something that can corner the market."

With so many formulaic events plaguing the party market, Spotrushaz will offer a unique product when they host their second full-length concert and party next Friday, October 6th at U.W.I. Social Club in St Augustine.

For details, visit www.myspace.com/spotrushaz. To listen to the Hip Hop Weekend, log on to: www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra.
