Legendary comedian Rudy Ray Moore is releasing his first disc on RNB Entertainment group’s imprint The Pen, “The Best Of Rudy Ray Moore And Friends,” a collection of some of his best work. The noteworthy project will feature some of Rudy’s classic skits, along with first-time-ever-on-CD performances by other comedians in his stable, including Billie McAllister, Lady Reed, and Jerry Walker.
The iconic Moore, who is known as “The Godfather Of Rap,” has appeared in several feature films, and has served as an inspiration to a slew of hiphop and rap artists, including the late Eazy-E, Ice-T and Snoop Dogg, who enlisted Moore as guest in his 1994 music video for “Doggy Dogg World.” Snoop has stated, “Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg. And that’s for real.” Moore was a predecessor to hardcore, streetwise, black humor that would later be delivered by comedians such as Richard Pryor and Chris Rock.
The 79 year-old comedian and actor is best known for risqué party albums, which have featured characters like Petey Wheatstraw and Dolemite, a role he played in the 1974 film of the same name. Now collectors items, his original album covers featured racy photos that were banned in many parts of the country.
Moore’s raunchy comedy often landed him at odds with the censors, but his fan base was permanently secured many years ago. Moore made history as the first black artist to have two releases on the Billboard charts simultaneously. In recent years, Moore has continued his career, recording albums and performing live. Tom Cartwright and Warren Foster of RNB Entertainment Group, which is slated to release the upcoming album through its imprint, The Pen, state, “We are ecstatic about this release, which is destined to become an instant collectors item, and which will help bring Rudy a few more well-deserved props.”
The album is slated for release on August 29, 2006.
