Manchester / London / Leeds: 4 / 5 / 8 October 2006
Celebrating their 10th year anniversary, one of the world's finest independent record labels - the Peanut Butter Wolf owned Stones Throw - comes to the UK where they'll be hosting three events in October: Stones Throw Live, taking in Manchester, London and Leeds respectively.
Stones Throw Live will feature the elusive Madlib (exclusively live on the mic and drums in London; DJing in Leeds and Manchester) who’ll be joined by revered lyricist Percee P, plus founder Peanut Butter Wolf and the irrepressible J. Rocc on the decks. This stellar line up commemorates a decade in which the label has put out well over a hundred releases and will be the first time these artists have appeared together in the UK. The tour complements the recently released ‘Stones Throw: Ten Years’ compilation.
Multi-dimensional Madlib quickly rose to prominence as one of the most interesting figures in late-'90s hip-hop as a rapper, producer, and DJ. Today, Madlib is one of hip-hop's most sought-after producers, working with the likes of De La Soul, J Dilla (as Jaylib), MF DOOM (as Madvillain) and many more; remixing Jay-Z and Beastie Boys and finding time to maintain a bewildering array of alter egos (Quasimoto, Yesterdays New Quintet, The Beat Konducta etc).
Percee P is a true cult figure. He's cut records with everyone from Lord Finesse and Kool Keith to Aesop Rock & Jurassic 5. He can be heard on DJ Shadow's 'Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain'. Percee P’s debut single was 1988 – his debut album will be released in 2007! ‘Perseverance’ features Chali 2na, Prince Po, and Aesop Rock and more. The album is produced by Madlib and will be released on Stones Throw.
J.Rocc is hailed by some as the worlds best club and mixtape DJ and is part of multiple world team ITF winning DJ crew the World Famous Beat Junkies. Last but not least, Stones Throw founder, Peanut Butter Wolf set up the label in 1996 following a critically acclaimed career as an producer and DJ. These days Wolf runs the label in addition to DJing around the world.
