In addition to the VSPOT sneak peek of episode one, each episode will be available on VSPOT in its entirety for 48 hours every Wednesday following its Sunday night broadcast. Shakira and The Red Hot Chili Peppers topped the list with seven nominations each for "Hips Don't Lie" and "Dani California" respectively. Madonna's "Hung Up" and Panic! At The Disco's, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," follow with five nods while Christina Aguilera received four nods for "Ain't No Other Man." It was also announced that Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, T.I., Panic! At The Disco, Ludacris and The Killers are scheduled to perform on the big show. Star Studded Awards Show to Live On-air, Online, and on Mobile on August 31st

NEW YORK, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time ever in awards show history, MTV will expose fans to the insanity on and off the stage at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. While the VMAs are airing live on MTV, Overdrive, the network's broadband channel, will air "VMA Live: Backstage Uncensored", an unprecedented live view of the ALL the action behind the scenes and backstage viewers have never gotten to see. In addition to the television and broadband experiences, MTV Mobile on all wireless carriers will also offer updates and recaps of the VMAs within minutes. This year's multiplatform experience builds on MyVMAs 2005 where there were more than 14.7 million streams of VMA content from MTV Overdrive. The star studded awards show will air live from Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, August 31st at 8:00PM (Live ET/Tape Delayed PT).

Additional VMA programming elements on MTV Overdrive, accessible at VMA.MTV.com, will include a live simulcast of MTV News' pre-show, interviews with talent, more music, more interaction with the MTV VJs and MTV News correspondents both live during the television broadcast and on-demand after the show. VMA.MTV.com will also get viewers prepped for the biggest night in music with highlights from past VMAs, performance playlists, VMA NYC tour, Bling Report, just to mention a few of the shows. Past VMA Overdrive shows will also be featured on VOD.

During the show, viewers will be able to email photos of themselves and their VMA experience to VMA.MTV.com. A few lucky viewers' photos will be chosen to be displayed onto the large video screens onstage, as the VMAs help give a face to the viewers watching at home.

"VMA Live: Backstage Uncensored" then turns into MyVMAs beginning immediately after the show. Every performance and celebrated moments from the stage will be available on demand to our viewers. The backstage experience will also be available in case they miss any parts when it was streamed live. "MyVMAs" users will be able to customize their own VMA experience on MTV Overdrive. "MyVMAs" will allow viewers to re-live and re-mix their own VMA experience by combining their favorite moments from the star-studded night with exclusive, bonus segments, all available in an a la carte, on-demand menu. "My VMAs" puts control in the hands of music fans and allows them to experience the VMAs the way they want.

In addition, MTV2 will have a live simulcast of the VMAs. MTV2 will also feature live hits throughout the event with MTV2 VJs providing colorful commentary on everything that's going on, replays of outstanding moments and performances that are worth a second look, and forecasting upcoming performances and awards, as well as getting VMA dish from celebrities that stop by. The winner of the MTV2 Award will be presented with a Moonman during the live hits. During the show, mtvU will feature videos of nominees, performers and presenters who were once regulars on the college channel and "graduated" to MTV. During this special VMA music block from 8PM - 11PM, mtvU will go live twice an hour to college student correspondents and mtvU VJs giving updates from the show, as well calling out upcoming performances and awards. mtvU will feature several hours of college-themed VMA coverage in the run up to the show, including a special installation of "Dean's List" hosted by a VMA-nominated artist that started out on mtvU, reports from a college student serving as a VMA seat filler, and college professors using their academic powers to predict who will take home the coveted Moonmen.

Also, MTV Networks high-definition channel, MHD: Music High Definition, will have the first-ever VMA simulcast presented in HD. Physically Challenged Rapper Starts Tour

MTV Background Music Artist Stizz Aggression is starting his first tour in the mid-west.

(PRWEB) July 28, 2006 -- MTV Background music artist Stizz Aggression is getting ready to embark on his first tour. The physically challenged rapper, who was turned down by a major record label because they felt he would be difficult to market with his "handicap" will be embarking on his first tour in October, before starting work with Double Empack as a music producer when not on tour.

Stizz started his career as a DJ, then developed an interest in music production, then writing his own songs, then decided to become involved in the performance end of the business. Stizz Agression's music can be heard on MTV's Pimp My Ride, Making the Band, and other MTV programs. Stizz also sold music to Midway Games and has sold beats to other artists and other producers as well. After winning local various competitions during 2000/2001 this young entertainer has been chosen to open for various major artists such as Ludicriss, Noreaga and Cadillac Tah.

After holding a crowd with his first major performance at the New York Festival in Brooklyn, 2001, Stizz proved himself and was invited to perform shows in NY and PA as a featured entertainer for large major venues.

Between 2001-2002, Stizz was named Artist Of The Month by a local CT video and entertainment company, and, by a New Jersey television producer, DTV3.

In Jan 2004, Stizz entered an artist/management agreement with Git It Ryte Records. After a performance during a showcase in December 2004, Double Empak, then one of the in-house production companies with Def Jam, wanted to sign Stizz as one of their producers. That fell through when Double Empak was laid off in Jan 2005 by the new president of Def Jam. Double Empak manages Dame Grease. Double Empak was highly impressed with his skills as a producer, writer and performing artist.

After realizing that Stizz had the talent to excel in this industry, his management encouraged him to keep producing and performing. In the meantime, his management submitted Stizz’s music to MTV.

Stizz was informed that fifteen tracks was chosen to be featured on several MTV programs this season. Stizz's music is featured on PIMP MY RIDE, THE OSBORNS, THE NEWLYWEDS, TRIPPIN, N.E.X.T, DATE MY MOM, and MAKING THE BAND. Las Vegas Rapper, Lil' Tone, was Arrested Thursday Morning (July 20) in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Three Different Felony Charges

The 18-year-old rapper (real name: Tony Richardson) was taken into custody by the Las Vegas Police early Thursday while at home and charged with two counts each of robbery, burglary and use of a deadly weapon (which has since been dropped).

(PRWEB) July 28, 2006 -- Las Vegas rapper, Lil' Tone, was arrested Thursday morning (July 20) in Las Vegas, Nevada, on three different felony charges.

The 18-year-old rapper (real name: Tony Richardson) was taken into custody by the Las Vegas Police early Thursday while at home and charged with two counts each of robbery, burglary and use of a deadly weapon (which has since been dropped).

The rapper's label, Las Vegas-based Runnin' Madd Records, insists that the arrest is nothing but harassment by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), citing discrimination as the culprit, and even stated that Lil' Tone was working the night in question.

"I treat Lil' Tone like a little brother. I do everything I can to keep him out off the streets and in the studio," said Jayiisa, Runnin Madd CEO.

According to the label, the police have begun to discriminate against local rappers after one of their own fell victim to a unrelated shooting. In the press release, Runnin' Madd Records accuses the LVPD of "operating under martial law" and "operating much like a gang to shut down any rapper in their path."

Richardson is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, with bail set at $40,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 3.

The LVMPD was not available for comment at press time.

In related news, Lil' Tone has just released his first mixtape with the Cali Untouchable DJs' DJ Strong, titled Welcome To The Hood Of Las Vegas. Proceeds from the sales of the new mixtape will help pay for the rapper's attorney fees.

I've had some recent concerns about sp@m touting Goldmark Entertainment's stock (PINK SHEETS:GDKI) that some folks thought came from me, apparently because I reprinted two Goldmark press releases that ran on Business Wire.

Houston Rapper Wine-O Inks Deal with Universal Records

Opio Answers Fan's Burning Questions, Debuts New A Plus Track

(Brooklyn, NY- July 27, 2006) Souls of Mischief member and solo artist Opio hosts the latest edition of the Hieroglyphics Podcast. Opio whips up a playlist of some of his favorite Hiero family tracks, including Casual, O.C., and his collaboration with Pigeon John. The real sonic treat of Hierocast V is the debut of the track "Patna Please" by fellow SOM member A Plus. The track will be officially released on A Plus' forthcoming debut solo album, My Last Good Deed.

This episode marks a further evolution of the Hierocast format. Asian American Youth: America's New Trendsetters

- Research Shows Youth Generation-s Increasing Influence on U.S. Pop Culture -

LOS ANGELES, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- A new study on the cultural influence of Asian American youth released by New American Dimensions and interTrend Communications reveals that Asian American youth are increasingly generating some of the key trends in pop culture being embraced by the rest of mainstream American youth culture. According to results of the study, "Made in America: Asian American Teens and Echo Boomers," Asian American young people are likely to see themselves as trendsetters in three distinct cultural categories -- technology and gadgetry, anime and manga, and video-gaming.

Based on a fifteen-minute survey conducted with 538 Asian American teens and "echo-boomers" -- between the ages of 14 to 28 years -- the study demonstrates that today's Asian American youth demographic inhabits a wide variety of cultural worlds and is engaged in a broad spectrum of media, entertainment, and cultural activities. The research was conducted online across the country and through in-person survey intercepts administered in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York.

In the study, 62 percent of respondents were U.S.-born and 38 percent were born outside the U.S. Differences emerged between both groups in their involvement in trends within popular culture. Among the major findings identified by the study are:

* Respondents identify (1) technology/gadgetry, (2) anime/manga, and
(3) video-gaming as the top three primary areas of popular culture where
they are driving overall trends in the U.S. marketplace. Close to
80 percent of respondents identify "technology/gadgets" and
"anime/manga" as the top two areas where Asian Americans are influencing
trends, while 72 of respondents cite "video gaming" as the third major
area. Other areas Asian American youth cite a high degree of influence
is in "food and culinary arts" and the visual arts.

* Hip Hop and Alternative music are the dominant musical genres favored
among U.S.-born Asian American youth. A diverse array of musical genres
forms the listening habits of Asian youth -- but with distinct
differences according to their acculturation levels and generation.
While first-generation (born outside the U.S.) respondents preferred
"Pop/Top 40" music, second-generation Asian Americans (U.S. born)
exhibited a strong preference for Hip Hop and Alternative music. Among
the latter, sixty-two percent of respondents identify "Hip Hop/Rap" as
their favorite music genre, followed by 51 percent who favor
"Alternative / Indie" music.

* Asian American youth are more likely to identify and seek out trends
through word-of-mouth messaging than through any other media channel or
network. This is particularly true for second-generation Asian
Americans who indicate they are twice as likely as their first
generation counterparts to learn about trends via word of mouth. Among
the first-generation cohort, television holds the greatest influence in
helping them learn about new trends according to the survey.

"It's not completely surprising that Asian Americans wield a tremendous influence in areas like video-gaming and manga," states Thomas Tseng, Principal & Co-Founder of New American Dimensions, who oversaw the research study. "Anime and Manga constitute a growing $4 billion business in the U.S. and is embraced today by millions of American kids across the color spectrum. "Whereas many second-generation Hispanic kids often exhibit their pride through their language and culture, Asian American youth seem to assert their pride in how they are shaping mainstream American culture."

Four 30-second television spots featuring bobblehead characters bouncing to Hip Hop pioneer KRS-One’s track, “Steady Bounce,” begin July 31 on network, cable and online media outlets. These include target-appropriate programs on networks such as FOX, CW, UPN, ESPN, E!, MTV, Telemundo, Univision and the new AOL Action Sports Network Lat34.com.

Print advertising includes four-page magazine inserts, two-page spreads and single-page ads. They will run in music, fashion, entertainment, fitness/adventure, sports, men’s, women’s and automotive magazines, including publications such as Rolling Stone, Vibe, Elle, In Style, Entertainment Weekly, People en Espanol, Marie Claire, Latina Style, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Shape and Motor Trend.

Interactive Integration
In addition to the Jeep and Compass home pages, the TV spots will be available by searching thejeepchannel on You Tube. Advertising will appear on high profile homepages such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo and on social network sites including MySpace and Facebook.

Additionally, Jeep will use lifestyle sites tied to entertainment, fashion and music to build awareness including a Jeep Adventure Radio Channel and New Artist Contest on the Hispanic Batanga; Daily Candy; MTV.com Real World sponsorship; and taking over a pre-programmed radio station on Yahoo Music. User generated media content includes a Jeep Compass Karaoke singing avatar initiative, powered by Oddcast; a bobblehead icon generator where visitors to www.jeep.com can build their own bobblehead character to send to friends; and a Free Your Thoughts.com contest where consumers have an opportunity to create their own Jeep Compass commercial.

Seven-inch versions of the bobbleheads used in the commercials also will be available for purchase through www.jeep.com.

Other Components
TV extensions include Compass vehicle integration in MTV Real World 18 and “Uncharted,” a month-long Jeep Compass Music Tour of up-and-coming artists, which will kick off in New York in August.

Out-of-home media will reach this active, younger audience through outdoor billboards, bus shelter advertising, painted walls, building wraps and buzz marketing at beaches and clubs.

TV Spots Descriptions
The first spot, “Bounce,” uniquely demonstrates how owning Jeep Compass is a way to “keep moving” by becoming truly independent and the envy of all who see it. The driver of the Compass, a bobblehead, drives through urban streets catching the eye of many other bobbleheads admiring his new wheels. The spot closes with all the bobbleheads who envied the Compass bouncing to the music in the back of the vehicle under a mirrored ball as if they were in a dance club. The spot closes with the voice over, “It’s your life. Keep it moving. Introducing the totally new Jeep Compass, for just $15,985. It’s freedom in a whole new dimension.”

In “Gear,” the Jeep Compass drives by a street-side music store with guitars, amps and keyboards filling the windows. A little old bluesman bobblehead sits in front of the store and rocks his head as the Jeep Compass drives by. The driver and passenger look at each other and then at the back of the Compass with its seats up. In the next shot, the seats are now down and the amps are in the back of the Compass. The spot closes with our blues guy also in the back playing his guitar and bobbing his head happily. The voice over says, “The totally new Jeep Compass. With fold-flat passenger seats and a removable load floor, there’s no end to the cool stuff you can take along for the ride.”

With gas prices at an all-time high, the “Phil” spot communicates how the all-new Jeep Compass with full-time Freedom Drive I™ four-wheel drive allows consumers to “keep it moving” by getting 30 miles per gallon in their Jeep Compass. The spot opens with two bobbleheads — a male driver and female passenger — inside the Jeep Compass. They approach a gas station with a “sad looking” bobblehead attendant, but drive past it, then return to throw away a cup in the station’s trash can. The vehicle then drives away again, without buying any gas, as the attendant looks on shaking his head in disbelief. All the time, the driver’s and passenger’s heads are bobbing to the music.

The spot, “Monday,” opens with the Jeep Compass driving down the highway in the carpool lane. Cutting inside the vehicle, there are bobblehead passengers dressed in their different work clothes. The spot cuts to the driver as he turns up the stereo system as his passengers bob to the beat of the music. One by one, the passengers “fly out” of the vehicle as they get to their respective work destination with one hitting an elevator floor button to get to her destination and another landing in his office cubicle. The voice over says, “The totally new Jeep Compass. With an available 458-watt Boston Acoustics stereo…MP3 input…and available SIRIUS Satellite radio… It’s never been more fun to give your friends a lift to work.”

All of the spots close with “Jeep Compass. Freedom, in a whole new dimension.”

Annual compact SUV volume in the U.S. for the 2005 calendar year was 368,000 units, up from 297,000 units in 2004. This segment is expected to almost double to approximately 600,000 units by 2010 and almost triple to more than 814,000 units by 2016.

With Jeep Compass, the brand’s first front-wheel-drive-based SUV, Jeep is prepared to capitalize on this growing segment by providing the packaging and functionality of an SUV with the performance, handling, fuel economy (30 miles per gallon) and price of a compact car or small pickup.
